Matthijs de Ligt's Bayern Munich debut vs DC United was chaotic (GiveMeSport)

Matthijs de Ligt made his Bayern Munich debut in the 6-2 win over DC United after recently signing from Juventus.

One fan in the comment section summed up De Ligt’s performance perfectly: “So MDL came on, scored a banger, made an error leading to goal, got a yellow, and went off. All in 30 mins. Thankfully, Bayern were 5-0 up at the time thanks to Joshua Zirkzee’s 51st-minute strike.

Kahn reveals how Bayern Munich avoid complacency with summer ... (CBSSports.com)

Bayern Munich executives Herbert Hainer and Oliver Kahn hope the squad changes lead to an 11th straight Bundesliga title.

The competitive environment is very difficult for a traditional club like ours, but we compete and we can stand at the top of the clubs in Europe." "I'm very proud that we were a profitable business during the pandemic because we were very careful. The main point is to know specifically when the time is right to make changes and when to stay the course. For Hainer, the strength of the club reputation is based on two factors: "We have a claim that is 'Mia San Mia,' and it embraces our personality. "Bayern Munich have millions of fans outside Germany, especially in the United States. When we discovered that soccer became more popular, we opened an office here in 2014 to become closer to the fans in an authentic way, to show what is the real FC Bayern," Hainer said. "We had the opportunity to develop the team further for the future and my job is to look at the future. "We lost Lewandowski to FC Barcelona, one of the best strikers -- if not the best striker -- in the world," Kahn said. We took some money and invested it for the future." "One of the best strikers in the world, he played eight years with us and won everything," Hainer told CBS Sports. "It won't be easy to replace him. We have [Kingsley] Coman, we extended the contract of [Serge] Gnabry, [Jamal] Musiala, [Thomas] Muller, we have so many good players who can play in very different positions and that can be very confusing for our opponents. We tried to find a player who can lead, a player that can lead on the pitch. "I learned it as a player and now as part of the board.

There are a lot of things to develop at Bayern Munich. Football was, in the past, a very male business, a male thing. The question is, how can we engage all our fans in the world in the club? SBJ I Factor presented by Allied Sports is a monthly podcast offering interviews with sports executives who have been recipients of one of the magazine’s awards. We started analyzing all the issues of the club for six months, and after six months, we started with the implementation of our strategy. SBJ I Factor presented by Allied Sports features an interview with GMR Executive Vice President Todd Fischer. Fischer has a keen sense of the brand side of the industry, and how brands can leverage sports. I think it’s working, I think the football industry can develop. It’s growing, more and more young people are playing soccer and we already have a cooperation with FC Dallas. These cooperations are very important for us because of the scouting, so we’re working together with U.S. clubs. Kahn: The U.S. is a very interesting soccer market. Since taking over for Rummenigge, Kahn has spearheaded the club’s FC Bayern AHEAD strategic initiative, and Bayern opened its third international office -- in Bangkok -- earlier this summer. Everything was very difficult, so I could not speak to my plans, because all the clubs in Europe just tried to survive – the future was unsafe. Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn is on the road with the club this week for its first preseason U.S. tour since ’19. Plenty has changed for Bayern since that last trip stateside, with Kahn joining the club’s board in early 2020, just before the pandemic. Kahn: [After the pandemic], we wanted to adapt the club to the upcoming challenges, to adapt the club to this changing competitive environment.

Bayern Munich and Life After Lewandowski (Sports Illustrated)

The German champion isn't expecting to take any steps backward despite the dozens of goals it will need to replace with Robert Lewandowski off to Barcelona.

Lewandowski was blessed with his good health for the most part and was durable in his time at Bayern that the club rarely had to seek solutions to compensate for his absence. Instead of forcing him to play out his contract and losing him for nothing next summer, Bayern turned him the soon-to-be-34-year-old into a reported $50 million (“They buy a lot of players. You always have pressure as the manager of Bayern Munich,” Nagelsmann said. But there’s proof of practice for a more diverse attack working at the highest level, and the sense one gets after hearing Nagelsmann is that he’s both reinvigorated by the tactical task ahead of him but also aware that too much tinkering will upend his squad. That more than covers the fee Bayern spent on Mané, who showed at Liverpool he can feature centrally or out wide. With Alphonso Davies bombing forward and perhaps contributing more as a defined attacking player, there’s another wrinkle Nagelsmann can throw at opponents, and the manager also suggested that de Ligt, a strong aerial presence on set pieces, could help make up the goal deficit with an output above that of the average center back. But change can be a good thing for a club so used to churning out more of the same. Among the solutions, he suggested, could be playing with multiple strikers and focusing on more diverse movements from his stable of attacking players. We will have a good solution for the future.” “When you have a forward like Robert in your team, your style is always typical,” Nagelsmann said. Over the course of a couple of days in Washington, Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann suggested that the club was perhaps a bit predictable in its approach with Lewandowski on the field. He played in Wednesday night’s 6–2 exhibition drubbing of D.C. United at Audi Field, where he scored an unofficial first goal in Bayern red, two minutes into his run off the bench.

On Wednesday night, Bayern Munich showed up in Washington, DC, to droves of supporters. The German side appeased them with a clinical showing.

Traditionally, that privilege requires a trip all the way to Europe. However, DC United fans rest assured knowing he was watching and noting areas for improvement. For one, it was their first time going to Audi Field. So, that in itself is a great experience. Any concerns over how Mané fits in at Bayern Munich alleviated somewhat after the first five minutes of the game. Plus, fans had the opportunity to grab a picture with the Bundesliga trophy on display. Much of the atmosphere gave a glimpse into a potential pregame festivities over in Munich.

Robert Lewandowski lauds agent Pini Zahavi, says Bayern Munich ... (Bavarian Football Works)

Lewy is grateful for Zahavi's efforts to get him to Barcelona, but he also feels Bayern will cope with life without him.

Looking forward, Lewandowski knows Bayern still has the quality to make up for his loss, and he doesn’t feel they will struggle too much without him in the squad. I think those responsible at Bayern know: He’s a professional,” Lewandowski said of his agent and the role he played in the move. He’s going to miss his time spent with Bayern. “I lived in Germany for twelve years and played for Bayern Munich for eight years. Lewandowski had previously said that Real Madrid was his dream club, much to the chagrin of a lot of Bayern fans after he ultimately landed at Barcelona. For him, he said that’s he’s always wanted to play in the Spanish league and didn’t want to look back on his career and ten years’ time having regretted not taking the chance to do so when it was there for the taking. Pini is not selfish, he only has one thing on his mind: the well-being of his players and clients. Regardless of the nature in which Robert Lewandowski left Bayern Munich for Barcelona, he leaves both a club and Bundesliga legend, there’s no argument there.
