NBA rumors: Donte DiVincenzo, Warriors agree to two-year, $9.3M ... (NBC Sports Bay Area)

After losing out on Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr., the Warriors reportedly are adding versatile wing Donte DiVincenzo.

With DiVincenzo in the fold, the front office is almost done re-tooling the roster. As Golden State looks to repeat as champs, DiVincenzo likely will lead the second unit when Steph Curry is on the bench. Earlier on Friday, the Warriors also reportedly agreed to bring back center Kevon Looney on a three-year, $25.5 million contract. His numbers after the midseason trade to Sacramento ticked up to 10.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 26.6 minutes over 25 games. DiVincenzo is a career 34.7 3-point shooter but with the Kings, he shot 36.8 percent. Per Charania, the second year of the pact is a player option.

He also has a lot of defensive potential. He has outstanding athleticism, so the Warriors are likely stoked about how he’ll fit in the offensive system as a cutter, shooter, and transition force. The Dubs reportedly signed DiVincenzo to a two-year deal worth $9.3 million, with a player option in the second year.

Warriors, Donte DiVincenzo Agree To Two-Year Deal (hoopsrumors.com)

DiVincenzo is signing a two-year deal worth a reported $9.3MM, with a second-year player option.

They may use that leftover portion to sign second-round pick Ryan Rollins to a three-year contract instead of the maximum two years he could get using the minimum salary exception. That decision made DiVincenzo an unrestricted free agent, meaning the former Villanova standout is free to sign outright with Golden State. DiVincenzo was a full-time starter on the Bucks team that won a championship in 2020/21, averaging 10.4 PPG, 5.8 RPG, and 3.1 APG on .420/.379/.718 shooting in 66 games (27.5 MPG) during that regular season. DiVincenzo played better for the Kings, averaging 10.3 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 3.6 APG with a .368 3PT% in 25 games (26.6 MPG). Gary Payton II, Otto Porter, Nemanja Bjelica, and Juan Toscano-Anderson have all reached agreements with new teams since Thursday evening. It will include a second-year player option, Charania adds.

If Moody doesn't develop as much as needed, the Warriors have a veteran they can rely on as they try to defend their championship. If Moody is as good as the Warriors hope, DiVincenzo becomes a luxury pickup. The Kings ultimately elected not to even give DiVincenzo a qualifying offer, instead signing Malik Monk and trading for Kevin Huerter.

Warriors news: Dubs adds shooting as Donte DiVincenzo inks $9.3 ... (ClutchPoints)

The Golden State Warriors have signed Donte DiVincenzo to a two-year deal worth $9.3 million after losing Porter Jr and Payton II.

DiVincenzo has flashed potential as a 3 and D type player and even got starting opportunities in the earlier years of his career before dealing with numerous injuries. The former Villanova standout won’t likely get any starting minutes for the Warriors but he can definitely serve as a bench piece for the defending champions. In 42 games last season, he averaged 9.0 points, four rebounds, and 2.8 assists while shooting 34% from downtown.

How did Warriors get Donte DiVincenzo and what does he bring to ... (The Athletic)

After losing Gary Payton II in free agency, the Warriors were able to pick up DiVincenzo from the Kings as a replacement.

DiVincenzo supplies that and, because of it, the Warriors were willing to use a chunk of the taxpayer mid-level to secure his services. Davion Mitchell drives left and Poole decides to stick in the paint and show an extra body at Mitchell. DiVincenzo smartly cuts through the lane, flares to the right wing and nails a catch-and-shoot 3, punishing Poole for the mistake. But they needed a seventh or eighth man in the taxpayer mid-level range that fit a need. The Warriors won’t and shouldn’t ask DiVincenzo to operate out of the pick-and-roll. Those opportunities will be left to Curry, Poole and even Wiggins. But he at least has the capability in a late clock scenario. That was a bit too steep for the Warriors. They still have plans on rostering second-round pick Ryan Rollins, a combo guard, and need a chunk of that mid-level to sign him to a multi-year deal. Again, DiVincenzo isn’t near as spectacular a perimeter defender as Payton. The Warriors lost any chance at that level of dynamism when the tax spike became too much for their appetite and they let him walk to Portland. It’s a decision that could haunt them. The Warriors found ways to use him as a high screener, screwing up opponent game plans and causing all sorts of confusion. The Warriors needed to nail down Kevon Looney and find a path toward rotational recovery to make up for the Payton loss. In his 25 games with the Kings, DiVincenzo was the primary defender on the ballhandler in 84 pick-and-roll scenarios, per Synergy. Opponents only scored 78 points in those scenarios. For the first time, they’d failed to retain one of their own due to an unwillingness to meet a financial demand. The difference in the tax penalty — somewhere around $15 million extra in the immediate, a whole lot more throughout a longer-term deal — caused Lacob and the Warriors to balk.

Warriors sign Donte DiVincenzo to 2-year deal (SFGate)

The Golden State Warriors signed Sacramento Kings guard Donte DiVincenzo to a two-year deal on day two of NBA free agency.

Although he has missed significant time due to injury throughout his first four years of play in the NBA, DiVincenzo still offers the potential for solid perimeter shooting and defense, attributes that the Warriors will need in the absence of Otto Porter Jr. and Payton. However, the guard competed in only 42 games, as injuries once again held him back. He was sent to Sacramento in a four-team trade in February 2022.

The Villanova product was picked by the Bucks with the 17th overall selection in the 2018 NBA Draft. DiVincenzo finished the 2021-22 season with the Sacramento Kings after being dealt midseason by the Milwaukee Bucks. Deep-dive: How will Donte DiVincenzo fit with the Warriors? (Golden State of Mind)

On the Kings, teaming up with a highly capable low-post passer such as Domantas Sabonis allowed DiVincenzo to take advantage of defenses’ relative inattention toward him. The Warriors chose savings over a potential $60 million added to their luxury tax bill, and that may cost them on the court down the line. His 16.1% assist rate last season is a career high, perhaps boosted by being on a team that demanded a bit more from him as an on-ball creator. DiVincenzo may not be able to switch up the positional spectrum in the same manner that Payton II could, but his fundamentally sound 1-on-1 defense against matchups he can handle stands out. Shaun Livingston was forced into a life of a journeyman due to a devastating knee injury, before he found his way to the Warriors and became a foundational piece of their dynasty. He averages nearly 7 rebounds per 75 possessions for his career — a huge number for a 6’4” guard. Relative to Payton II, he’s an upgrade in terms of spacing equity. Kevon Looney opted to stay with the organization that drafted him, cultivated his talent, and gives him the comfort of familiarity. During the 2019-20 season, his 2.1 steals per 36 placed him 9th overall, while his steal rate of 2.6% tied him for 7th. Before injuring a ligament in his left ankle during the 2020-21 season, DiVincenzo was one of the more underrated off-ball defenders. The difference is evident when you compare foul rates: DiVincenzo averaged 2.5 fouls per 75 possessions last season, while Payton II averaged nearly 4 fouls per 75 possessions. The Golden State Warriors’ offseason has been somewhat of a bittersweet endeavor.
