In Atlanta, trading for Dejounte Murray was not the only deal the Hawks’ front-office had their eyes on. Overall, this is a pretty well-balanced trade that gives both teams what they were looking for. After recently acquiring All-Star guard Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs, the Hawks went out and made another move by trading Kevin Huerter to the Sacramento Kings on Friday, first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Huerter was traded to Sacramento in exchange for Justin Holiday, Mo Harkless and a future first-round pick Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Atlanta will reportedly receive Justin Holiday, Maurice Harkless, and a future first-round pick.
Assuming both are retained, Holiday and Harkless also offer some defensive versatility that Huerter lacked. As Yossi Gozlan of HoopsHype tweets, Atlanta is hovering right around the tax line for 13 players. Neither Fox nor Sabonis is a major threat from beyond the arc, but they should be surrounded by solid floor-spaces.

Harkless averaged 4.6 points for Sacramento last season. He was a starter for the overwhelming majority of his time in Atlanta. Holiday spent 26 games with the Hawks in the 2015-16 season and averaged 8.3 points for the Kings this past season.

The Kings are sending Justin Holiday, Mo Harkless and a top-14 protected first-round pick in 2024 for Huerter, sources said. That pick can become a top-12 protected pick in 2025 or a top-10 protected pick in 2026, sources added. The Sacramento Kings reached a deal to acquire Atlanta Hawks guard Kevin Huerter for a 2024 protected first-round pick and two players on Friday, sources told ESPN.

The Atlanta Hawks are trading Kevin Huerter to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Justin Holiday, Moe Harkless and a future first-round pick, according to multiple reports.
The Kings continue to make big moves on the second day of NBA free agency.
After his second season at Maryland, Huerter declared for the 2018 NBA Draft without an agent. In June 2018, the Hawks selected Huerter with the No. 19 overall pick, and he remained in the ATL for four seasons. Sacramento reportedly made a major trade with the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, sending Justin Holiday and Moe Harkless in exchange for Kevin Huerter, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The future draft pick is lottery protected in 2024, and it becomes top-12 protected in 2025 and top-10 protected in 2026. This is a rather puzzling move on ...
For the Kings, this is an impressive trade for a front office that has struggled to string together several quality decisions in what feels like forever. Huerter could start in the backcourt alongside Fox, or the Kings could opt for defensive stalwart Davion Mitchell, who progressed nicely in his rookie season a year ago. The Hawks could still make additional moves, like trading John Collins, and they could recoup some of what they lost in Huerter in that trade. Pairing these two with De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis is a quality quartet of players for the Kings to have entering next season. It's actually surprising they couldn't get more value in terms of returning players for Huerter if they were going to make him available. I'm not sure what the plan is here with this Hawks trade.
The Hawks are trading Kevin Huerter to the Kings in exchange for Justin Holiday, Moe Harkless and a future first-round pick, according to a person fam.
The Sacramento Kings have acquired Kevin Huerter in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks, trading a first-round pick and two players.
Huerter is an effective perimeter shooter, hitting 44.9% of his three-point attempts from the perimeter last season and he has averaged 2.1 three-pointers made per game over the past three years. By adding Monk and Huerter, Sacramento shores up one of the weakest positions on its roster and retained veteran Harrison Barnes. Entering the offseason, Sacramento wanted to address its lack of depth and talent on the wing.
After acquiring All-Star guard Dejounte Murray from the Spurs on Wednesday, the Hawks have made another move in an effort to strengthen their roster around ...
However, after signing a four-year, $65 million contract extension last fall, the 23-year-old’s production didn’t justify keeping him around in the eyes of team management with his new deal set to kick in. Still, the trade does come as a bit of a surprise as Huerter could’ve provided scoring depth off the bench after turning in one of the most efficient seasons of his brief NBA tenure. Once viewed as a long-term option next to Young in Atlanta’s backcourt, Huerter now moves on to Sacramento after a subpar four seasons in Atlanta. His prowess as a sharpshooter afforded him valuable minutes in the rotation, but his inconsistency on both ends of the floor proved to be negative next to the offensive-minded star point guard.
During the first four years of his NBA career, former Maryland basketball star was a valuable piece of the Atlanta Hawks transformation from dungeon-dweller ...
Following a strong performance at the combine, he decided to forgo his remaining eligibility and declare for the 2018 NBA Draft, in which he was selected by the Hawks with the No. 19 pick in the first round. In the return for Huerter, the Hawks are getting two expiring contracts in Holiday and Harkless. They'll make a combined $10.7 million next season before becoming unrestricted free agents in the summer of 2023. Huerter should also be featured more heavily and get more shot attempts with the Kings, so individually it's an opportunity for him to grow. But basketball is a cold business, and after a trade for all-star guard Dejounte Murray made Huerter expendable, the Hawks traded him to the Sacramento Kings on Friday. Rumors had swirled about the Boston Celtics being interested in Huerter, which would have been a far superior landing spot than Sacramento, one of the most consistent losers in professional sports. In return, according to ESPN.s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Hawks received guard Justin Holiday, forward Mo Harkless and a future first-round pick.
The Hawks are trading Kevin Huerter ($14508929 salary) to the Kings for Justin Holiday ($6292440), Maurice Harkless ($4564980) and a first-round pick.
Neither Holiday nor Harkless, both of whom are on expiring contracts, are as good as Huerter. This also explains Sacramento didn’t extend a qualifying offer to Donte DiVincenzo, another lesser wing. Huerter is a good player and just 23. The pathetic, too-likely outcome is the Kings keeps this protected first-round pick while continuing to miss the postseason year after year.
The Atlanta Hawks have reportedly shipped Kevin Huerter to Sacramento for Justin Holiday, Mo Harkless, and a 2024 lottery-protected first-round pick per Ad.

