Eric Greitens' "RINO hunting" video removed from Facebook (Axios)

In the 38-second video, the Missouri Republican talks about his past as a Navy Seal before saying he's going "RINO hunting."

- "We are sick and tired of the Republicans in Name Only surrendering to Joe Biden & the radical Left," Greitens tweeted alongside the ad. Why it matters: The collapse of the government comes less than a month before President Biden's visit to Israel, which is planned for July 13. - "The RINO feeds on corruption and is marked by the stripes of cowardice... You're going to get someone killed. He then breaks into a home alongside a group of men wearing U.S. camouflage uniforms and other military-style gear. - He calls on his supporters to join the "MAGA crew" and get a "RINO hunting permit."

In a video posted Monday, former Gov. Eric Greitens promoted a fundraising program offering a “RINO Hunting Permit” to supporters.

“He belongs in prison — not the U.S. Senate.” Tim Garrison, appointed by then-President Donald Trump in 2018 as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, wrote on Twitter that Greitens was fishing for news stories, and to perhaps be banned from Twitter, for “his latest bonkers ad for promoting violence…It’s completely intentional. To be clear: The only RINO featured in Eric Greitens’ web video is himself.” “However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible.” Please see our republishing guidelines for use of photos and graphics. I agree!” Another prominent Democratic candidate, Trudy Busch Valentine, said in a statement that that the video is “despicable.” Trump uses it to describe any Republican who disagrees with him. The RINO insult has been around for decades but its use has reached a new level in recent years. The video is “very distasteful,” said U.S. Rep. Billy Long of Springfield, adding that the only way to beat RINOs “is at the ballot box.” The item being offered appears to be a reworked version of the “ISIS Hunting Permit” Greitens distributed during his 2016 campaign for governor. In a video posted Monday of a fake no-knock home raid, former Gov. Eric Greitens — flanked by extras in body armor, using flash grenades and carrying firearms — promoted a fundraising program offering a “RINO Hunting Permit” to supporters of his U.S. Senate campaign.

It shouldn't be a partisan debate that a video like the one Greitens posted Monday is beyond the pale. I'd be surprised if it took Greitens' team more than 24 hours to turn the negative reaction to the video into a fundraising appeal. The video cuts to a house where Greitens, surrounded by what looks like a tactical unit, waits by the door. Facebook moved quickly to remove the video Monday "for violating our policies prohibiting violence and incitement," according to Meta spokesman Andy Stone. 1) It will draw a massive amount of attention -- negative or positive -- to his campaign. "The RINO feeds on corruption and is marked by the stripes of cowardice," says Greitens. The unit smashes the door down and throws what looks like a smoke grenade.

Every seat in the House and a third of the seats in the 100-member Senate are up for election. As of April 25, 46 of the 50 states had settled on the boundaries for 395 of 435 U.S. House districts. Which primaries are the most competitive? Here’s a complete calendar of all the primaries in 2022. He launched his campaign for Senate last year after Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) announced that he would retire at the end of his term. Why are the midterms important? Thirty six governors and thousands of state legislators are also on the ballot. “There’s ZERO difference between Eric Greitens & Donald Trump. In fact, your cowardly embrace of Trump directly led to Greitens, and [Marjorie Taylor] Greene, and [Lauren] Boebert, and…” “And until we get a grip on telling people the truth, we can’t expect any differently.” Those and other shootings prompted protests across the country against gun violence and have sparked some bipartisan conversations in Congress about gun safety legislation. On Sunday, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) shared that his wife had received a letter in the mail threatening to execute his family, including their 5-month-old baby. Democratic National Committee chairman Jaime Harrison called the video “radical.. extreme...

In Ad, Shotgun-Toting Greitens Asks Voters to Go 'RINO Hunting' (The New York Times)

A right-wing Senate candidate accompanies a squad of heavily armed men as they storm a home looking for 'Republicans in name only.'

A number of Republicans, including Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri, called on Mr. Greitens then to quit the race. Mr. Greitens’s campaign made no apologies for it, however. “Every Republican should denounce this sick and dangerous ad from Eric Greitens,” Barbara Comstock, a former Republican congresswoman from Virginia, said on Monday. “This is just a taste of the ‘clear and present danger’ that Judge Luttig talked about last week.” “Get a RINO hunting permit. “Join the MAGA crew,” Mr. Greitens, a former Navy SEAL, declares in the ad. Eric Greitens, a Republican candidate for the United States Senate in Missouri, released a violent new political advertisement on Monday showing himself racking a shotgun and accompanying a team of men armed with assault rifles as they stormed — SWAT team-style — into a home in search of “RINOs,” or Republicans in name only.

Eric Greitens called those allegations fabricated at the time. "However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public's interest for the tweet to remain accessible." Greitens has claimed there was no violence, and described the affair as consensual. Sheena Greitens made the accusations during a child custody dispute. Greitens, a former Navy SEAL, opens the ad by saying he's "going RINO hunting." Greitens' resignation was part of a deal with a St. Louis prosecutor to drop a felony charge alleging misuse of a charity donor list to raise funds for his 2016 gubernatorial campaign.

Greitens puts out gun-toting video implying he's hunting members of ... (McClatchy Washington Bureau)

Missouri former Governor Eric Greitens put out a video where he holds a gun and says he's hunting members of the Republican party with men in military gear.

