The Umbrella Academy season 3 ending explained (spoilers) (Netflix Life)

The Umbrella Academy season 3 had a lot going on so we're recapping the entire ending. What happens at Hotel Oblivion and at the very end?

It could mean that with the timeline reset, Sloane is wherever she would have been had Reginald not adopted her, but then surely the same thing would have happened to this new version of Ben? Does that mean Allison is now in another timeline from the rest of her family? It looks like Reginald fulfilled whatever end of the deal he made with Allison, which is interesting because Reginald looked ready to betray Allison at Hotel Oblivion (he did not know Klaus would make it, and if Klaus hadn’t, then I assume Allison would have had to become the seventh bell). Her arms is still wrapped and she looks exactly the same as she did when we last saw her, contrary to her siblings, like Diego and Five, who were reset and had their limbs back and no cuts or anything. And Sloane is M.I.A. Luther immediately panics when he realizes his wife is not among the rest and goes off looking for her. Then, at the very end of the season, we see Reginald and Abigail standing in a skyscraper, holding hands as they look over the city (it’s very reminiscent of the Fight Club ending). In a flashback to the time Luther spent on the moon, we see Abigail contained at a secret base. When Allison sees what Reginald is doing to her siblings, she finally regains her senses and attacks him, killing him with a discarded guardian weapon. We find out that even the new Reginald, who appeared nicer than the old one, is still manipulative and cruel, willing to sacrifice his children to get what he wants. Since Reginald kills Luther and prevents Klaus from escaping with the rest of his family, it looked like they were done for. Actually, we only know for sure Ben is alive, even Sloane’s fate is left up in the air at the end. Despite all the build-up to the Sparrow Academy, it doesn’t really last long.

Umbrella Academy Season 3 is a compelling — but overly ... (CBC.ca)

The Umbrella Academy's third season — which premiered on Netflix Wednesday — is a compelling, but overly complicated, sequel for the superhero family drama.

So while Umbrella Academy has firmly differentiated itself from other superhero fare, adding more complexity and more characters to a story already drowning in them causes the show to suffer. In both the first and second seasons, he was driven by a struggle to learn about his past, control his otherworldly power and find a home in his family. To that effect, we see virtually every character get a moment with Viktor, now one of the most high-profile trans characters ever on TV, accept him and move on. But though the end result is a similarly irreverent storyline, full of all the offbeat comedy and mind-bending plot choices of past seasons, it almost gets crushed under its own weight. And yes, it is becoming a crowded field, but I still think we managed to be something different than the other shows out there." Way back when The Umbrella Academy first premiered in 2019, there was already a bit of an image problem.

'The Umbrella Academy' review: Hargreeves siblings face off against ... (Mashable)

The third season of Netflix's "The Umbrella Academy" may be the show's best outing yet, but it falls into the patterns of its predecessors.

Despite this, the third season of The Umbrella Academy is a winner, one that Brellies everywhere will enjoy. Don't get me wrong, those are still engaging tropes (and I love a good dance party), but after three seasons, it makes you wonder about the direction of the show — especially when we don't have closure on questions that were raised in Season 2 and even Season 1. This Ben is a far cry from the one we grew to know and love. Lucky for us, Season 3 avoids that pitfall (for the most part), keeping the Hargreeves' adventures feeling fresh with powerful new character developments and a fun set of villains to face off against. Among the season's biggest developments is Viktor's (Elliot Page) transition, which the show addresses early on and treats with an immense amount of care. The Umbrella Academy is back, reuniting us with the superpowered Hargreeves siblings and their super-sized daddy issues.

Umbrella Academy season 3: All the Sparrow Academy powers ... (PopBuzz)

From Sloane, Fei and Christopher, to Jayme, Marcus, Alphonso and the new Ben, here's all the Sparrow Academy powers explained.

Alphonso’s powers are revealed when he challenges Allison to hit him during the fight at the Sparrow Academy in episode 1. Christopher's origins are still a mystery, but according to his character description, he can "turn the room freezing cold and induce paralysing fear." Fei is able to manifest the ravens from within her whenever she needs – for sight and to attack the enemy. Here are all seven members of the Sparrow Academy, and their powers, explained. He takes on a much more prominent role in the Sparrow Academy and is very self-assured (although, some would say 'arrogant'). The Umbrella Academy who!?

