BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for 13 counties in Maryland until 9 p.m. on Saturday.

The weather on the federal holiday should be perfect for fireworks and cookouts. The Fourth of July looks hot and sunny with temperature highs in the upper 80s. Storm chances in the Baltimore area will end tonight. Wind damage will be the main threat from gusty winds in storms in the evening. The storms will move through the Baltimore area around 6–7 p.m. and then move over to the Eastern Shore and Southern Maryland early tonight after sunset.READ MORE: Baltimore City is also in the path of the storm.

The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. This is usually issued first for a broad areas and over the course of 6 hours or longer. I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos. A shorter time frame with more specific towns and counties will be named. This does bring heightened attention to Ellicott City for flooding. Here we go again, but this was expected.

That is when storms may most target the D.C. area and Interstate 95 corridor. Southern Maryland may be the last place in the region to clear its showers, perhaps midday. Tonight the area around the Beltway should most keep an eye on the 6 to 9 p.m. window. The main threats are damaging wind gusts in some storms. Strong to severe storms are most probable during the evening hours — especially toward sunset. However, if a severe thunderstorm warning is issued for your location, it means an intense storm is imminent and you should seek shelter.