After being traded to the Sacramento Kings, former Atlanta Hawks guard Kevin Huerter had an amusing response on Twitter.
The Kings could be the perfect destination for Huerter to end up, though. It seemed like Atlanta was the perfect place for Huerter… until it wasn’t. Their trade for Dejounte Murray and pursuit of Kevin Durant made him expendable. Kevin Huerter has been one of the better players for the Atlanta Hawks over the last few years.
Adding a player like Huerter is a move Sacramento needed to make more often in the past 15 or so years.
The Hawks just had a tough decision to make and freeing up some money while also adding to your depth is good. He’s also a very capable defender, both on the ball and off it. He can put the ball on the floor and create for himself. Both are guys who can switch multiple positions on the perimeter and help with the ability to recover to shooters on the perimeter. It’s not a knock on Huerter to move him and acquire those players. It’s been a bit of a crowded backcourt for Huerter to navigate in Atlanta the last two seasons, and he still performed quite well. For a player like Huerter who can score, shoot the ball and is a solid enough defender, that’s good long-term value. If they end up conveying the pick in 2024, it means they made the playoffs. This is an opportunistic move by the Kings front office, and on the surface, it’s exactly the type of move that was expected from the Hawks after acquiring Murray. It may even help lead them to another trade if the rumors and conjecture about the Hawks wanting to move on from John Collins are believable. This is the type of move the Kings needed to make more often over the last 15 or so years. Huerter is on a good team- and cap-friendly deal through 2026. Playing Young with Murray and Kevin Huerter or Bogdan Bogdanović together probably wasn’t going to work.

Sacramento has taken steps to address that need, first with the selection of rookie forward Keegan Murray, the No. 4 pick in last week’s NBA draft, and now with the acquisitions of Monk and Huerter. Huerter is a 6-foot-7, 198-pound shooting guard who came out of Maryland as the No. 19 pick in the 2018 NBA draft. Huerter averaged 12.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists for Atlanta last season. He has made 563 3-pointers over his first four NBA seasons. If it does not convey by 2026, the Hawks will instead receive Sacramento’s second-round picks in 2026 and 2027. Harkless, 29, is a 10-year NBA veteran who spent the last two seasons with the Kings. He averaged 4.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in 18.4 minutes per game last season.
Kevin Huerter has had a solid start to his NBA career with the Atlanta Hawks. But on Friday, Huerter experienced for the first time what it is like to be ...
While Huerter will hopefully continue to be impactful with the Kings, leaving his first NBA home – and one where he was well-liked by fans – has to sting. Huerter leaves Atlanta with averages of 11.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 43% from the field and 38% from 3-point range. He also turned in some dramatic NBA Playoff outings, scoring 27 points in a Game 7 win over Philadelphia during 2021 playoffs.
The offseason plan for the Kings is beginning to become clearer after trading for Atlanta Hawks guard Kevin Huerter.
The Kings certainly are hoping they can establish a winning culture over the next year or two to entice Sabonis to sign a long-term extension with Sacramento. Huerter knocked down nearly two catch-and-shoot 3s per game for the Hawks last season at a 41.9 percent clip. And he might not be finished just yet. Huerter, limited by a 6-foot-7 wingspan, is known for his shot much more than his defensive presence. Nothing the Kings gave up in the trade will hurt them. On Thursday, Sacramento signed guard Malik Monk to a two-year deal.
