The Challenge: USA Premiere Recap: Which Duo Was Sent ... (TVLine)

CBS kicked off a new season of 'The Challenge' with players from Survivor, Big Brother and more — who was first out? Read recap and grade it.

TJ calls Azah and Kyland down to the sand, but of course they need some opponents. After the meeting, Tyson and Angela agree to be each other’s ride-or-die until the very end. Azah and Kyland get down the building fast, but a tiny math mistake sends them back up to the roof. Only one team had to run back up to the roof, so it’s no surprise that Kyland and Azah are this week’s losers. He reveals a board that has all of their names on it and a bunch of blinking lights. The team to get it done the fastest will win the challenge, be safe from elimination and win $5,000 each for their personal bank accounts. Then, they must place the answer in the answer key on the ground. They have three chances to get it right, otherwise they must trek aaaall the way up to the roof to try again. Needless to say, some of the Love Islanders might be in for a rude awakening. In “Down to Do the Math,” teams must repel down a 22-story building, solving a series of equations on the way. Derek (who’s also from the same BB season) tells us Alyssa is his one of his closest allies, and he’s totally down for getting some payback on The Cookout foursome (which also includes Tiffany, Azah and Kyland). Let the games begin! He also tells them they’re playing to earn a spot in the international Challenge tournament, which will stream exclusively on Paramount+ at a date TBD. (That series will pit them against winners from other shows happening all over the world.)

The Challenge: USA premiere recap: Is it Survivor ... (EW.com)

Who was the first man and woman eliminated from the new CBS 'The Challenge' spin-off, 'The Challenge: USA?' Follow along with EW's recap of the series ...

This is a combination of strength (that rope is heavy), endurance (they have to constantly climb up and through a metal structure), and intellect (figuring out the best way to stump the other team). Going off of what we've seen from both teams so far, I'd give the advantage to Kyland and Azah, but you never know what could happen in an elimination. Their suspicions are confirmed when Tyson and Angela meet with Kyland and Azah to find out their preferences, and it comes out that Shannon supposedly doesn't want to be here, so Shannon and James are likely getting called out. And as the winners, not only do they now have $6,000 each in their accounts, they also get to pick Kyland and Azah's elimination opponents. Everyone starts out with $1,000 in their individual bank accounts, and they can add to that total by winning challenges or eliminations (where they can steal all the money in their opponent's account). By the end of the season, players must have at least $5,000 in order to qualify for the final. Kyland and Azah are among the first two teams to go, and while they make it down first, they don't get the correct answer in three guesses, so they have to try again. well, let's just say I can already tell who is going to rise to the top of the pile here. The show is making it easy to follow along with who already knows each other and previous drama by having the players tell you who they're worried about/mad at/wanting to work with. At the end of the season, the remaining group of players compete in one final, multi-day challenge and the top performing man and woman ultimately win $500,000. And you've picked the perfect place to get all the details on this newest spin-off, The Challenge: USA. Here's the general format of the show if you're new here: Players live together in one giant house, compete in extreme physical and mental challenges, and vote players into eliminations where they have to battle it out for their chance to stay in the game. Welcome to an all-new era of The Challenge. For those of you who watch every season on MTV (and the All Stars spin-off seasons on Paramount+), you already know the drill. It's all just so surreal and incredible, like my own personal fever dream come true, and I'm excited to help guide you along this season with my weekly recaps and exit interviews with the players who get eliminated in each episode.

'The Challenge: USA' Premiere: What Did You Think of the New ... (TV Insider)

Spoiler Alert. Laura Barisonzi, courtesy of Paramount. [Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for The Challenge: USA series premiere.] If you' ...