After his night with Sloane, Luther is seen dancing on his way home. The Umbrella's No. 1 is madly in love and wants everyone to know it.

Lila and Five manage to fix the briefcase and are transported to a wintery wonderland dystopia. The guests start to flee, and that strange man, Lester, strides into the mayhem. The Sparrows turn back on their promise and attack the Umbrellas instead, with Sloane trying to warn Luther by mouthing the word ‘run’. Diego’s son Stanley rushes into the fray with a Molotov cocktail and sets fire to the hotel. The Umbrellas want the suitcase in exchange for the Sparrow’s No. 1. The Umbrella siblings hunt for answers, and the Sparrows fight dirty. The Umbrella siblings hunt for answers, and the Sparrows fight dirty. The show seems to be successfully duplicating The Guardians of the Galaxy’s mantra of crazy characters, hilarious banter and the odd instances of sweetness. Klaus waits until the Sparrows have flown and then bonds with his father over old movies and ice cream. Time-hopping Five has also noticed the vanishing bodies and worries that the end is nigh. He stops off at a newsstand to buy some condoms, and one of those deadly shockwaves courses through the neighborhood again. In The Umbrella Academy’s universe, the paradox has already occurred, though, now in full swing with the angry, red vortex, a clear sign that all is not well in this timeline. Five mentioned the Grandfather Paradox at the end of episode two and chapter three, “Pocket Full of Lightning”, opens with an in-depth explanation of this complex notion, told in hilarious fashion.

Spoiler Alert ; Elliot Page as Viktor Hargreeves, Justin Cornwell as Marcus. Christos Kalohoridis/Netflix © 2022 ; The Umbrella Academy. Justin H. Min as Ben ...

Anyway, it all culminates in the Sparrows showing up at Hotel Obsidian, ready to attack the Umbrella members for, they think, kidnapping Marcus. (They don’t know about the Kugelblitz.) All of a sudden, a mysterious man who’s been shown at random intervals throughout the episodes defends them, burning a few Sparrows to a crisp. Allison ( Emmy Raver-Lampman) has now suffered a major loss with every timeline jump—her daughter in the first, and her husband in the second. In Episode 3 they discover this is a “Kugelblitz,” a series of interconnected collapsing dark holes that materialized as a result of them being in a timeline where they were never meant to exist. (At least Five and Klaus got to go on a fun road trip in Episode 2 to try and find Klaus’ Amish mom, though!) And even though Viktor manages to make a deal with their Number One, Marcus ( Justin Cornwell), to retrieve the briefcase, he’s never able to hand it over…because Marcus is sucked into a mysterious glowing orb that’s materialized in the Sparrow Academy’s basement. They’re all set with a new base of operations, and everything’s fine enough on the surface that Five (Aidan Gallagher) is considering retiring. To be fair, this is a show known for going a little (or a lot) crazy—we’ve already had talking monkey butlers, a robot mom, a mannequin girlfriend, and a main character becoming a cult leader.

We hear a fictional antidote where a kid named Elmer decides to go back in time to kill his grandfather, only he went back way too far and changed the timeline so that he no longer existed. The Kugelblitz has already started taking out the Commission with its “Kugel waves” as Five later dubs them. When Marcus Hargreeves (Justin Cornwell) goes missing, the Sparrows think the Umbrellas had something to do with it. This time around, the Umbrellas are faced with a threat they never imagined possible — another set of siblings. As you probably remember, the season 2 finale ended on a major cliffhanger with the Umbrellas defeating the Commission and time traveling back to their present-day world.

As the episode ends, the blob sends a shockwave across the city, apparently obliterating both Marcus and one very cute dog at the Hotel Obsidian. After all, what would a new season of The Umbrella Academy be without another apocalyptic threat? For now, at least, open warfare doesn’t serve anybody, which is good news for anyone who wants to know more about the Sparrows than their superpowers (and good news for Netflix’s stunt budget because that opening fight looked expensive). It’s Vanya, with characteristic pragmatism, that negotiates a détente. When Marcus comes in with threats, Vanya offers a calm but firm reply: “I don’t think you’re better than me, Marcus. I ended the world twice. But as fun as it is to watch this family bicker, the Sparrows still pose a threat. This is an ideal location for characters like Five and Diego to argue about what they should do next and for Allison and Vanya to swap memories and sympathies about the lovers they left behind in 1963. And while the Umbrellas put up a decent fight, they’re no match for the Sparrows. When the dust settles, our heroes run away to lick their wounds, leaving their very useful time-travel briefcase behind.

