Genoa, Nev. — Seven people were rescued from a sinking yellow and white boat by Samaritans about a half mile off Zephyr Cove Beach around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Everyone was wearing life vests and Tahoe Douglas firefighters said no one was hurt. I was down at the Seeman Pond on Wednesday in time to see someone pull a fish out of the water from the dock. The Stateline Jail was evacuated after a sump pump at the bottom of the elevator shaft decided to burn up and put smoke in the building, setting off the fire alarm around 2:30 p.m. Everyone was evacuated from the building safely and there’s no report that any inmates wandered off in the excitement. The boat is on the bottom of the Lake and the U.S. Coast Guard is investigating.
