She called the bloodhound breed “an underdog,” which is fine as a pun though it doesn’t quite capture Trumpet’s substantial heft. Trumpet is the first of his breed to ever win Westminster in the competition’s 146-year history. Buehner told the Times she was “shocked” Trumpet won, generously complimenting the “seven beautiful dogs in that ring.” True, but Trumpet’s astounding jowls put him a notch above the rest.

Last night, Trumpet the Bloodhound took home the Best in Show title at the 146th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show presented by Purina ProPlan.

The Bloodhound Club of America says a 7th-century monk in France began breeding these types of dogs for hunting purposes. Be ready for lots of drool if you adopt a Bloodhound! It’s also necessary to help them groom themselves on a daily basis. Last night, Trumpet the Bloodhound took home the Best in Show title at the 146th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show presented by Purina ProPlan. This is a big deal, people! Despite their lumbering appearance, Bloodhounds are active and playful dogs who need lots of exercise and attention. Last year a French Bulldog won Best of Group (they are Non-Sporting pups). Could 2023 be their year? Buehner, who was also Trumpet’s handler in the ring, told the New York Times, “There were seven beautiful dogs in that ring.

The competition drew more than 3,000 purebred dogs, ranging from affenpinschers to Yorkshire terriers. "He's a joy to be around," Fox said by phone before Winston's award. He comes from a family of winners. He examined some decorative flowers that had been set up for the pictures, not appearing to find anything of note.
