NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! Jackson Holliday and Druw Jones made history on Sunday night when the two baseball players were selected Nos. 1 and ...

"We're probably almost exactly the same," he said. "I remember being in the clubhouse ever since he got to St Louis," he said. Jones played at Wesleyan High School in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. He hit .570 with 13 home runs, 39 RBIs and had 32 stolen bases this year. Holliday also joined Ken Griffey Jr. as the only sons of former Major Leaguers selected No. 1 overall. The Baltimore Orioles took high school shortstop Holliday with the No. 1 overall pick. He is the son of Andruw Jones, a 10-time Gold Glove winner and five-time All-Star who hit 51 home runs in 2005.

MLB draft grades: Arizona Diamondbacks lauded for Druw Jones ... (AZCentral.com)

The Arizona Diamondbacks picked Druw Jones with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft on Sunday. MLB writers really liked the selection.

He could be the next Pete Alonso or another in a long line of college sluggers with a similar profile who failed to make the leap to pro ball." Joel Reuter writes: "Landon Sims was one of the best relievers in the country in 2021, nailing down 13 saves while going 5-0 with a 1.44 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 100 strikeouts in 56.1 innings. Jones might end up losing a little speed as a result, but he's believed to have the instincts and innate feel for the position that should enable his game to remain lush with secondary value. Mark Powell writes: "Jones is ranked the top player in this draft class by several databases, and for good reason. Jones had the highest ceiling of any player available at this point." He has plenty of raw power and his speed is among the best in the high-school class. Indeed, he has the kind of projectable frame and handspeed that should allow him to add muscle and power as he matures. Joel Reuter writes: "Druw Jones does everything well with ample projection left in numerous facets of his game, most notably his power potential with room to grow into his 6'4", 180-pound frame. While his hit tool isn't as refined as Holliday's, the rest of the package in center field is more explosive. He was the preferred choice of the industry sources who spoke to CBS Sports, too. The Diamondbacks, then, have to be pleased to land him at No. 2. Most prospect lists had him as the top pick in the class.

2022 MLB Draft: Druw Jones, son of All-Star Andruw Jones, goes No ... (CBS sports.com)

Jones, the son of former Braves outfielder Andruw Jones, was held as the top prospect in the class.

That's a departure from 2020, when the Diamondbacks chose a college right-hander in Duke's Bryce Jarvis. The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Georgia prep outfielder Druw Jones with the second pick in Major League Baseball's 2022 amateur draft on Sunday night. There's legitimate All-Star potential here, and he's worthy of the No. 1 pick, even if he ends up going No. 2 or No. 3 instead because of theOrioles' financial strategy.

It should be noted that Cole was the last No. 1 pick before MLB instituted slotting. The largest signing bonus awarded to a drafted player during the capped era is the $8.4 million Spencer Torkelson received from the Detroit Tigers in 2020. You can keep tabs on every team's pick by checking out our handy-dandy draft tracker. After that, teams will have until 5 p.m. on August 1 to sign their picks. (The highest signing bonus in last year's draft was the $7.92 million awarded to Jack Leiter.) Jones, a prep outfielder from Georgia and the son of borderline Hall-of-Famer Andruw Jones, was chosen No. 2 by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The slot value of that pick is $8.19 million.

With the swipe of a selection in Sunday's 2022 Major League Baseball Draft, the future outfield of the Arizona Diamondbacks suddenly took shape.

Along the way, Jones was named Gatorade’s Georgia’s high school player of the year. Part of his resume was leading Wesleyan of Norcross to the Georgia Class A private school state title. “I try and hit everything up the middle,” he said. “I play a similar game as my dad,” Druw said during a zoom with the Arizona media late Sunday night. In that time, he hit 434 career home runs, batted a career .254, and knocked in 1,289 runs. Outfielder Druw Jones is going to start his professional career with the Arizona Diamondbacks after being selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 ...

"While Jones' right-handed swing is still somewhat of a work in progress, he understands it well, shows the ability to make adjustments and does damage against quality pitching. The Diamondbacks clearly have confidence they will be able to lure him away from college based on drafting him at this spot. He already has plenty of bat speed and drives balls to the gaps, and as he fills out his 6'4" frame he should develop plus power. He will eventually join them in the big leagues as the Diamondbacks look to load up in an attempt to build a consistently dominant team capable of competing with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants in the National League West. The Athletic's Keith Law ranked Arizona's system No. 3 overall coming into the season, with one scout describing the group as not having "a great top 10, but it has one of the best top 50s of any other team in baseball." Sons of former major league All-Stars became the top two picks in Sunday's draft — just not in the order that many expected.

But Holliday now joins a rebuilding Baltimore organization that recently promoted former No. 1 pick Adley Rutschmann to the big leagues and still boasts two of the top five prospects in the game, per MLB.com. He became only the second son of a former major leaguer to be drafted with the top pick — joining Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. Both are expected to receive more than $8 million in signing bonuses, per The Post’s Jon Heyman.
