Decisions big and small are made at the very top of the Miami Heat's organizational hierarchy, but in Golden State, consensus is built in a more collaborative process (though owner Joe Lacob is still the boss). That exercise usually begins and ends with whom they would've drafted in the first round last week, or which deal they'd execute in ESPN's Trade Machine. The NBA might still be an exceptional business in which winners and losers are decided on a literal playing field, but it has never been more like other multibillion-dollar enterprises.

NBA free agency: Latest Bulls intel on Zach LaVine, Mo Bamba ... (NBC Sports Chicago)

NBA free agency begins Thursday at 5 p.m. Here's the latest intel regarding several storylines surrounding the Bulls.

This isn't to say White is untouchable, just that management envisions a role for the fourth-year guard. The Bulls took calls on him leading up to the draft and asked for a young, rotation player and draft pick in return. The Spurs acquired Gallinari in Wednesday’s trade with the Atlanta Hawks centered on Dejounte Murray. If this deal were to happen, it would likely be in the neighborhood of $7-8 million annually for two years.

NBA free agency: Mo Bamba would be a calculated risk for Houston (Rockets Wire)

What would center Mo Bamba offer to the Rockets, and how would he fit the roster? With Houston reportedly interested, let's take a look.

If something comes along in the 2022 offseason that meets that objective, it would be silly to rule it out — especially if the contract is at a reasonable enough value to where that cap space could be regained with a later trade, as we saw with Theis. In addition to a likely bench role, Bamba would likely be headed to another losing season, in this scenario. Ultimately, with the state the Rockets are in, signing Bamba would make some sense. The Rockets have also been linked to Brooklyn center Nic Claxton, with speculation that Houston could perhaps lure the center by using their full non-taxpayer mid-level exception (NT-MLE), which means a starting salary in the range of $10.5 million annually. It’s also possible that, in a new situation with new coaching, Bamba could benefit from a change of scenery. Bamba averaged 10.6 points and 8.1 rebounds with a 38.1% from the 3-point arc, impressive for a big man, during his first season as a full-time starter.

Welcome to the start of the 2022 NBA free agency period. Tucker is perhaps one of the most coveted veteran players in the league this summer, as his versatility on defense and 3-point shooting can be crucial on a championship-contending team. Not many gaudy deals should be expected this summer because as it stands right now, only five teams are projected to have significant cap space to work with. The NBA has reportedly told teams that the salary cap for next season is projected to be set at $123.6 million, up $11.6 million from last year's $112 million cap figure. NBA free agency will start Thursday at 6 p.m. ET, when teams can start negotiating deals with players. This summer may not have some of the biggest names available as we've seen in the past, but that doesn't mean things won't get truly chaotic.

2022 NBA Free Agency: Any 'Mo' time left for Bamba in Orlando? (Orlando Pinstriped Post)

Sure, the early summer started out with a bang, with the Magic winning the NBA's Draft Lottery in mid-May. And yes, selecting forward Paolo Banchero first ...

Besides Bamba and Bol, the Magic will also be potentially losing two unrestricted free agents - Lopez and veteran sharp-shooting wing Gary Harris (who was traded to the Magic in March of 2021 in the Aaron Gordon deal). Harris (27) averaged 11.1 points per game for Orlando last season, shooting 38.4 percent from beyond the arc. The odds may be stacked against the Magic when it comes to contending next season, but could losing Bamba and Harris potentially set Orlando back even further? But without the extension of the qualifying offer, the former Magic lottery pick is now an unrestricted free agent. At just $1.88 million for next season, it would be a shock if the older Wagner brother was waived over the next twelve hours. Orlando will be providing and devoting as many ‘reps’, minutes, and developmental opportunities to their core group of young players as possible during the 2022-23 season, but bringing in the right veteran (or two) through free agency to balance the team’s ecosystem can still potentially go along way. Rumors have connected Bamba to interested teams such as the Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, and New York Knicks (among others). The most pressing concern for the Magic when it comes to free agency this week is center Mo Bamba’s contract situation. Big man Moritz Wagner, who played admirably for Orlando last season when many players were unavailable, has a non-guaranteed contract that will become fully guaranteed if he’s still on the roster after today. That is to be expected of a rebuilding team that is still far away from competing, and therefore doesn’t have the same appeal when it comes to signing veteran free agents as some other organizations around the league. Currently, DraftKings Sportsbook lists Orlando’s future odds to win the NBA Championship next season at +200,000, tied for the worst odds in the NBA. A part of Bamba’s game that really started to emerge this past season was his perimeter shooting. The Harlem, NY native was set to become a restricted free agent this summer, but things abruptly changed yesterday afternoon when news broke via Khobi Price of the Orlando Sentinel that the Magic would not be extending Bamba a qualifying offer ($10.1 million for the 2022-23 season). As a restricted free agent, Orlando would have had the ability to match any offer that Bamba agreed to with another organization.