The elimination itself is one that fans of The Challenge will recognize: Knot So Fast. Each team must knot 250 feet of rope in, out, and around a pyramid, making it as hard as they can for the other one to unravel. So all in all, the series is about what you’d expect from a Challenge, minus any familiar MTV faces competing (which, granted, is part of the fun of the franchise). The premiere did leave us wondering how the personal accounts will factor in once the players are in the final. The format is the same, and even the new rule fits right in with what fans know of the franchise and TJ’s finals: in order to qualify to compete for that $500,000 grand prize (and then a spot in the international global championship tournament), players must have $5,000 in their personal Challenge accounts. And so when it’s time for the elimination, Love Island‘s Cely and Javonny are blindsided when Tyson and Angela send them in. While it’s easy to figure out who loses — Big Brother‘s Azah and Kyland are the only ones who must run to the top — the top three teams are separated by only 17 seconds: Survivor‘s Danny and Shan (his wife told him not to partner with her!), Tyson and Big Brother‘s Angela, and Survivor‘s Desi and Cinco. If you’ve watched at least one episode of The Challenge since it premiered in 1998, you probably have a good idea of the format: daily challenges, house drama, and an elimination.

'The Challenge: USA': Sneak Peek Of New CBS Series That Bunim ... (Deadline)

'The Challenge: USA': Sneak Peek Of New CBS Series That Bunim/Murray's Julie Pizzi Calls "The Best Show You're Not Watching"

They said, ‘okay, we wanna do a Challenge for CBS, and then we want to do The Challenge: UK, The Challenge: Argentina, and The Challenge: Australia. And then we want to take all those winners and other Challenge vets and pull them into a tournament that would be a global tournament that would air all over the world on Paramount Plus.” They see them being young and immature and then they find love and they get married and then they have children and they continue to come on the show and compete.” On The Challenge: USA, players are given $1,000 to start their individual challenge accounts, and must battle to keep and increase their reward. So we bring back the veterans, people that have been around a long time because the investment from the audience is incredible. Pizzi is bullish about The Challenge finding even more fans on CBS. “The one thing that’s really unique about The Challenge is that it’s the best show that you’re not watching,” she says. “I don’t think anyone knew what it would grow into,” says Pizzi, who worked as a segment producer on the very first Real World/Road Rules Challenge. “It just became bigger than The Real World and Road Rules. It’s the only show of the three on the air in its original incarnation.

T.J. Lavin Teases 'Next Level' Competitors on 'The Challenge: USA ... (Us Weekly)

Us Weekly spoke with 'The Challenge: USA' host T.J. Lavin ahead of the premiere – watch our exclusive interview.

So it is what it is, but I do know that the competition is great. And it’s so fun to have new people that appreciate the new and what is going on on this little challenge show that we have is insane. TL: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I can say that I’ve been disappointed here and there. And there’s also a professional athlete, you know, Danny McCray. I watched him run in one of the challenges and it was a thing of magic. I was like, “OK, I don’t know if I could do that. And I’m pretty sure it was called … I don’t even know what it was so called. And it’s so fun to have new people that appreciate the new and what is going on on this little challenge show that we have is insane.” If you said “I give you a million dollars right now and tell me what, what it was.” I have no idea who picked who, what went down, who went where, ‘cause it all blends together. Cause if even if you’re walking around with $50,000, then if you don’t make it to the end and you don’t qualify, you don’t make it. Like, when you told me, “Can you tell me anything about this or that?” I was like, “I mean, maybe I can, but I can’t.” I really have no idea. TL: There’s a very interesting thing called an algorithm and that is something that has changed the game. It was really a great experience and everybody to work with was amazing and it was awesome.

Who Went Home on 'The Challenge: USA' Season 1? (Distractify)

Who went home on 'The Challenge: USA'? Host TJ Lavin kicked off the eliminations on the July 6 premiere of the CBS series. Details on the teams who are ...

Which team will be the next to get sent home? During the "Knot So Fast" elimination, Javonny and Cely continued to struggle to work together well as a team. Unfortunately for Javonny and Cely, the Big Brother stars were faster at unraveling the rope in the elimination. Cely paired up with fellow Love Island star Javonny, and the the competitors were then asked to solve a series of equations while repelling down a building. Who went home on The Challenge: USA Season 1? It is, therefore, impossible for a competitor to coast to the final (which has happened before on past seasons of the MTV show).
