What is a Blue Alert

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has issued a statewide Blue Alert for a man that is suspected of shooting a Tennessee police officer.

According to the TBI, he has brown eyes and brown hair. Edwards is wanted for attempted criminal homicide, evading arrest and attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer after he shot a Hendersonville police officer during a pursuit, according to the TBI and Metro Nashville Police Department. He is described as 5 foot 11 inches and weighs 160 pounds.

Samuel Quinton Edwards, 34, is wanted after a Hendersonville police officer was shot during a chase in Madison on Monday night, police said.

TBI issued a "blue alert" Tuesday morning as the hunt for Edwards continued, saying he is wanted by both MNPD and TBI for attempted criminal homicide and evading arrest. The interstate fully reopened later in the day. Officials widely shared details about Edwards and the truck, including its license plate number. A TDOT spokesperson confirmed the shutdown was tied to a "wanted suspect" in the area. "We are asking everyone in the area to be vigilant as the suspect has not been apprehended," Millersville police said in a Facebook post shared around 8:55 a.m. "He should be considered armed and very dangerous," the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a tweet Tuesday.
