Completes a clutch slant pass for a solid gain, then runs for a first down on the next play. New Jersey proceeded to win its next nine games that included two wins against the Stars. Cookus led the Stars in rushing (averaging 9.8 yards-per-carry) while scoring the game's first TD on an eight-yard run. Johnson's words proved to be prophetic, as Philadelphia's defense stuffed Victory on fourth-and-goal from the 7-yard-line at the end of the first half. Bolden's 90-yard return gave the Stallions a 21-14 halftime lead. A former Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year, Smith scored two touchdowns while leading an offense that scored on 13, 14 and 15-play drives. USFL playoffs: 'Hard Time' shines as Stars march to title game (FOXSports.com)

Maurice Alexander followed KaVontae Turpin's punt return TD with his own, lifting the Stars to the USFL title game, RJ Young writes.

Cookus took a shot to his lower back that saw him join Colburn in the injury tent, and on the Stars' next defensive play, cornerback Channing Stribling needed to leave with an ankle injury. The game looked tailored for the Generals to use their No. 1 rushing offense to run out the clock. With De'Andre Johnson in at quarterback for the Generals, Riley dialed up an out-and-up against man-coverage that former North Dakota State wide receiver Darius Shepherd caught for 63 yards to put New Jersey inside the red zone. Turpin enjoyed just three touches and one reception in the half for nine total yards. Philly's Matt Colburn left in the third quarter with a knee injury. At halftime, those two turnovers had proven to be the difference in the game. It was the second time he returned a punt for a touchdown this season. Two plays later, Cookus counted the box and saw there were just five men in front of him. He led the league in receiving yards with 44 catches for 596 yards. A hit by Ralph Holley on Perez, however, was briefly flagged for roughing the passer. "He watches [KaVontae] Turpin do a great job running one back and says, ‘Hold my beer.’ It's pretty cool that he was able to do that." My grandmama was there through the whole time, and she named me ‘Hard Time.’"

Dr. Daniel Sutter: The USFL and labor markets - Yellowhammer News (Yellowhammer News)

The reborn United States Football League has completed its first regular season. USFL players made $4500 per game, or $45000 for the season.

The NFL reservation salary for talented young players, if we could erase all expectations of playing for millions, is close to zero. Owners and players will maneuver to capture these rents for themselves. The original USFL “discovered” players who later played in the NFL, like undersized linebacker and 2022 Hall of Famer Sam Mills. Some USFL players may get NFL tryouts based on their play and baseball players earn little in the minors. The factors affecting the minimum someone requires to play football, the reservation salary (or wage), illustrate how the USFL can pay such lower salaries. Any factor of production in the economy can earn rent.

Four USFL stars with best chance to make NFL roster (NBC Sports - Misc.)

Which USFL players will we see in the NFL this fall? These four stars could find themselves on a roster this fall.

By the end of the season, he was the only USFL player with over 100. And he showed his game-breaking abilities over the weekend with a punt return touchdown against Philadelphia in the semifinals. He had always been a “hand on the ground” defensive end, but in Green Bay’s scheme, defensive ends Clay Matthews and Nick Perry stood up, often looking like outside linebackers. Odom led the league in sacks and forced fumbles. The Seahawks flew in Corbin for a workout late in 2021, but when he tested positive for Covid upon arrival in Seattle. Instead of going to the facility to try out, he went to a hotel. He spent some time on the Washington practice squad that year and went to training camp with San Francisco in 2021 but didn’t make the team. I’m on a mission to get back to an NFL 53.” But Corbin didn’t play in a game of any kind from 2020 until the USFL this spring. For a week and half, he waited for the green light. “The potential for these players lies in the back end of an NFL roster, which is constantly being overturned.” With his RB expertise, I asked, “Which running back impressed you the most this season?” He answered quickly: Reggie Corbin. They potentially fill the same roster spot and play the same role for more money.

FMIA Guest: Paul Burmeister On USFL Being A 'Fork In The Road ... (NBC Sports)

Peter King's Football Morning In America has a guest author today. Paul Burmeister writes about all things USFL and the new football league.

I had a good amount of experience calling events on television, football in particular, and a real desire to get the job. Chris sees a deficiency when the pocket starts to collapse around Brady, and Chris feels Brady’s reaction in that moment is not as good as those ranked ahead of him. Usually there’s a top 10 team on one side of the field, a team on the other side that would LOVE to beat Notre Dame, and a stadium full of people excited to see it. This kind of job offers something you don’t always have in the booth: a connection to a team. But if the time comes and goes without a good opportunity to be on an NFL roster, he wants those players to sign with the USFL. In the NFL, the average success of a 4th and 15 play is 11 percent. And because of that, the offensive execution for the first part of the season suffered. The Seahawks flew in Corbin for a workout late in 2021, but when he tested positive for Covid upon arrival in Seattle. Instead of going to the facility to try out, he went to a hotel. “What was the disconnect between their talent, and their ability to stay in the NFL? Note taking? Instead of waiting around for a phone to buzz, and players spending their time lifting and running and hoping, the USFL offered a chance to actually play football. And the USFL paid players to do it. I was in Birmingham in early April, a couple weeks before the season started, to gather info and develop relationships.
