The victim in the Santa Ana shooting was found in a parking lot outside the 7-Eleven after the shooting was reported at 3:20 a.m., Lopez said.

Each year, the convenience store gives out free Slurpees to celebrate. Other robberies were also reported in Riverside, Upland, and Ontario. As of Monday evening, no one had been taken into custody. The gunshot victim is in "grave condition." At least six stores reported robberies, and so far, police believe the same suspect was responsible for several of them.

The gunman shot the man, who was not an employee of the convenience store, in his upper torso, killing him, she said. The gunman, whom investigators were still trying to identify, had robbed the store at gunpoint and shot a customer, he said. A fifth store in the area was robbed of about $500 in cash. The gunman stole about $500, he said.
