Rage Against the Machine played the first of its reunion shows on July 9, covering Bruce Springsteen and slamming SCOTUS in the process.

Forced birth in a country where Black birth-givers experience maternal mortality two to three times higher than that of white birth-givers. In reaction to the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe v. During the window of the group’s two-year postponement, the list of political frustrations in the United States has only expanded.

Rage Against the Machine erupts, slams Supreme Court, at Alpine ... (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)

Run The Jewels opened for Rage's reunion tour kickoff, delayed two years due to COVID, where the band slammed the Supreme Court for repealing Roe.

“Always us versus the (expletive) powerful.” - This was my first Alpine Valley since 2019 — this is also the historic East Troy venue’s first season in two years. Wade, Rage previously announced that $475,000 earned from the sale of charity-benefiting tickets at the Alpine show, and two gigs at the United Center in Chicago, would be donated to reproductive rights organizations in Wisconsin and Illinois. - The Rage show had several simple, cinematic, dialogue-free video clips that upheld the night’s tension, often played when the band briefly walked off stage for a breather. Just remember, if you’re seeing a show at Alpine this summer, getting in and out is an ordeal. “Every day on evening news they feed you fear for free,” Killer Mike rapped. They repeatedly expressed their gratitude to be opening for Rage, and they performed like they’d been training for this set every day for the past three years. (His hair's a touch trimmer now, the most apparent physical difference among the band from 2011.) And in that regard, De La Rocha was a critical conduit. Starting two years later than planned because of COVID-19, the tour began with the state of the country still a Dumpster fire, and Rage and their fans have a growing number of issues to be enraged about. But they channeled their fury through their visceral music, which sounded as urgent as it ever has — despite the fact that none of the 18 songs touched on Saturday were created in the 21st century. That guitar stunt involving Morello's chompers, for virtually every band, would be the grand finale.

At no point during the show did any member of the group address the crowd or their long absence from the stage, though Morello, who can still make his guitar sound like everything from a siren to a turntable, wore an “I Love CRT” shirt during the final few songs, and “Abort the Supreme Court” appeared on the screen. After an energetic set by opening act Run the Jewels, Rage kicked off their performance with an explosive rendition of “Bombtrack” from their 1992 self-titled LP. Zack de la Rocha has rarely been seen in public over the past decade, but he clearly put in his work before this tour since he was in near-flawless vocal form and had boundless energy, looking at least a decade younger than his 52 years. They’re not only one of the most thrilling live acts in rock history, mashing together rap and rock into a completely unique fusion, their politically-charged music was decades ahead of its time and feels almost custom-made for this exact moment.

The story of Rage Against The Machine's Bulls Of Parade: "Our ... (MusicRadar)

As RATM return to the stage, Tom Morello gives an insider's perspective on one of their most incendiary track.

“The album was a strong piece of work,” reflected Morello, “and I would call Bulls On Parade a real banger. “I used [it] on the entire song,” he explained, “and that includes the solo, which I improvised in the tracking room with headphones on. I would also give it up for Brad and his supreme drumming – he shifts on a dime but never loses one iota of power. “We didn’t know it would be the first single when we started jamming on it,” said Morello, “but we realised quickly that it was a most potent piece of music. But what I did was I clicked the wah all the way down so it gave me white noise. “It just worked,” he says with a laugh. Morello remembered the song as a true group effort, with bassist Tim Commerford, who was listening to a lot of jazz at the time, coming up with the syncopated riff that kicks off the song. “It was exactly what the song needed. “Tipping over the apple carts of the powers that be was always at the forefront of everything Rage did,” Morello told us in 2011. Our method of working was pretty much ‘jam, roll the cassette tape, then cut the real track’. Not a lot of time for overthinking and overtinkering.” And he put every facet of his renegade skills to use on Bulls On Parade. "To that end, I decided to rail against the accepted rules of ‘shred’ guitar, which in my opinion were making every six-stringer around sound the same.
