The Jazz are now showing a willingness to listen to trade offers for All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
"We fell short, so we need to recalibrate and try to go and open up the next window," Zanik said. Ainge and Zanik agreed with Gobert's assessment after he was traded to Minnesota that the win-now window in Utah had closed. The organization has undergone major changes in the wake of this year's first-round exit against the Dallas Mavericks, including the resignation of head coach Quin Snyder, the hiring of Will Hardy to replace him and trades of Gobert and starting forward Royce O'Neale. "I'm not trying to be cryptic or anything else, but Donovan is on our roster and he's a very, very important part of what we're trying to do. Mitchell, 25, has averaged 23.9 points and 4.5 assists per game during his five-year career with the Jazz, and he has been an All-Star each of the past three seasons. "Change is inevitable in the NBA," Zanik said.
The Jazz are no longer turning away trade offers for their All-Star.
Eventually, the Pelicans are probably going to push their chips in on a third star next to Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. It just probably won't be Mitchell. The Heat don't own any external first-round picks, and they owe one of their own in 2025 to the Oklahoma City Thunder. As it stands, they can send the Jazz two first-round picks, three swaps and 2022 first-round selection Nikola Jovic. If they get a bit creative in the language of the picks, they could send the Jazz a third, but that strategy isn't without risks. Unless Mitchell expresses significant interest in joining the Raptors, Barnes is simply too valuable to the hope that Mitchell is excited to be a Raptor and can lead you to a championship. Still, if they were going to give up Barnes for anything, a 25-year-old All-Star would probably be among their first choices. Here's the scenario: The Nets trade Kevin Durant to a team capable of furnishing them with both draft picks and high-level veterans (let's say the Toronto Raptors due to their endless supply of wings). They then turn around and flip Simmons elsewhere for draft picks, and as expected, trade Kyrie Irving to the Lakers for yet more draft capital. But the fundamental question here is the same as the one facing Toronto in regards to Durant: Will the Raptors offer Scottie Barnes? The answer is probably no. Would Barrett be a deal-breaker for Utah? Probably not, especially in light of the limitations facing other suitors here. In Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin and Quentin Grimes, they have a cadre of interesting youngsters for Utah to take a chance on. Once it became clear the Jazz in their previous construction were never going to win a championship, a full-scale reboot involving trades of both Mitchell and Gobert has felt inevitable. He's either all-in on winning a championship -- as he was when he swapped all of the Boston Celtics' youth for Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in the summer of 2007 -- or he's all the way out. He isn't going to want to make a deal that keeps the Jazz somewhat competitive. Mitchell grew up in nearby Connecticut. His father worked for the New York Mets. The interest here is almost certainly mutual.
The Knicks and their fans can dream big: Donovan Mitchell could be had for the right offer to the Jazz.
That said, there is a difference-maker that appears to be available, an All-Star with ties to the franchise. But the Knicks may not have this year for those players to prove themselves and improve their value. And a major hole would be created on the wing. “I don’t know if they have enough if Barrett’s not involved for a top-15 player [like Mitchell],” former Nets executive and ESPN analyst Bobby Marks recently told The Post. “It could change. In the past, Michell has praised Rose — one of his agents before joining the Knicks — as the right man to lead his favorite team growing up. The Jazz, in the process of remaking their team after a disappointing first-round playoff exit, are listening to overtures for the star guard from Elmsford, N.Y., ESPN reported.
Given the return they got for Gobert this offseason, the Jazz could definitely expect to see an even bigger return in a trade involving Donovan Mitchell. Could ...
The idea of bringing Donovan Mitchell to South Beach is something the Heat have dreamed about for months now. For years, Knicks team president Leon Rose was an agent for CAA and still has a lot of connections within the agency to this day. Both players would be perfect assets for Utah to bring back in a trade involving Donovan Mitchell and getting Tobias Harris is not a bad addition either for the time being, even if his contract is not too favorable. Since the Jazz lost in the first-round of the playoffs, Miami has been silently doing their homework on this very situation and coming up with some plans for if Mitchell is to actually be on the move. If there is one team that could pull off a trade for Donovan Mitchell tomorrow, it would be the New York Knicks not only because they have the moveable cap space to bring in his max contract, but because the Knicks have been linked to Mitchell for a while. If the Miami Heat are truly going to go after Donovan Mitchell, they will have to rally at least one other team as well in order to get the draft compensation that the Jazz would want for Donovan Mitchell.
The departure of head coach Quin Snyder and trade of Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves initiated an imminent teardown and rebuild in Utah.

