Season 3 of the docuseries that uses real audio from 9-1-1 calls to let viewers experience every harrowing and terrifying moment of the callers’ ordeals kicks off with “I’m Dying,” which tells three stories. The premiere episode, “Aileen Wuornos: The Damsel of Death, ” covers Florida’s Wuornos, who committed her first murder in 1989 and went on to kill seven people. The second half of Season 5 begins with the squad free to roam as the world opens back up. As in the original series, the heist here is instigated by a criminal mastermind known as the Professor (Yoo Ji-tae), and his group carries out the operation while wearing masks inspired by treasures, at least one of which is a traditional Korean Hahoe mask that adorned the poster promoting the series. In the Season 2 premiere, “The Shapeshifter,” Ben and Melissa follow the trail of a shapeshifting UFO that seems intent on cracking our military secrets. Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton, in her feature film debut, lead this famed 1980 comedy in which they play put-upon and harassed employees of a sexist and egotistical boss (Dabney Coleman) who find a way to turn the tables on him and get revenge. In Season 3 of the superhero series, after having put a stop to 1963’s doomsday, the Umbrella Academy return home to the present, convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed the timeline once and for all. As Season 2 of the standout superhero saga races to a dramatic close, all hell breaks loose in Smallville. “We kind of went crazy with the spectacle,” showrunner Todd Helbing excitedly admits of the final two episodes. Joan Jett and Dave Grohl provide guest voices in the new episode “Born to Run (A Small Business).” A star-studded lineup of special guests joins them to commemorate Juneteenth. There will also be a tribute to Sammy Davis Jr. and the performance of a new Juneteenth anthem. Season 3 of this family comedy created and executive produced by Tyler Perry begins with “Friday the Juneteenth.” Dylan (Dylan Gilmer) and Rebecca (Celina Smith) find themselves at odds over the float parade as the annual Juneteenth celebration fast approaches. First up is the comedy Life With Father (1947), with Best Actor Oscar nominee William Powell as a strait-laced, turn-of-the-20th-century father who presides over a family of boys, and whose wife (Irene Dunne) is really the one who rules the roost.

He says he’s a member of the communal council, and that he knows everything that goes on in the area. Jack’s companion, Claudine, goes to bathe in the ocean in a striking—and scanty for the 1920s—swimsuit. She is watched approvingly by Roberto Albani, who is joined by Vincenczo Danioni and some toughs. Danioni later appears at the hotel and asks to speak to Bella in private. When Bella writes a letter that she sends to the post via a servant because she doesn’t want Cecil to see it, a man intercepts the servant and offers to carry it into town for her; she accepts. He sits with the lady through the night and suggests to Bella that she begin serving prune juice, and perhaps offer the lady a digestif. Lucian seems more drawn to Constance. In addition to caring for Lottie, Constance will also help out at the hotel, but Bella surmises that she doesn’t read very well after she looks perplexed by a menu. (Alice is bitter that her father is paying so much attention to her brother’s marriage but cares little about hers.) Rose’s mother Julia is in on the scheme—she and Cecil used to be a couple. Cecil believes painting is a waste of time—until the stylish American Jack Turner arrives at the hotel in a flashy car and admires Lucian’s paintings, which hang on the walls. Later, he interrogates Jack further and learns that the real fortune is in Renaissance art and its authentication. She wakes Anish and asks him to attend to Lady Latchmere: she is ailing and he is medically trained. Bella and Anish both are worried about Lucian. He was badly injured in the First World War, and while his physical wounds are healing he is not the man he once was. Cecil returns from Genoa in the wee hours and pockets some of the cash Bella has earned from the hotel before drunkenly approaching Bella in her room.
'Hotel Portofino' Review: PBS Takes a Trip to the Italian Coast (Showbiz Cheat Sheet)
'Hotel Portofino' on PBS is an escapist period drama that will appeal to fans of 'The Durrells in Corfu' and 'Downton Abbey.'
The show also touches on more serious subjects in its portrayal of the rising threat of Fascism. Signor Danioni (Pasquale Esposito) is a scheming local official who is sympathetic to Mussolini. He doesn’t hesitate to use his power to influence what happens in town, and the Ainsworths quickly discover that their Englishness does not insulate them from his attempts at extortion. Several people (including an LGBTQ character who is a leader in the antifascist resistance) predict what the shifting political winds will mean for those who don’t fall in line, and it’s nothing good. Other characters include a fading tennis champ and his wife, a gracious Italian count, a corrupt local official who interferes with the Ainsworths’ business, an Italian maid who is having an affair with Lucian, and an English cook who can’t make heads or tails of the local cuisine. Hotel Portofino, which was filmed on location in Italy and Croatia, is gorgeous to look at. The large ensemble cast also includes Louisa Binder as Constance, a young woman with a secret who takes a job as a nanny of Alice’s daughter; a delightful Anna Chancellor as Lady Latchmere, a straight-laced hotel guest; and Assad Zaman as Anish, a doctor and close friend of Lucian’s. Lucy Akhurst plays the snobbish Julia, who arrives at the Hotel Portofino with her daughter Rose (Claude Scott-Mitchell) in tow. Money issues are a source of tension throughout the series, particularly between Cecil and Bella, whose nuanced, complicated relationship is one of the more interesting things about the show.