“The problem is the RINOs that keep stabbing real patriots in the back and kept stabbing President Trump in the back,” he said at one event. Earlier this year he appeared in a video with Donald Trump Jr. where the two fired weapons at a shooting range and said “liberals beware.” As the Republican establishment has clearly stated they believe Greitens will be a political vulnerability for the party if he wins the primary, Greitens has made “RINOs” a theme of his campaign. Earlier this month he launched a “no mo RINOs” tour where he traveled across the state to campaign. U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler said the “only RINO featured in Eric Greitens’ web video was himself” and made references to his allegations of sexual abuse. “[Missouri Attorney General Eric] Schmitt nor Hartzler can beat him, but he may be able to beat himself,” Long said in a text message. Greitens is no longer a member of the Navy SEALs though he served with them in the early 2000s. “There is no basement too low for him to cover up his past Obama support and blindfold Missourians into believing he represents their values.” The video was flagged on Twitter and removed from Facebook. It comes in the aftermath of two high-profile mass shootings and as Congress appears to be making progress on legislation to address gun violence. “Today, we’re going RINO hunting,” Greitens says in the video. They break down the door to a house, throw a smoke bomb and storm into an empty room. His campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.

Addressed to my wife, sent to my home, threatening the life of my family. Proponents of the bill’s framework have worried losing momentum will doom its chances. His opponents include Missouri Reps. Vicky Hartzler and Billy Long, as well as state Attorney General Eric Schmitt. The primary is scheduled for August 2. The newest update? There’s a reason why allusions to violence may land differently in this era of polarization. The chamber will convene at 3 p.m. Following leader remarks, the Senate will be in a period of morning business for debate only, and senators are permitted to speak for 10 minutes each. The bill is tied to the Hyde Amendment, which bans the use of federal funds to pay for abortion, a development that occurred in discussions about the bill's health care provisions. The Darkness is spreading courtesy of cowardly leaders fearful of truth. The Senate: Senate negotiators and their staff are putting together the bill text of the bipartisan gun safety legislation, with the deal expected to drop soon. The backdrop: Greitens, who faced new allegations of familial abuse this spring (which he strongly denies), has continued to lead most polls of the crowded Republican primary for Missouri's Senate seat. — Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), one of the two GOP members of the Jan. 6 select panel and one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Donald Trump, shared a threatening letter his family got over the weekend. The ad features a gun-toting Greitens and men in tactical gear entering a house to go "hunting." (If you click through, you'll note the Twitter warning on the top.)

In 2018, the Republican politician resigned in disgrace from being Missouri's governor after he was accused by a former mistress of sexual conduct during an affair. Again, that represented a lead of 6 percent for the Republican contender. Whether the controversial campaign ad dampens Republican support for Greitens remains to be seen. The poll included 1,065 likely voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percent. The GOP hopeful slid the action of the shotgun he was holding as he made the remark. That survey, conducted from May 16 to 18, showed Greitens at 26 percent, Hartlzer at 23 percent and Schmitt at 19 percent.

Eric Greitens defended his “RINO Hunting” video during a radio interview, calling critics “snowflakes” expressing “faux outrage.”

“The question you could ask yourself is, was there any ad that the Eric Greitens campaign was going to do that RINOS and the mainstream media would love?” Greitens said. We knew that they were going to come out and attack us and that’s what they’ve done.” Please see our republishing guidelines for use of photos and graphics. In his 2016 campaign, Greitens told Mundo, he said “we’re gonna blow up the political establishment. His top rivals in the race, according to the polls, are Schmitt, U.S. Reps. Vicky Hartzler and Billy Long, state Senate President Pro Tem Dave Schatz and St. Louis attorney Mark McCloskey. Greitens was governor from January 2017 until he resigned on June 1, 2018, to settle a felony charge and avoid impeachment. In the radio appearance, Greitens said the ad was meant to set him apart from his foes and reinforce the message of his campaign that he was the real “America First” conservative. It didn’t mean we’re literally gonna blow up the Capitol with gasoline bombs. “The creation and release of this video again demonstrates that Mr. Greitens does not possess the sound judgment necessary to represent the people of Missouri in the United States Senate, and that he has learned nothing from the legal problems he experienced prior to resigning as Missouri’s governor,” the FOP release stated. “The idea behind it was very simple: We just wanted to demonstrate with a sense of humor and with a sense of fun that we are going to take on RINOS,” Greitens said. The Eagle Forum PAC called Greitens a “CRINO” — a Conservative Republican in Name Only — and called on him to withdraw. “It is entertaining to watch the faux outrage of all of the liberals and rhinos snowflakes around the country and around the state,” Greitens said.

Former Gov. Eric Greitens, a Missouri Senate candidate, defended an ad depicting him and others in tactical gear hunting Republicans in Name Only (RINOS).

A hearing in the case is scheduled for Thursday. The loudest critics of the ad, Greitens said, were the RINOS themselves. The campaign of Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, another Republican opponent, responded with an eye-roll emoji. Twitter added a warning to the video while Facebook took it down. But many people, including police officers, did not interpret the ad that way. The Missouri State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police has condemned the ad, along with a host of Republican and Democratic politicians.