What Happened In <i>The Umbrella Academy</i> Season 3 Finale ... (HarpersBAZAAR.com)

Umbrella Academy's Season 3 finale was full of surprises. What happened to Allison, Luther, Diego, Viktor, Five, Sloane, Ben, and Klaus in the final ...

The sigil features seven stars, and Reginald instructs seven of the Hargreeves children to stand on the markers. After all, Klaus suggests earlier in the episode that heaven looks different for everyone, and Allison has made it clear that her life is nothing without Claire and Ray. Only time will tell what has really happened to Allison, though, as anything can happen in The Umbrella Academy. Then her husband from the 1960s, Ray, appears in the doorway and says, "It's where you were always meant to be." Justifying the fact that "he's killing them," Reginald tells Allison, "Everything in life has a price." A red button appears on the screen, and despite her family begging her not to, Allison presses it. Seeing his anatomy, it's revealed that Reginald isn't human (something viewers already knew), and he falls to the floor dead. Luther tries to convince Klaus to return to save the rest of their family. Ghost Luther berates his father for leaving him on the moon for so long, and then killing him. In this timeline, Reginald adopted a completely different group of children, with Ben being the only member of both groups. Here's what happened in The Umbrella Academy's season 3 finale. Much of the drama takes place inside Hotel Obsidian, where the original Hargreeves siblings stay after finding themselves in a timeline in which they don't exist. Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy includes a plethora of WTF moments, but the finale really takes the cake.

<i>The Umbrella Academy</i>'s Season 3 Finale Is Frustrating in All ... (ELLE.com)

Season 3 of Netflix's The Umbrella Academy ends on a massive cliffhanger. Here's what happened—and what it means for the Hargreeves kids.

“I left you to guard the most precious thing in the universe.” But Reg never tells him what—or, rather, who—that was. As a boy, I heard the legend of the seven bells.” If the bells are rung, “all will be restored just as it was.” Basically, “whoever or whatever” made the universe left a safeguard in place—a literal reset button—should the universe become a threat to itself. But if you’d rather not spend the next several hours tapping the rewind button, here’s a quick rundown of what seems to have just happened. Allison presses her palm to the button, and the universe powers down like a 1970s-era television set. Allison is the only one left sitting on the bench, and she’s forced to watch as this power—whatever it is—seems to eat her siblings alive, sucking up their insides and turning their skin dull and grey. We don’t know much about these guardians except that the “creator of the universe” put them in place to protect the reset button from those with nefarious intentions. Their tormenter is dead, but the kids are still in agony, and a Big Red Button has popped up on Reg’s screen. Instead, he calls the remaining family together to hunt for a “sigil,” one that will unlock the mythical “seven bells” that can reset the universe. Reg himself built the Hotel Obsidian around a portal that transports visitors to “the other side,” where it would seem the aforementioned seven bells reside. After finally believing he’d developed a trusting relationship with his abusive father, Klaus is devastated by Reg’s betrayal and impales himself on the horn of a taxidermic white buffalo in the Hotel Obsidian, ostensibly so as to preserve his physical form and return to life, pronto. After all, why return to the family that’s repeatedly rebuffed him, or the father who called him “more trouble than you’re worth”? But Luther appeals to Klaus’s intense need for validation—“I believe in you, brother”—and Klaus agrees to try reincarnating them, despite Luther’s motivational skills lacking Braveheart-level finesse. Episode 10 opens shortly after Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) plunges his tentacle-sword-arm into Luther’s (Tom Hopper) chest, then whips around and abandons Klaus (Robert Sheehan) to the devouring Kügelblitz, a black hole-like entity created by the impossibility of the Umbrella Academy’s existence in a reality where their mothers were killed before they were born.

And for more on the Hargreeves, see our piece on The Umbrella Academy season 3 timeline explained. Check out our guide to the Umbrella Academy season 3 post-credits scene for more on the final moment of the series. Blaming his grandfather for all the wrongs in his life, the boy goes back in time to kill him. A mysterious ball of light and energy, it has the ability to suck people inside of it, killing them, and later sends out waves of power that kill anyone in their path. But what does this have to do with the Grandfather Paradox? Well, if the Hargreeves' mothers are dead, then they shouldn't exist in this timeline. Everyone is unsure of themselves and distrustful of each other in the wake of Luther and Klaus' deaths. Prior to this, at the end of episode 9, Reginald kills Luther (Tom Hopper) in an attempt to bring the family together. As she goes over to check on her daughter, Ray (Yusuf Gatewood), the man she was married to in 1963, appears in the doorway, dressed in present-day clothing. After confronting their father, Reginald Hargreeves, back in the '60s, he decides to adopt another set of superpowered children in 1989, so the siblings find they've got competition as they arrive back in 2019. The Umbrella Academy season 3 has arrived on Netflix, and the finale will have left many of us with more questions than answers.

