There was a walking boot in front of his locker Monday, and the area around his ankle, according to those who saw it, looked pretty grotesque. For one thing, there has to be no choice for Machado, who hasn’t been on the IL since 2014. With Machado, you take the two games not putting him down might get you on the back end. You don’t put Machado — an 11-year veteran and a man who takes great pride in playing almost no matter what befalls his body — on the injured list unless there is no choice. Machado could still end up on the injured list.
