Starting with “Batman Begins” and most notably in “ The Dark Knight,” Bale and Nolan grounded the character in a level of realism the comic book movie genre had never seen.

Christian Bale: People Would 'Laugh at Me' for Taking Batman ... (IndieWire)

Christian Bale revealed that people doubted his ability to play a serious version of Batman for Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy.

Let’s not linger too long.’ In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.’ And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.” “I had a pact with Chris Nolan,” Bale explained. You complain about me, I’m too weird, I’m too dark, and then you put nipples on the costume? As for Bale donning the Batsuit once again, the actor told Screen Rant that he would be up for leading a fourth “Batman” film so long as Nolan is directing. The Dark Knight” trilogy also set future portrayals of the Caped Crusader in a darker direction, seemingly returning to the darker tone Tim Burton hinted at in “Batman” and “Batman Returns.” Matt Reeves’ most recent “The Batman” starred Robert Pattinson as a moody, grunge-inflected orphan superhero. “I would [tell people] we’re going to sort of do Batman, but take him seriously,” Bale told The Washington Post. “I had tons of people laugh at me and just say, ‘Well, that’s just not going to work at all.'”

Who Is Christian Bale's Wife? All About Sibi Blazic (PEOPLE.com)

Christian Bale and Sibi Blazic may be one of Hollywood's most low-key couples, but they're still going strong after over two decades of marriage.

You're a d—. I want you to be that character again," he told PEOPLE in November 2019. "I think it's just about him and me just f—— sitting there being too weak to be able to do anything. "[Sibi] actually really liked Trevor Reznik, from The Machinist," he shared. "But I suddenly found that I'd met somebody and I said, "Screw it. I carry a picture of them with me all the time," he said in 2009. Bale's own father David gave marriage another shot when he married Gloria Steinem shortly after Bale and Blazic tied the knot in 2000, making Blazic the activist's stepdaughter-in-law. I wouldn't be working without her." "I never planned to marry. My wife terrifies me." "I've absolutely fallen into that cliché of a dad who could just happily talk about my daughter endlessly, but it's not what I'm about in terms of being an actor. Despite their lengthy relationship, Bale and Blazic have managed to keep most of their private life away from the public eye — although Bale has occasionally opened up about his wife and family. She was reportedly featured as a model in the late makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin's New York Times best-selling book, Face Forward, alongside subjects like Celine Dion, Julianne Moore and Sharon Stone.

Christian Bale Talks Superhero Naysayers, Admits People Laughed ... (Cinema Blend)

Christian Bale admitted superhero naysayers laughed at him when he first told them about Christoper Nolan's vision for the Dark Knight trilogy.

They wanted to take the Caped Crusader back to his mysterious and dark roots. But returning to the genre made him look back at the film trilogy’s success. Years after finishing the Dark Knight trilogy, his return to the superhero genre threw some moviegoers off, especially the switch from DC to Marvel. Bale saw Voldemort-like Gorr the God Butcher as an opportunity to work with Taika Waititi and play a villain this time around. Before the superhero franchise’s immense success, Bale admitted people laughed at him when he first told them about Christopher Nolan’s vision for Batman and the Dark Knight trilogy. That might never happen given the director only envisioned his story as a trilogy with a fourth film not being part of the plan. Given the lack of Batman content, some people might’ve doubted his decision to take on the DC staple.

The storyline of Starkiller within The Force Unleashed games (and subsequent novels and comic books) is one of the darker ones even in a galaxy far, far away; he is the son of a Jedi killed by Vader in the post-Revenge of the Sith years and essentially programmed to be a remorseless killer. This may be the best chance yet to see a feverishly intense Christian Bale wielding a lightsaber in Star Wars. That may change soon because our trusted and proven sources tell us that Christian Bale is up for a fan-favorite role in an upcoming Star Wars project.

Christian Bale & 9 Other Superhero Actors Who Should Return In A ... (Screen Rant)

Legacy actors are returning for the next era of superhero films. With DC getting in on the multiverse, which former superhero actors should return?

Now that over a decade has passed and Reynolds is comfortably settling into his role as Deadpool, it may be the perfect time to revisit this colossal disappointment. It is no secret that Ryan Reynolds went through a series of mishaps in his search for the perfect superhero role. In 2004, Halle Berry starred as Patience Phillips, a brand-new version of Catwoman in the film of the same name. Instead, the film struggled to find its audience and flopped at the box office, killing any chance at a sequel. Slater has been more than willing to participate in DC projects following her initial role, even recurring as Kara Zor-El's foster mother in the Arrowverse's Supergirl series, indicating that she could also appear in future films, even if just for a brief cameo. The time seems perfect for Reeves's return to this role, especially in the fallout of the actor's meteoric comeback in recent years.

Christian Bale Ridiculed Over Batman Performance (GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT)

In a couple of weeks it will be the 10th anniversary of the release of The Dark Knight Rises — the final entry in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.

A good film is a good film. Often considered the best of the trilogy, 2007’s The Dark Knight won two Oscars, including a posthumous win for Best Supporting Actor going to Heath Ledger for his role as the Joker. While there had certainly been superhero films that had won acclaim before, for such a prestigious award to go to an actor for a superhero movie seemed impossible beforehand. In a couple of weeks it will be the 10th anniversary of the release of The Dark Knight Rises — the final entry in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

People Laughed At Christian Bale When He Said He Wanted To ... (/FILM)

It's hard to remember a time when Batman wasn't the overly serious vigilante of Christopher Nolan, Zack Snyder, or Matt Reeves' respective films.

The Dark Knight is a versatile enough character that he can actually be a perfect fit for a dark film, as shown in the success of "Batman Begins" and its two acclaimed sequels. All that changed with Nolan's take on the character, as portrayed by Christian Bale. Nolan flipped the world of Gotham entirely on its head, retrofitting it for our gritty, post-9/11 landscape — and Batman films have never looked back. But back through the '90s, Batman was pretty much a champion of camp: He sported nipples on his suit, he cracked bad jokes, and he brawled with madcap villains with pink hair and bad catchphrases.
