At the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021, Ledecky took gold in the 800 and 1500 free while winning silver in the 400 free at the 4×200 free relay. She was presented with the Best Women’s Athlete award at the ESPY awards ceremony, which took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The awards are presented by both the ABC and ESPN network.

In a special ceremony honoring the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Felix, Rapinoe, Masters, Chloe Kim and Aly Raisman were among the modern Olympians and Paralympians joining legends such as Billie Jean King and Lisa Leslie on stage to speak about the history of and ongoing fight for equal rights for women. It was also a good night for U.S. Olympic basketball players, as 2016 gold medalist Klay Thompson won Best Comeback Athlete after returning from nearly three years out of action with injuries to help the Golden State Warriors win an NBA championship. Paralympic stars from Tokyo were well represented in other categories, as Para triathlete Brad Snyder and Para-swimmer Jessica Long won the men’s and women’s Best Athlete with a Disability awards. He and the Warriors also won the award for Best Team. Parker won the award for Best WNBA Player after leading the Chicago Sky to a title. Snyder won gold in Tokyo in his first Paralympic triathlon after a decorated career as a swimmer, and Long won three gold medals and six total medals in Tokyo to bring her career totals to 16 gold and 29 overall. “Something that can inspire somebody else, something that can help somebody else, anything that can change our world.

Katie Ledecky is one of the big names scheduled to compete next week when the U.S. Nationals are held in Southern California.

Michael Andrew is entered in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke while Shaine Casas, who recently went 50-point in the 100 butterfly, is slated to contest that event, along with the 200 individual medley. Meanwhile, Claire Curzan is down for duty in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 100 butterfly. Ledecky passed on the 200 freestyle at the World Champs, so Nationals will provide an opportunity to put together one of the top times in the world.