Welcome to the start of the 2022 NBA free agency period. Tucker is perhaps one of the most coveted veteran players in the league this summer, as his versatility on defense and 3-point shooting can be crucial on a championship-contending team. The fit is a little odd, but this isn't the gross overpay that many are making it out to be. The Brunson contract has been met largely with derision, and it's understandable on some level. Tucker played well for the Heat last season, but he's already 37 years old. Perhaps the Magic signed Bamba to try and move him down the road. The team didn't miss a beat when Ja Morant was out thanks to the heady play of Jones. The idea of him as a stretch big who can block some shots is extremely valuable. He's also one of the smarter defenders in the league. Mills fulfilled a vital role for the Nets last season. Tate is one of the better young players that you've never heard of. Bagley had a great draft pedigree as one of the best high school recruits in the country and the no. Brown is still sort of young -- He'll be 23 to start the season. Claxton is a young big who can move decently on the perimeter and protect the rim well.

Tucker is perhaps one of the most coveted veteran players in the league this summer, as his versatility on defense and 3-point shooting can be crucial on a championship-contending team. As the Brooklyn Nets try to figure out a future without Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, one potential option is trading the two stars in a package deal. In fact, he'll likely have his pick of contenders to play for, assuming he wants to chase a ring -- something still missing from his resume. They want to continue to play together, but the sense is they don't want to do it together in Brooklyn anymore." After stints with the Milwaukee Bucks and Miami Heat, PJ Tucker's tour of the Eastern Conference will continue next season with the Philadelphia 76ers, per Shams Charania. Tucker will receive a fully guaranteed deal worth $33.2 million over three years. One of Oklahoma City's key young pieces is returning next season as the team is signing Lu Dort to a five-year, $87.5 million deal, per Adrian Wojnarowski. Dort was OKC's second-leading scorer last season, averaging 17.2 points and 4.2 rebounds. He averaged 10.6 points over 15 games in the playoffs, including a 23-point outing against the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the East finals. The Knicks already pulled off their big move of the offseason when it was announced that Jalen Brunson will be leaving the Mavericks for the blue and orange. After signs pointed toward Oladipo not returning to the Heat, that has changed as he'll sign a one-year deal with the team to remain in Miami. Though Oladipo only played in eight regular season games last season with the Heat, he became an important piece of the bench for Miami in their run to the Eastern Conference finals. The 2021-22 season and NBA Draft are both in the books, and now all eyes are on the start of free agency. Assuming he can come back from this injury, he'll be a nice option for the Bucks off the bench The NBA has reportedly told teams that the salary cap for next season is projected to be set at $123.6 million, up $11.6 million from last year's $112 million cap figure.

