Wimbledon 2022 live: Rafael Nadal vs. Lorenzo Sonego score ... (Sporting News)

Rafael Nadal live score: The Spaniard takes on Lorenzo Sonego in the third round at Wimbledon on Centre Court and The Sporting News is on hand to bring you ...

Nadal gets the first point of the match as Sonego hits a return into the net. Sonego curses to himself as he gifts Nadal break point with an overhit forehand. Nadal wins the next point but Sonego should have put it to bed having lobbed Nadal and then got back into a decent position only to hit his next forehand long. Sonego thought he had break point at 30-3- as his cross-court forehand just went wide as Nadal came to the net. When he does, on the last point, Nadal is at the net to hit the volley. Sonego is rewarded for his efforts in chasing around the court as Nadal ends the rally by hitting the net, 15-15. Nadal has Sonego playing so deep and then exploits his positioning with a volley at net to go 30-0 up. Sonego runs himself into the ground to win an energetic point and get to 40-30, a forehand winner leaving Nadal no chance. He goes to the net and calls for Sonego to come over and have a word. Nadal gets to break point though and a poor decision from Sonego allows Nadal to backhand volley. Wow. Sonego is sent from left to right and back again and slips but still manages to scoop a forehand winner as he falls to the floor. An ace coupled with a neat volley at the net that forces Sonego into hitting wide gets Nadal to 30-0.

Ruthless Rafael Nadal Dispatches Lorenzo Sonego At Wimbledon ... (ATP Tour)

Rafael Nadal wasted little time in booking his place in the Wimbledon fourth round for Saturday, racing past Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.

"He's a complete player with a lot of great things, and I need to keep going the way that I played today: playing aggressive and playing with the right energy. Nadal flew out of the blocks against Sonego in their first ATP Head2Head meeting, pulling the Italian from corner to corner with his heavy forehand. With Nadal leading 4-2, the roof was closed due to fading light. With his foot on the gas, Nadal continued to dictate in the third set, flattening out his backhand to cause Sonego more trouble. "It was probably my best match without a doubt here at The Championships against the most difficult player I have faced yet,” Nadal said in his on-court interview. The 36-year-old blasted the ball past Sonego from all angles, while demonstrating deft touches at the net to advance after two hours and four minutes.

Rafael Nadal brushes Lorenzo Sonego aside to make Wimbledon ... (The Guardian)

Rafael Nadal made light work of Lorenzo Sonego 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 to keep his bid for a third Wimbledon title well and truly on track.

Nobody is betting against a 60th meeting between the 35-year-old Serb and his old Spanish friend in the final here next weekend. It will be immensely difficult on the fast-wearing Wimbledon grass, where he has won only twice, in 2008 and 2010 – and he was out for four months last year hobbling into the Australian Open in January unsure if he could even finish the fortnight. Nadal did not hide his frustration before breaking back and serving out the match in a little over two hours.

I never thought that would happen 10 years ago so I feel lucky." Mats Wilander reveals factor that could benefit Rafael Nadal in ... (Tennis World)

Former seven-time Grand Slam champion Mats Wilander says the more Wimbledon goes the bigger Rafael Nadal's chances of winning are.

If nothing unexpected happens, we will see a Nadal and Djokovic Wimbledon final. "It's completely irrelevant what you look like and what you feel like after two matches because they are only going to play in the finals," he said. When the draw was made, Nadal, Djokovic and Matteo Berrettini were considered as the three top favorites.
