Review: Fall Guys - The World's Most Chaotic Game Show Lands ... (Nintendo Life)

For those of you unacquainted, Fall Guys is a 60-bean battle royale game show. Rather than the usual battle royale fare of blasting your enemies into a bloody ...

All six seasons of content are included off the bat as well as a brand new seventh season ironically named ‘Season One’, with each one having a specific theme like Jungle, Future, or Medieval. As the Switch release coincides with the free-to-play launch, features that are new to the game such as a premium battle pass are included. Fall Guys’ brand of chaotic fun is still great all of these years later, and the free-to-play Switch release is no different, assuming you can ignore your opponents' choppy frame rate. Then there's Survival, in which — as the name implies — you must survive as long as possible, either until a timer runs out or a select number of players are eliminated. Hunt focuses on objectives such as having a tail when the timer runs out or spending a certain amount of time within a certain zone, and Logic, which consists of a couple of fruit-based memory games. Rather than the usual battle royale fare of blasting your enemies into a bloody pulp — or sending garbage in Tetris 99 — Fall Guys is a platformer in which you compete in several different rounds of minigames to take the crown at the end of the show. Fall Guys' matchmaking is split into shows; you have the ‘Main show’ in which you and 59 other beans compete solo to win an elusive crown, which is also in rotation.

Fall Guys Has Been Removed From Steam, But Will Still Receive ... (IGN)

Mediatonic has confirmed that the Steam version of Fall Guys will still continue to receive full support, despite being delisted from the platform.

Fall Guys originally launched on PS4 and Steam back in 2020, but since then developer Mediatonic has been acquired by Epic Games. The transition has seen changes to the Steam version, such as Season 6 introducing the requirement for an Epic Games Account, but the launch of the free-to-play version marks the complete switch from Steam to the Epic Games Launcher. Fall Guys players who didn’t previously buy the game on Steam will now have to head to the Epic Games Store, which is the new home for the game on PC. This platform change comes as Fall Guys switches to a free-to-play model, which also sees the game made available on Xbox consoles, Switch, and PS5, as well as the previous PC and PS4 platforms. Developer Mediatonic has confirmed that the Steam version of Fall Guys will still continue to receive full support, despite being delisted from the platform today.

Fall Guys was never really built as a live service game but, ever since it met with success, has been building out a kind of Fortnite-lite bunch of cosmetic options and brand crossovers. The F2P relaunch comes alongside a reset for its seasons, new in-game currency (Show-Bucks) and a new progression system. Which they're entitled to do but, considering this was sold for $20 (released August 20, 2020), the flipside is that the influx of new players will keep Fall Guys going for a much longer time.

Next, click on “Accounts.” On the accounts page, click on “Connections” and then select “Accounts.” This page will let you link your Epic Games store account with the console account of your choice (Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo). Click on the “Connect” button under the account you want to link, and the website will ask you to confirm. As long as you have crossplay active, not only can you participate against opponents on any platform, but you can even invite friends playing the game to join your team, regardless of which platform they’re playing on. However, if you would rather play against opponents who own the same console as you, go to Fall Guys’ Main Menu (the gear icon at the top of the screen), select “Options,” and then turn “Cross-Platform Matchmaking” to “Off.” While this could help you avoid potential cheaters and hackers (depending on which platforms you’re playing on), it will significantly increase the time it takes to gather enough players for a round. After all, Epic Games bought the Fall Guys development team, and they’re not about to let you enjoy the game without you handing over a little information. Not only did they reveal that the game would soon be released on Nintendo Switch and Xbox, but they even confirmed the title’s long-awaited transition to a free-to-play format complete with crossplay and cross-progress support. Since many of the biggest battle royale games are available on most gaming platforms, they also typically support invaluable crossplay and cross-progression features.

Fall Guys Servers Experiencing Issues As It Goes Free-to-Play (Game Rant)

Mediatonic moves Fall Guys to a free-to-play model at the same time as the game launches on Nintendo Switch and Xbox, which causes server issues.

