UFC 276 staredown videos: Adesanya vs. Cannonier, Volkanovski ... (MMAmania.com)

In UFC 276's pay-per-view (PPV) main event, reigning Middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, defends his crown against No. 2-ranked contender, Jared Cannonier.

Lastly, rising UFC star Sean O’Malley will finally meet his first top 10 opponent when he opens the UFC 276 PPV main card against Pedro Munhoz. O’Malley has turned in a 7-1 record since his UFC debut back in 2017, but “Sugar” has yet to defeat any top names. Tomorrow Adding to the mix will be a middleweight clash between streaking veteran Sean Strickland and former GLORY middleweight and light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, who holds a knockout win over Adesanya from back in 2017. Tomorrow Tomorrow “Last Stylebender” has all of the advantages on paper, but Cannonier is a heavy puncher that can put the champion in trouble at any moment.

On one hand, the O'Malley hype is a bit extreme. His striking is beautiful, but I’m still convinced he is vulnerable to leg kicks and takedowns, and Pedro Munhoz should be able to hit him with plenty of both this weekend. Although he's a shell of the fighter he once was, this isn't the type of fight he's used to. I think he catches Strickland in the second round, and that will be that. But it seems like Lawler is past that point, and beating Nick Diaz doesn't change that view. Tom Taylor: Strickland has pretty effective striking, but he’s going to be totally outmatched for every moment he’s on the feet with the former two-division Glory champ Pereira. The good news for Strickland is that this is an MMA fight, so takedowns are allowed. This time, however, the judges reward him for it. And the champion has seemingly gotten much better at everything since they last fought, so I suspect he does it again. I can't imagine it doesn't go 25 again, so we'll roll the dice and get ready for the fourth edition. This time out, he'll be looking for his fourth title defense, while Holloway will be looking for his sixth championship victory in the Octagon. Specifically, will he be able to find his shot to finally make Adesanya uncomfortable at this weight class? Headlining honors will go to a middleweight title fight between once-beaten champion Israel Adesanya (22-1) and streaking contender Jared Cannonier (15-5), a former heavyweight who has kept all of his power at 185 pounds.

UFC 276 predictions (MMA Fighting)

Can Israel Adesanya deliver on his highlight-reel guarantee? Will Alexander Volkanovski put an exclamation point on his rivalry with Max Holloway?

The man can’t be finished and he’s going to give O’Malley fits as he marches through the best that “Sugar” has to offer. As long as he doesn’t eat a bowl-full of haymakers in Round 1, Barberena should have the cardio advantage and seek to push the pace for 15 minutes. Not that cardio has ever been a major issue for Lawler, but years of wars have taken a toll on him and Barberena’s clearest path to victory is to see just how much the “Ruthless” one has left. Twice. But like all the great champions, Volkanovski adapts, and I’m confident that the 10 rounds he’s already spent in the cage with Holloway have given him a wealth of information with which to prepare for anything that Holloway has to offer. Munhoz is an excellent boxer, so look for him to cut off the cage, rough O’Malley up, and really test his opponent’s ability to control range. “Bam Bam” might never make it into the top 10 of the welterweight rankings and I’m assuming that doesn’t mean a damn thing to him anyway. That doesn’t mean this won’t be competitive though as a wounded Holloway is a dangerous Holloway and you can bet he’ll be scrapping to the bitter end. Pereira has shown decent takedown defense in his brief MMA career and he has plenty of size to work with too, but I think Strickland can wear him down if he puts a heavy emphasis on wrestling. As long as he’s allowed to step into the cage and swing freely against guys like Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown, he’s a happy man. That’s not to take away from some of the excellent headliners and championship bouts that we’ve seen in the past six months, but on paper it’s hard to beat a card featuring three of the six best pound-for-pound best fighters in the world. Volkanovski won an epic battle with Brian Ortega and then dusted “The Korean Zombie,” while Holloway held the gate against two top-10 challengers in Calvin Kattar and Yair Rodriguez to secure another crack at Volkanovski. Adesanya has promised to make magic happen against Jared Cannonier, but much like his spiritual predecessor Anderson Silva, “The Last Stylebender” needs a suitable dance partner to bring out the best in him.

Volkanovski has come out on top in the first two fights, but Holloway has proved worthy of another crack at the championship. The Killa Gorilla is coming off a knockout win over Derek Brunson and has finishes against Anderson Silva, Jack Hermansson and David Branch on his resume. That includes two UFC wins, but he's hardly proved himself against elite competition. The problem is we've seen what happens when he runs into someone who brings a certain level of defensive striking. However, inside the cage, he's shown some restraint. The question is whether Cannonier's power can balance out the disparity in technical prowess. Sean Strickland might be reckless with his trash talk. In partnership with Meadows Racetrack & Casino. Eligibility restrictions apply. This is going to be another epic fight. The final fight of the evening features another challenger trying to take away Israel Adesanya's middleweight crown. The challenger can't be ruled out. Max Holloway 3, with the middleweight and featherweight titles on the line respectively.

As for Barberena, he has won two straight and a third straight victory would give him the longest win streak of his UFC career. If he can get back on track with a win over “Suga,” it would be a great way to get some momentum going. He is perfect (2-0) inside the Octagon, but one more win could get him to the big dance even faster that Jiri Prochazka earned his championship fight. For “The Great,” taking out Holloway puts the Hawaiian in his rear-view mirror for good. Green is 2-1 inside the eight-walled cage and a big win over Garry will give him a bigger share of the spotlight. Turner, on the other hand, is in search of his fifth straight win after earning four straight stoppage victories. In women’s Bantamweight action, Jessica Rose-Clark will battle Julija Stoliarenko, who is trying to stop the bleeding of her horrid three-fight losing streak. While Hall makes his bread on the feet, Muniz prefers to mix it up on the ground, so this will come down to whoever can implement their gameplan first. Also, a fight between Jim Miller and Bobby Green was scrapped after Green bowed out of the bout for unknown reasons. Along the way, he picked up huge wins over Anderson Silva, Kelvin Gastelum and knocked out Derek Brunson in his previous fight to get the title shot. Adesanya has the striking advantage here with Cannonier taking the edge in the power. Which is odd, really, because the titleholder is usually the one with the target on his back, but “The Last Stylebender” has always been very outspoken about how much he respects “Killa Gorilla” and how he’s wanted to test his skills against the former Heavyweight. Thankfully, Cannonier did his part to make the fight happen, winning his last two fights, going 5-1 over his last six to shoot up to the No. 2 spot on UFC’s official rankings list.