Harden declined his $47.3 million option to reportedly work with the Sixers on a new deal that would give the team more financial flexibility to make improvements to the roster this offseason. Joe Ingles has agreed on a one-year, $6.5 million contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to Yahoo Sports. Ingles tore the ACL in his left knee in February when he was with the Utah Jazz and missed the rest of the season. But look for the Mavs to made every effort to re-sign Brunson. He declined his $4.6 million option Wednesday in the hopes of landing a lucrative long-term deal, and the bet on himself paid off. However, teams with money to spend probably shouldn't get their hopes up about signing James Harden or Bradley Beal to a big, splashy contract once free agency opens. Portis has agreed to re-sign with the Milwaukee Bucks on a four-year, $49 million deal. Highly-sought forward P.J. Tucker is heading to Philadelphia after agreeing to terms on three-year, $33.2 million deal with the Sixers, his agent Andre Buck told USA TODAY Sports' Jeff Zillgitt. The Sixers will be Tucker's fourth team in four seasons. The 6-10 forward has been a key rotation player for the Bucks the past two seasons, including during their run to the 2021 championship. Veteran guard Patty Mills is returning to the Brooklyn Nets with a slight raise. Shortly after, he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of a three-team deal. It won't be a surprise to see more of the same this summer. Who will be on the move for the 2022-23 season?

Perhaps more importantly, his 3-point volume has steadily increased to an average of 4.9 attempts per game over the past two seasons. The way Arenas tells it, an executive for one of the NBA’s major market teams told flight attendants to replace the junk food on the plane with more wholesome options. Strictly speaking, teams aren’t allowed to pay players more than the official value of a contract, but fringe benefits are a gray area. He’s talking about the annoying little things — like extra tickets to games and other random expenses a player detests dealing with. Take care of ‘em and they’ll return the love. NBA Free Agency Tracker 2022: Live Updates; Jalen Brunson to ... (Rotowire)

Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks kicked off the craziness that is the start of NBA free agency.

The center managed to lead his team to the postseason for the second time in his career. Expect the veteran to see a minor role behind Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Roby and Derrick Favors. The center has played with four teams over the course of the last two seasons, spending time with the Cavaliers, Lakers, Sixers and Nets, most recently. Fantasy analysis: After flaming out in New York, Knox spent the end of last season in Atlanta but failed to make a tangible impact. Reed is unlikely to be much of a fantasy impact player in 2022-23, but he'll once again compete to carve out a consistent role off the bench. He's coming off a career year with the Kings, where he averaged 8.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 18.2 minutes. Splitting last season between the Lakers and 76ers, the veteran averaged 4.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 13.0 minutes. His role will presumably be reduced next season with the team expected to start the year healthy. Fantasy analysis: A key role player for the Warriors over the last two seasons, Toscano-Anderson will head south to LA to provide much-needed depth for a top-heavy roster. Fantasy analysis: Jones has proven to be crucial as a backup to Ja Morant, and the two can share the court when needed. Fantasy analysis: Tucker proved what he needed to last season on a one-year, $7 million contract with the Heat, where he averaged 7.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 27.9 minutes. He'll likely rotate with Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson – assuming he returns – and the rest of the Knicks' frontcourt in 2022-23.

NBA free agency winners and losers: Knicks reach for Jalen ... (CBSSports.com)

It wasn't free agency. technically, that bit Brooklyn, but on Thursday Kevin Durant issued a trade request. Once Durant goes, Kyrie Irving will likely follow.

If he does it wouldn't be the worst thing to go to a Nets team that is still going to be pretty good this year with whatever they get back for Durant with a ton of picks to get even better in the coming years to build around Booker. Life is good. What this comes down to is whether the Lakers can find a way to land Kyrie Irving. If they do, the offseason is a win. Listen, good for Brunson, but I just don't think he's a good enough player to commit this kind of money to for the next four years. They could've exercised the $1.9 million team option they had in place for Dort this season. Also, good on the Thunder for rewarding Dort with this money a year before they had to. They finally conceded to reality and recently traded Dejounte Murray to the Hawks for a bunch of first-round picks, signaling a fresh start. Simple: Simons doesn't have to be the best player on the Blazers. He's got Damian Lillard for that. So why do I think the $100M Portland gave Simons over four years is a win but consider the $105M that the Knicks gave Brunson over the same amount of time to be a loss? For a guy who was taken in the second round in 2018, this is a windfall. James Harden hasn't signed his new contract yet, but he obviously agreed to give up enough annual salary for the Sixers to afford P.J. Tucker, whom they signed for just over $33 million over three years. Brunson is set for life, and the icing on the cake is het gets to play for his father, Rick Brunson, who recently accepted an assistant coaching position with the Knicks. On to the signings.