Some players reported success in accessing Fall Guys custom lobbies, but Mediatonic has also temporarily disabled the feature to fix more issues. Developers at Mediatonic have already apologized to gamers trying to play Fall Guys on its free-to-play launch day that coincides with its Nintendo Switch and Xbox debut. Now that Fall Guys has become free-to-play, it seems like the attention may have returned to the Mediatonic title as its servers are currently experiencing issues.

Fall Guys is now free-to-play on all platforms, is now on the Nintendo Switch, but is now also gone from the Steam store front.

Yes, the soul of Fall Guys has been sucked out of the Steam store and has been transferred to the Nintendo Switch as Fall Guys goes free-to-play and headed to Switch and delisted from Steam. PC players who got Fall Guys on Steam before this would still be able to play the game and connect to other players on other platforms like before, but new players will now only be able to buy a new copy of Fall Guys from the Epic Games Store. We said buy, but, actually, no one will ever have to buy the game ever again, as the game has also gone free-to-play. On all platforms, including on the Nintendo Switch, which the game has just launched on. Now that the game is free-to-play, and is now on the Nintendo Switch to boot, a lot of new players will come into the game and try to earn crowns.

'Fall Guys' servers fall over after free to play launch (NME.com)

Following a long-awaited cross platform and free to play launch, the 'Fall Guys' servers struggled to keep up with demand.

Hopefully, similar to its debut on PlayStation 4 and Steam in 2020, it won’t take long for the server infrastructure to handle the new demand. If PC players do want to switch to one of the newly added platform possibilities, they’ll be happy to learn cross-play and cross-progression are integrated, meaning they won’t lose achievements or progress from their current Fall Guys experience. Existing players don’t need to fret though, as they will not be forced into a mandatory move and can continue to launch the game via the Steam platform as before.

Fall Guys Has Server Issues Following Free-To-Play Relaunch (TheGamer)

Fall Guys players are having issues getting into matches now that it's free-to-play, but the team is working on fixing that.

Fall Guys launched on PlayStation and PC during the summer of 2020 and those who played back then will remember the game having similar issues. The game went free-to-play and launched on more platforms on Tuesday, and it didn't take long for Fall Guys' servers to buckle under the pressure. As for whether the problem has been fixed, matchmaking has started to get a little easier, but it's still not perfect.

A fruit will flash on a board, and the square that had that fruit on will allow you to survive, so stand on it. You should change rollers often, but you don’t need to traverse the entire stage to win here. If you want to get ahead, you’ll need to memorize every stage to a degree so you can understand the best path to take to get ahead of enemies. Fruit appears on the floor, try to memorize the location of one of each unique fruit, and then the fruits will disappear. This game will have walls coming your way – if you don’t find a way through fast, you’ll get caught and knocked off the edge. Fall Guys Goes Free-To-Play, Servers Immediately Crash (Kotaku)

Mediatonic's platformer royale is now available to all but playable by few.

When the game launched, a reported 120,000 players tried to play at once. First released for PlayStation and PC in August 2020, Fall Guys was one of the breakout games of the lockdown-era pandemic. Part of that deal meant moving Fall Guys off the Steam storefront and onto Epic’s proprietary game launcher. It then switched back to business as usual, firing off tweets about cake, in-game cosmetics, and the unsettling fact that Fall Guys’ titular fall guys are six feet tall. When reached for comment, representatives for Mediatonic forwarded Kotaku to Epic. Representatives for Epic did not respond in time for publication. Fall Guys, Mediatonic’s bubbly platformer royale, released on Xbox and Switch yesterday as part of a big free-to-play overhaul.

On flat ground, you will shoot straight up, but while on a slant, you will be pushed away from the angle of the floor. Instead of short jumps, you’ll be able to execute much longer ones, crossing gaps a short jump simply can’t. You’ll get a boost of speed while in the air, but you’ll fall to the ground and will have to climb to your feet once you land, so be careful when diving. Yes, it might be a convenient way to quickly buy a new cosmetic, but you can earn them entirely by playing, no need to spend your hard-earned money just yet. Almost every stage has some kind of cheeky skip you can make use of to get ahead of everyone else. Some of the games and races you’ll come across require a safe path to be deduced, and in those situations, it’s always better to let someone else figure out what that path is. Being grabbed, or grabbing others, can massively throw off your momentum, causing either one of you to stumble and roll around on the ground helplessly.
