2022 MLB All-Star Game snubs: Freddie Freeman, Ty France ... (CBS sports.com)

Here are 19 players who have a case that they should have made a Midsummer Classic roster.

A slow start was the culprit here, but he's been one of the better players in the league in June and July. Nola has been one of the best workhorses in the league, compiling 111 1/3 innings to this point. In 20 outings, King has worked 46 1/3 innings, pitching to a 2.33 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 62 strikeouts. Part of the issue with Bell and Freeman was a crowded position, exacerbated by the Rockies needing a representative and C.J. Cron being their best selection. It's a pair of aces for the Phillies, but both were shutout here. The workhorse leads the AL in innings and batters faced. He'd have been a nice story. The Nats only getting one player on the team makes sense. Cease leads the majors with 43 free passes allowed. And let 2022 not disappoint, so let's look at those players, who despite making a compelling case to get to Dodger Stadium, find themselves -- at least at this point -- on the outside looking in. In his last six starts, he has a 0.91 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings. We know William Contreras will take his spot as a starter, but there's still an open roster spot.

How about some love for the reliever who continues to dominate year after year with filthy stuff and a 1.93 ERA this season? The resume: A 2.45 ERA and 133 Ks in 92 innings. So letโ€™s go over some of the guys left out, and maybe if thereโ€™s an injury or any other reason a player has to bow out, this list will provide some good replacements.

Biggest Winners and Losers of the 2022 MLB All-Star Roster (Bleacher Report)

There's no longer any mystery about which players will be at Dodger Stadium on July 19 for the 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The.

Yet when they appear at Chavez Ravine next Tuesday, fans will be thinking less about that and a lot more about the two sluggers' other credentials. If not the man to beat, he's at least in the conversation for the AL Cy Young Award. Cabrera, 39, has one more guaranteed year on his contract with the Detroit Tigers, but the opportunity to share in Pujols' final farewell is just fine by the man himself: With Pujols hitting just .215 and Cabrera recording only 10 extra-base hits to go with his .295 average, neither player would have made the All-Star Game under normal circumstances. You're not going to come away very impressed if you focus solely on the 27-year-old's batting numbers. Along with his MVP, two Cy Youngs, three no-hitters, World Series ring and now nine All-Star selections, it's yet another item on a resume that's going to get him into the Hall of Fame one day. Among other things, that means that anyone who tunes into the Midsummer Classic might not get a chance to see Atlanta's Spencer Strider throw his fastball. To wit, his 39.1 strikeout percentage is easily the highest among all hurlers who've logged at least 60 innings. At 2.70, it's exactly the same as his actual ERA and tied for fourth among qualified starting pitchers. The Alomar brothers also put up 4.2 fWAR in the first half of 1992, so there's some nice symmetry here in addition to that human-interest story you might be looking for. If you're thinking the losers are various kinds of snubs, well, you're not wrong. But after going on the injured list on Sunday with right hand inflammation, now Alvarez won't play at all.

In other words, when thereโ€™s a catcher having a good offensive season, that catcher is usually going to be on the team. When that catcher plays for the team that is hosting the game, it is even more surprising. This current era of catchers are not a very good hitting bunch.

Although the Giants have been one of the more disappointing teams in baseball of late, Rodon has done his best to give them a chance whenever he takes the ball. However, the Reds third baseman showed flashes in a stint for the Mets last year and has authored a shocking breakout campaign for Cincinnati in 2022. The White Sox hurler possesses some of the most electric stuff in MLB, and it feels like a miss that he won't be on one of baseball's biggest stages. Gausman is currently dealing with an ankle injury but has racked up the most fWAR among any starting pitcher in baseball. Rizzo leads all AL first basemen in home runs and is a vital cog in the Yankees' vaunted offensive attack. An elbow injury sidelined France for almost two weeks, but the Mariners first baseman has a claim for the biggest snub of any player.