But with Jokic leading the way, and committed to the team long term, the Nuggets have a chance. A run to the Western Conference finals in the bubble in 2020 helped introduce him to a larger audience, and everything coalesced the last two seasons with back-to-back MVP awards. Ayton is seeking a max deal and the Phoenix Suns seem ready to move on from the 23-year-old big man after drafting him No. 1 overall four years ago.

5 players, $1.1 billion: NBA free agency starts with a bang (WOKV)

Nikola Jokic agreed to the biggest contract in NBA history, Bradley Beal agreed to a deal worth a quarter-billion dollars, and the money just kept flowing.

Tucker agreed Thursday to a three-year deal with the 76ers for $33 million. McGee has played for eight NBA teams and is heading to Dallas for a second time; he played 34 games there in 2015-16. Anfernee Simons, who had a breakout season for the injury-plagued Portland Trail Blazers last year — taking advantage of his opportunity, and then some — agreed to a four-year, $100 million contract to remain with that club. Bobby Portis (four years, $49 million) is returning to Milwaukee, and the Bucks are adding veteran guard Joe Ingles as well. The Magic are also keeping center Mo Bamba on a two-year deal. The minimum team salary level is $111.29 million and the exceptions were set as wel. He had earned about $6 million, total, in his four seasons with the Dallas Mavericks and saw his value soar by averaging 21.6 points in 18 playoff games this past season. The non-taxpayer mid-level is $10.49 million, taxpayer mid-level is $6.479 million, and the mid-level for a team with room under the cap is $5.401 million. All those moves, even the biggest-money ones, were overshadowed by a piece of non-free-agent news that came earlier Thursday when Kevin Durant, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation, told the Brooklyn Nets that he wanted a trade. Morant will sign his first rookie extension, one that'll be worth at least $193 million and could reach the $230 million range, according to Tandem Sports, which represents him. Shortly after midnight Friday in the Eastern time zone, three more players — Karl-Anthony Towns, Devin Booker and Ja Morant — also agreed to huge-money extensions. The final number may go up slightly depending on what the league's salary cap is going into the '23-24 season and if it exceeds current projections.

NBA Offseason 2022: June 30 roundup (NBA.com)

Keep up with the latest news and reports from around the league as the offseason rolls along.

While free agency opens today, there are some non-free agents to pay attention too this summer as well. Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports the Lakers will target Otto Porter Jr., Nicolas Batum, Gary Harris, TJ Warren, Caleb Martin, Cody Martin, Mo Bamba and Danuel House Jr. with their full taxpayer midlevel exception. As a part of a three-team, Draft-night trade, New York Knicks guard Kemba Walker was reportedly dealt to the Detroit Pistons. However, he will not be with Detroit for long. Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes reported that Dallas Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson will meet with the Mavs, New York Knicks and Miami Heat once free agency opens. Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden reportedly opted out of his deal last night, but he is expected to re-sign at a lower rate to help the team. Former All-Star center Andre Drummond is also an unrestricted free agent this summer and, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post, the Nets are showing interest in both big men. With four years on his contract, there's no shortage of teams willing to unload assets for Durant. He was even better in the 2022 playoffs, averaging 21.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg and 3.7 apg as Dallas made the Western Conference finals. Instead, Monk gets a higher payday with Sacramento after averaging 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists (all career highs) while shooting 47.3% from the field (39.1% on 3s). Last season, Beal averaged 23.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 6.6 assists in 40 games for the Wizards. He is a three-time All-Star and made the All-NBA Third Team in 2020-21. The season before that, he guided the Suns to their first NBA Finals berth since 1993. Jokic averaged 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game and led the NBA with 19 triple-doubles in becoming the 13th player in NBA history to record back-to-back MVPs.

