Mediacom reporting outages across midwest (KCRG)

An online outage tracker for the City of Cedar Rapids shows an uptick of reports came in shortly after 1:00 pm.

Mediacom reports internet, phone outages resolved (KOMU 8)

According to many Mediacom users on Twitter, these difficulties affected internet as well as telephone connections.

Although there were outage reports from across the country, many Mediacom users and network tracking organizations such as NetBlocks and DownDetector reported that the outage primarily affected residents of Missouri and Iowa. Internet provider Mediacom said it has resolved outages for its internet and phone services. Since 3:30 pm, at least 8,500 outages have been reported, according to downdetector.com. More than 95% of the reported problems were internet outages.

A spokesperson said Mediacom has not seen an issue like this before. Approximately 211000 customers had their service disrupted.

The internet interruption started around 2:51 p.m. and was resolved around 3:30 p.m. Customers appeared to have lost services across Iowa again later in the evening. Customers in central, southeast and southwest Iowa had no phone or internet service.

Iowans continue to report internet issues after a Mediacom outage affected customers in central, southeast and southwest Iowa on Tuesday.

"I have lost numerous days' pay because of outages or equipment issues or waiting for a tech," Okones said. According to Okones, when she first called to report the outage to Mediacom, a representative told her there had not been a confirmed outage within the past 24 hours and the issue must be with her modem. On her third call to Mediacom, a representative told her that the area was experiencing an internet outage. Mediacom Communications Director Phyllis Peters said the outage Tuesday was caused by an electronics failure in a major aggregation router, a network hub. "There's tremendous amount of electronics, and a failure can happen at some point in some piece of equipment. I lose income and I cannot make that income up."

Mediacom reports third major outage in last two days (KOMU 8)

Reports of service outages spiked just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