The Utah Jazz are beginning to warm to outside interest in star guard Donovan Mitchell, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
If I’m the Knicks I’m not offering RJ Barrett in a Donovan Mitchell deal.
Up to eight firsts. The Gobert trade seemed to come together rather quickly. But I’m daring someone to outbid me before I give up Barrett. His ascent next to Mitchell would be their upside. If a retool wasn't going to dramatically raise the team's ceiling, then it's time to rebuild. #Knicks fans would you move Barrett to land Mitchell? Doubt team would, but they probably can’t get him otherwise. Mitchell is a native of Elmsford, New York, so a move to the Knicks would put him closer to home.
The Jazz are going to trade Donovan Mitchell, the question becomes where? The Knicks and Heat are considered the early frontrunners but other teams want in.
The Jazz will ask for the same thing that reportedly has stalled out Durant to the Raptors talk — Utah will want Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes. If Masi Ujiri is unwilling to throw Barnes in a Durant trade, there is zero chance he would do it for Mitchell, but that will be the ask. Another team linked to Mitchell for a long time and who reportedly has expressed interest is the Heat. This is reportedly a destination Mitchell would like, as well, but the Heat offer would be more about players than picks. This is the longest shot on the board, but if there’s a mega-trade for a star happening you know Daryl Morey is calling. But the Knicks are the team that has the assets to make this a conversation Mitchell was born in Westchester County and the Knicks want to bring him home. Would these teams strip down their roster so far it would just be Mitchell against the world, a setup he wants to avoid?
Utah is taking calls for its 25-year-old star, and he'd have plenty of suitors.
- McDonald: "Rory McIlroy -- Unable to defend his 2014 title at St. Andrews due to a ruptured ligament in his left ankle from a "kickabout" with friends, the Northern Irishman's relationship with the Home of Golf is an odd one to say the least. This week, he's back with his top 30 players 30 and older. Earlier this month, our NFL expert Cody Benjamin revealed his top 25 players 25 and younger. One of two players to finish inside the top 10 of each major championship thus far in 2022, McIlroy is the favorite at the Old Course." His game and mind were made for this tournament." The question is price. The Knicks can send the Jazz as much draft capital as anyone. Mitchell grew up in nearby Connecticut. His father worked for the New York Mets. The interest here is almost certainly mutual. But losing two homegrown stars -- and their former coach -- in one offseason would not be easy. I've said this before with other teams that are rebuilding: It may be the right decision, but that doesn't mean it's an easy pill to swallow. NHL free agency opens in a few hours, and Johnny Gaudreau is going to get some big-time money very, very soon. You can get a free one-month trial of Paramount+ by using GLORY as your offer code.
The Utah Jazz are reportedly listening to trade calls for Mitchell.
It seemed quiet on the Mitchell front … but then? Then, Rudy Gobert got sent to the Minnesota Timberwolves. 5 Mitchell to the Knicks, Part II
The Toronto Raptors sit at +1000 odds of trading for Utah Jazz All-Star Donovan Mitchell if he's traded, Vegas says.
However, Mitchell's lackluster defense doesn't quite fit the Raptors mold and Toronto is far more likely to stay the course with its current roster than pay up for a player of Mitchell's caliber. Considering the asking price for Mitchell is expected to be "steep," per Wojnarowski, a deal to Toronto seems highly unlikely. Toronto has all of its future first-round picks if the Jazz are looking for a trade package similar to their Rudy Gobert deal which included, essentially, five first-round picks and no current roster players of significance.
The Jazz are open to trading their All-Star leader, but they need the Nets to trade theirs first. There's a trio of East teams expected to make competitive ...
Plus, the Nets bolstered their depth by adding two wings in Royce O’Neale and T.J. Warren, while re-signing Patty Mills, Kessler Edwards, and Nic Claxton. On paper, the Nets have a high-powered offense with a ton of versatility on defense. The asking price for Mitchell is so enormous that trading him could bring the Jazz to the tops of the league in first-round picks, surpassing the Thunder (17) and Pelicans (13). Other organizations armed with a lot of draft picks or contenders looking to bolster their postseason odds could also gamble on Simmons. Take a team like the Hawks, for example. If the Nets decide they want Mitchell and want to move Simmons, he still holds value despite his rocky year. Simmons and some collection of picks could have a lot of appeal. But Brooklyn’s interest is also intriguing because to make a strong offer for Mitchell, the Nets would likely have to include part of the haul they receive for Durant or Irving. And when’s the last time a star actually wanted to play in New York? The temptation for Knicks brass could be too strong. Utah could also use Brooklyn’s interest to drive up the price in the bidding war for Mitchell. The Knicks have been the team most commonly tied to the Jazz guard, and with 11 first-round picks from 2023 through 2029, they’re armed with enough assets to make a competitive offer. By trading for Mitchell, the Nets could block the Knicks from acquiring a star while also giving themselves a young foundational piece to build around. The Heat remain in pursuit of Durant, but Mitchell is considered a fallback option if the Heat are unable to land him. The Nets would likely want Bam Adebayo. But they already have Ben Simmons, and NBA rules prevent a team from trading for more than one player who has signed a designated rookie max extension. Deandre Ayton remains unsigned and the Suns desperately want KD. The Pacers and Spurs still have cap space, and could be future homes for Ayton—or others.
With the Utah Jazz entertaining trade packages for All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell, these five NBA destinations make sense.
Jalen Green would likely have to be at the center of this trade package that would accelerate Houston's rebuild. They do have an abundance of attractive wing players that could be shipped out of town. Adding Mitchell would resolve that issue, and make up for one of the bigger draft whiffs in franchise history. While their backcourt is seemingly solidified with Lonzo Ball, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan, the Bulls could take a swing at Mitchell by offering former No. 4 overall pick Patrick Williams and some future draft picks. - Celtics: Like Philly, this package would likely include Marcus Smart -- and Boston's willingness to even consider breaking up it's "Big Three" after a Finals run in 2022. Miami is also arguably the most attractive destination for NBA players. Do they have enough assets though to entertain Utah? Definitely not. - Lakers: If it's not Miami, then Los Angeles is a haven for star basketball players. Another possible target is big man Robert Williams III. Mitchell's New York roots make this a possible landing spot. Fast forward a few days, and Utah has changed its tune. What remains clear for the Nets though is that they want to remain competitive in the 2022-23 season and beyond, having leveraged most of this decade's first-round draft selections in a trade to acquire James Harden from Houston last year.