NBA free agency Day 1 winners and losers: Knicks reach for Jalen ... (CBSSports.com)

Also, Nikola Jokic secured a record bag, and the Warriors lost Gary Payton II to Portland.

They could've exercised the $1.9 million team option they had in place for Dort this season. Also, good on the Thunder for rewarding Dort with this money a year before they had to. Listen, good for Brunson, but I just don't think he's a good enough player to commit this kind of money to for the next four years. Simple: Simons doesn't have to be the best player on the Blazers. He's got Damian Lillard for that. They finally conceded to reality and recently traded Dejounte Murray to the Hawks for a bunch of first-round picks, signaling a fresh start. For a guy who was taken in the second round in 2018, this is a windfall. So why do I think the $100M Portland gave Simons over four years is a win but consider the $105M that the Knicks gave Brunson over the same amount of time to be a loss? James Harden hasn't signed his new contract yet, but he obviously agreed to give up enough annual salary for the Sixers to afford P.J. Tucker, whom they signed for just over $33 million over three years. Brunson is set for life, and the icing on the cake is het gets to play for his father, Rick Brunson, who recently accepted an assistant coaching position with the Knicks. On to the signings.

It’s nice that they kept Nic Claxton and Patty Mills on Thursday … but things are about to fall very much apart even if they end up with a decent roster by the end of the summer. But the Hawks are better after the Dejounte Murray trade. And now, he’s got another $33.2 million coming his way in the next three years from Philly, thanks to his old Rockets GM Daryl Morey. He’s already got a ring from the Bucks in 2021. A top contender playing things very smart. Yeah, it was a lot.

Grade: A Grade: A Grade: A Grade: A This is also a nice payday for Jones, still only 26 years old, that will allow him to hit the market again while he’s still in his prime. This is a nice pay raise for Portis, and a good decision to stick with Giannis and a fan base that loves him. Isaiah Hartenstein, New York Knicks agree to two-year, $16 million deal, per Shams: Hartenstein was incredibly productive on a per-minute basis last year with the Clippers. He provides great rim protection on defense, and connective passing and efficient finishing on offense. Tucker is older now — he’ll be 37 all season — and looked like he was slowing down recently before having a really impressive season last year in Miami. This feels like a lot of money for someone his age, but Joel Embiid had mentioned adding someone like Tucker by name, and Philly is all-in on the present. Robinson certainly has the talent to live up to this deal, but there’s also a chance this looks like an overpay in the future. Harris quietly had something of a return to form season last year as a three-and-D wing. It will be fascinating to see if he can keep improving with a bigger workload now that he’s away from Doncic. We’re skeptical this move changes a ton for the Knicks in the big picture sense, but the deal covers Brunson’s prime years and he’s a solid bet to be productive, if not an absolute superstar. He had a major bounce back year for Golden State this past season, and it will be fascinating to see if he can stay healthy and engaged in a different environment.

NBA Offseason 2022: July 1 roundup (NBA.com)

Keep up with the latest news and reports from around the league as the offseason rolls along.