In front of a car. In front of a bus. Sloane and Luther’s love story is a sweet (and lowkey weird) part of this season. Reginal Hargreeves proves himself to truly only care about himself and those who can benefit him in every timeline. And, even though the show doesn’t focus on it a ton, it’s pretty cool that he came from 1989 Berlin yet didn’t miss a beat in a different timeline. Of course, we discover that her death leads to Harlan’s powers skewing out of control and killing a whole lot of innocent mothers. We know that the “new new Ben” made it into the new timeline but we didn’t get a glimpse of his siblings. There’s always some chance that a version of him exists in this new timeline but, considering the Umbrella collective no longer have powers, he probably doesn’t either. Yes, Grace is a robot but she’s very real for the Umbrella kids. He explodes out and sucks her in during the process. Thanks to Harlan, his unlucky connection with Viktor, grief, and Reginald Hargreeves mucking with fate by adopting a new brood of kids, he exploded the minds of Viktor and crew’s moms before they were born. It seems that red is the right color for the Sparrows. Why? Because all of these folks pretty much die, even the telekinetic cube.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Burning Questions and Ending ... (IGN)

The Umbrella Academy ended the world... again. But it's different this time! Here's what's going on with that Season 3 ending and a breakdown of all the ...

We meet Ben’s mother immediately before her immaculate conception on a similar subway in Korea. But we also probably shouldn’t sleep on the fact that the version of Ben we see on the train looks pretty different from the Sparrow version we spent Season 3 with. But, like all things in The Umbrella Academy, there’s a lot more to this moment than meets the eye. Why is Viktor so ready to forgive his sister for murdering a man who’s only crime was getting saved by the Umbrella Academy as a child? But why is everyone so willing to roll with the unforgivable things that she did in her grief? It’s just strange that Viktor and Luther are so willing to let bygones be bygones after two pretty unforgivable actions from their sister (and in one case, ex). Because of his connection to Viktor and the Umbrella Academy, it targeted all of their mothers before the Umbrellas could be born. Harlan (the young boy that Viktor saved in Season 2, accidentally giving him a piece of his powers, played by Callum Keith Rennie) returns this season much older and much more broken than we remember him. Most of the Sparrow Academy met pretty untimely ends (their Number One played by Justin Cornwell was done dirty, if you ask me) in Season 3. Season 3 put Allison and Viktor through the ringer. The Sparrow’s version of Ben, however, remains alive and well with the rest of his dysfunctional family. Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) snaps out of her loss-induced rage long enough to save her siblings, and Viktor (Elliot Page) decides not to wipe his sister out in favor of trusting her and hopefully repairing their incredibly damaged relationship. Giving the Hargreeves children the opportunity to explore and reflect on their own emotions and intentions rather than sniping at each other constantly gives the audience the opportunity to empathize more than they may have in the past.

That’s a good formula for success when it comes to ongoing sagas like this, and every season of The Umbrella Academy so far has done a surprisingly good job of tying up increasingly wild storylines in satisfying ways while teasing intriguing developments in the characters’ future. At this point, canceling the apocalypse has become business as usual for The Umbrella Academy, and although another extinction event looms over season 3 of the series, the show still finds a way to make the stakes feel high. After making her debut in season 2 of The Umbrella Academy, Ritu Arya also gets more time to develop her character, Lila, in the third season. In one of his first performances since his transition, Elliot Page finally gets a chance for his character, Victor (formerly Vanya), to take on a more assertive role in the family in season 3. Each season of The Umbrella Academy has featured some standout performances, but Aidan Gallagher — who portrays the teleporting “Five” Hargreeves — continues to cement his status as one of the show’s best assets across all three seasons. Created by Steve Blackman and based on the comic book series of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy chronicles the adventures of a dysfunctional family of adopted siblings with superhuman abilities.
