Dach, 21, played in just 152 games across three seasons in Chicago, notching 19 goals with 40 assists. After a rather underwhelming return for DeBrincat, this Dach trade felt a lot more in line with an appropriate return for a player who did have his struggles but also had plenty of potential as a former No. 3 overall pick. Chicago traded Kirby Dach, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a first-round pick (13th overall) and third-round pick (66th overall) in this year’s draft.

The Dach trade came just hours after the Hawks traded Alex DeBrincat, two parts of a crazy day at the 2022 NHL Draft.

He’s still just 21 years old and still possesses all the raw skills to develop into an excellent two-way center. He recorded just 26 points in 70 games, clearly lacking confidence, before more wrist aggravation shut him down. Dach was traded to the Canadiens at the NHL Draft on Thursday for the 13th and 66th overall picks.

The Blackhawks traded young center Kirby Dach to the Canadiens for the 13th and 66th picks in the Thursday night draft.

Montreal sent defenseman Alexander Romanov and the 98th overall pick to the New York Islanders for the 13th overall pick in the first round. Romanov, 22, was drafted 38th overall by Montreal in 2018 and just completed his second NHL season. But Chicago wanted a first-round pick in the 2022 draft after sending its own pick to Columbus in last year's Seth Jones trade.

The Chicago Blackhawks traded Kirby Dach to the Montreal Canadiens for the 13th and 66th overall picks in the 2022 NHL Draft.

In 152 games with the Blackhawks, Dach scored 19 goals and had 40 assists. The Habs had acquired the 13th pick from the New York Islanders in a deal announced simultaneously, according to commissioner Gary Bettman. The Blackhawks also acquired the 66th overall selection in the draft from the Montreal Canadiens in the trade.