New Orleans Pelicans big man Zion Williamson and the team are nearing an agreement on a five-year, $231 million extension, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic. Williamson played in 24 games as a rookie, then 65 games in his second year — and zero games this season, when the Pelicans overcame a 1-12 start to finish 36-46, then win two Play-In Tournament games and make the playoffs. The deal is worth at least $193 million and potentially up to $231 million. Last season he averaged 8.5 ppg, 8.6 rpg and 1.8 bpg and has averaged 2.0 bpg or more in two of his first four NBA seasons. The Toronto Raptors have re-signed Thaddeus Young to a contract extension, the team announced Friday. Last season, he averaged 6.3 ppg and 4.4 rpg with Toronto after being acquired from the San Antonio Spurs at the trade deadline. Dallas is keeping reserve swingman Theo Pinson, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, after he and the Mavs agreed to a one-year deal. The Toronto Raptors have added some 3-point shooting and defense to their mix, per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Swingman Otto Porter Jr. has agreed to a two-year deal with the Raptors after playing a vital role on the Golden State Warriors’ championship team last season. Chicago got off to a big start and finished with its best record since the 2014-15 team went 50-32 in former coach Tom Thibodeau’s final season. The Sacramento Kings have picked up a 3-point shooter and young talent in Kevin Huerter via a trade with the Atlanta Hawks, per multiple reports. Brogdon signed with the Pacers as a free agent in 2018 but has struggled with injuries since joining Indiana. Last season, he was limited to 36 games, but he enjoyed a career-best scoring season (19.1 ppg) while also posting 5.1 rpg, 5.9 apg and shooting 44.8% overall. He posted 5.8 ppg and 7.6 rpg in the playoffs and 5.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg in the 2022 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics. Free agent Nemanja Bjelica is leaving the Golden State Warriors to play in Turkey with Fenerbahce, per reports. Utah acquired a 2023 first-round pick from the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday in exchange for Royce O’Neale. Gobert has been a perennial All-Star with averages of 15 points and 13.9 rebounds over the last three seasons.

Grading Biggest Deals From 2022 NBA Free Agency Day 2 (Bleacher Report)

We saw Nikola Jokic, Bradley Beal, Karl-Anthony Towns and Devin Booker sign deals worth at least $200 million to stay with their teams, while Ja Morant, ...

Indiana is bringing him back on a two-year deal, per The Athletic's Shams Charania. He will spearhead fast breaks after grabbing defensive rebounds, dart in for passes from the corners and skedaddle around longer defenders when attacking the basket. The Warriors were already staring down a $68.8 million tax bill, however, one that will grow exponentially with Looney back. Although we haven't seen much of Wall lately (he's played 40 total games since 2018), he still had some burst during his time with the Rockets in 2020-21. His swing rating of plus-15.2 ranked in the 98th percentile among all NBA players last season, per Cleaning the Glass. Even if LaVine isn't viewed in the upper echelon of stars and could still make some major defensive improvements, he was worth maxing out for Chicago now. He was one of just five players (along with Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Kyrie Irving) to average at least 24 points, four rebounds, four assists and shoot 38.0 percent or better from three. While this isn't terrible money at $15 million per year, it does seem a little rich given Robinson's four years of production to this point. The Cavs were 9.0 points per 100 possessions better with him on the floor last season as well. He's a physical force of nature who averaged 27.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists and shot 61.1 percent over 61 games in 2020-21. With Day 2 already off to a big start with news of what could be the third-largest contract in NBA history being agreed to, here are grades for the latest free-agent deals. In addition to missing the entire 2021-22 season, he played in just 85 total games over his first two seasons.

NBA free agency: Jazz trade Rudy Gobert to Timberwolves (Los Angeles Times)

Rudy Gobert has been traded by the Utah Jazz to the Minnesota for a huge package of players and draft picks while Zach LaVine will re-sign with Bulls.

Nurkic just completed his eighth NBA season, the last six of those coming with the Trail Blazers, for whom he averaged 15 points and 11.1 rebounds this past season. Yet his relationship with All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell was always scrutinized and a series of disappointing playoff exits led to the annual question of whether the two could coexist on a title-contending team. Gallinari was sent to San Antonio this week in a trade that brought All-Star guard Dejounte Murray to Atlanta. —Forward Danilo Gallinari, according to a person familiar with his decision, intends to sign a two-year deal with the Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics — once his waiving by the San Antonio Spurs is completed. Rudy Gobert has been traded by the Utah Jazz to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a massive package of players and draft picks, a person with knowledge of the blockbuster deal said. Minnesota struck the deal less than 24 hours after coming to an agreement on a $224-million, four-year extension with Towns, who is now under contract for the next six years.