In the end, this is a trade that has the potential to occur. The Miami Herald says that the Heat would need to add at least 2 first round picks to the deal. The Heat would need to add a plethora of picks to make this deal happen. Robinson is a 28-year old pure shooter who has flashed signs of brilliance from beyond the arc in the past. Tyler Herro has expressed a desire to start this season. Herro averaged just under 21 points per game in a 6th man role for the Heat during this past season.

Utah Jazz coach Will Hardy appeared on Adrian Wojnarowski's podcast Wednesday and discussed his relationship with guard Donovan Mitchell.
“So I would end up while the game was loading on his laptop, we would just sit in his room and chat. It’s just the travel party and there’s really nowhere to go, so we got to spend a lot of time together.” But, if Mitchell is back with the team next season, he and Hardy already have a well-developed relationship.
Both embarrassed multiple teams that passed on them in the NBA and NFL drafts. Both have earned all-star recognition.
There is no denying that the Utah Jazz have continually come up short in the postseason over the last few years. Fans of the Jazz have always.
Utah has to now decide if they want to keep Mitchell in the near future and build a team around him or trade away him and his talents for a high value. Maybe now is the perfect time for the Jazz to really shake things up and let Mitchell go even though he’s such a special star. The guard has a career average of 23.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists a game. But even with Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell in the lead, Utah hasn’t reached that point. Mitchell In The Lead Fans of the Jazz have always expected that the Jazz could make it to the Western Conference Finals or even the NBA Finals.

Utah also recently traded its All-Star center Rudy Gobert to the Timberwolves for four future first-round picks and a handful of players, signaling a possible rebuild. For now, though, as Mitchell said, “We’ll see.” Of course, whether Mitchell ends up on the Knicks remains to be seen.
The latest rumors on teams with interest in Utah's star guard.
Including RJ Barrett might be a non-starter for New York, as the Knicks have no interest in dealing the 22-year-old wing, Begley reports. It’s unclear if Utah would even be interested in Barrett, considering he’s eligible for a rookie scale extension and could be in line for a large payday. Utah also received Minnesota’s 2022 first-rounder, Walker Kessler, as well as Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Leandro Bolmaro.

Mitchell and Ball would be a dynamic backcourt and could have the Hornets firmly in the playoff conversation. It's tough to answer, but if you are the Jazz, Barrett would be a high-quality young player to build around. Utah might not be done retooling their roster, as it's now willing to listen to trade scenarios for All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. As usual, the betting market is paying close attention, listing the Knicks as the odds-on favorite to land Mitchell.
