Rangers Sign Vincent Trocheck to a Seven-Year Deal (The Hockey News)

The New York Rangers have signed forward Vincent Trocheck to help bolster the team's offensive core.

With Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider and Alexis Lafreniere, the team already has some impressive offensive options up front, so adding Trocheck – especially in Andrew Copp's departure – is a big get. Trocheck has broken the 50-point barrier four times in his career, highlighted by his 31-goal, 75-point season in 2017-18. Rangers Sign Vincent Trocheck to a Seven-Year Deal

The Rangers are expected to sign Hurricanes center Vincent Trocheck when the NHL free agency window opens on Wednesday at noon.

His best campaign was when he posted 31 goals and 44 assists for 75 points in 2017-18. The 5-foot-10, 183-pounder played parts of the first seven seasons of his NHL career in Florida, where he scored 111 goals and dished 171 assists in 420 games. Additionally, and notably, Trocheck is a career 52.1 percent faceoff winner.

He led the Hurricanes with six postseason goals, and he finished with 31 shots on net in 14 games, averaging 18:21 time on ice along the way. He graduated from 17 goals in 2020-21 to 21 last season, and although his career high in points (75) is still way back in 2017-18 on a developing Florida Panthers team, it's his credentials from Carolina that made him among the more appealing players available this summer. But Trocheck, who anchored the second line from his center position, was not to blame.

The Rangers need cap flexibility going forward and if Trocheck has a full no move clause this will be a problematic contract. Trocheck has been a target for the Rangers dating back several years. For his career, Trocheck is 52.1in between the dots.

Report: Rangers Agree To Terms With Vincent Trocheck (Blueshirt Banter)

After spending parts of three seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes, Trocheck has opted to stay in the Metropolitan Division and sign with the Rangers.

Of course, the seven-year term is part of this contract that is creating a lot of discussion. Trocheck posted a 20-31-51 stat line in 81 games with Carolina during the 2021-22 campaign, and followed that up with a 5-5-10 stat line in 14 playoff games. The Blueshirts reportedly inked former Carolina Hurricanes’ center Vincent Trocheck to a deal in the opening hours of free agency.

NY Rangers make big splash by signing Vincent Trocheck (Bluelinestation.com)

The NY Rangers signed center Vincent Trocheck for 7 years and $39 million in the NHL free agency period, filling the biggest hole on their roster.

That means he will have to remain with the Rangers most of the season. The only issue with this deal is the term though there is no indication that there are any kind of no movement or no-trade clauses in the contract. Speaking of Copp, he signed with the Detroit Red Wings for $28.125 million and five years at an AAV of $5.625 million. While Copp is one year younger, it’s also very possible that the Michigan native took a discount to play for the Red Wings. In that case, his close relationship with childhood teammate Jacob Trouba was a bit exaggerated. In reality, it’s not out of the question to say that he is an upgrade on Ryan Strome and very similar to Andrew Copp. In the regular season, he had 21 goals and 51 points in 81 games with a 54.6% winning percentage on draws and an excellent 55.8% Corsi For rating.

Vincent Trocheck drawn to Rangers by chance to play alongside ... (New York Post)

The Rangers had a lot of selling points when it came to free-agent center Vincent Trocheck.

“The opportunity to play with guys like Mika [Zibanejad], [Chris Kreider], Panarin. … It’s kind of been a rivalry of mine almost. Trocheck, who turned 29 earlier this week, is a consistent point producer who has some snarl to his game, which the Rangers saw firsthand during their second-round series against Carolina in the 2021-22 playoffs. Considering his versatility was another enticing factor, Trocheck is expected to contribute on special teams. “The chance to play with [Panarin] is something that everyone would dream of. The fact that the deal’s average annual value came out to $5.625 million certainly helped as well. For starters, it was an opportunity to reunite with head coach Gerard Gallant, under whom Trocheck blossomed during their three seasons together with the Panthers from 2014-17.

NY Rangers turn to Vincent Trocheck at center: What does it mean ... (The Journal News / Lohud.com)

The New York Rangers were active during the first day of NHL free agency.

"Not just the cap, but we do have a lot of wingers." If we add top forward prospects Will Cuylle and Brennan Othmann to the roster, the Rangers will have 13 players under contract for 2023-24 with $17.85 million in cap space to fill the remaining nine or 10 spots. They nabbed the center they wanted and their 2022-23 roster is nearly complete. That will have to stretch between Chytil, Lafrenière and Miller, who will top the list of young players with expiring contracts, as well any other voids that need to be filled. But Drury said his preference was to make the trade to clear the full $2.5 million and avoid future penalties. And he has a good track record on faceoffs − an area of weakness for the Rangers − with a 54.6% win rate last season. "We looked at a lot of different players, a lot of different options," Drury said. The Rangers also inked Louis Domingue to a two-year, $1.5 million contract for added goalie insurance. His age, his experience, the contract − and he’s certainly had some good moments at the Garden." "The chance to play with (Panarin) is something that everyone would dream of," Trocheck said. That left him examining the next tier for a pivot who could feasibly play on their second line without breaking the bank. "It seemed like it went pretty quick," the 29-year-old said after inking a new deal that will pay him an average annual value of $5.625 million.
