"We congratulate the 16 FIFA World Cup Host Cities on their outstanding commitment and passion," FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a news release. It will be the second time the US has hosted the World Cup after the first in 1994, and a record third time for Mexico, which also hosted in 1970 and 1986.

World Cup 2026 host cities revealed, with 11 venues in U.S., 3 in ... (ESPN)

FIFA has announced the venues that will host matches during the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

All of the 2026 World Cup will be played on natural grass. "Together with our good friends in Canada and Mexico, we couldn't be more excited to work with FIFA to host what we think will be the greatest World Cup in history. "Our stated goal is to have the finals," Hunt said. "When we built the stadium, it was to have great, great events," Jones said. In 1994, the Cotton Bowl hosted World Cup matches. To be able to participate in such an event is ... really awesome and inspiring." Originally starting with candidates from 44 cities and 49 stadiums across North America, the process to select venues began in 2017. Not making the list were areas such as Chicago, Minneapolis and Arizona, due to what city officials described as issues with FIFA's financial demands. We'll be engaging with all of the cities that weren't chosen to host matches. "I want to congratulate all the bid cities that will host games. Once the tournament reaches the quarterfinal stage, all remaining knockout round games will be held in the U.S. "We will be working in clusters, making sure that the teams and the fans don't have to travel too much in different areas: West, Central and East."

World Cup 2026 host cities confirmed: What you need to know about ... (ESPN)

From Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium to SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, here's what you need to know about the chosen cities for the 2026 tournament.

The stadium is set to expand again ahead of the 2026 World Cup with plans to accommodate roughly an additional 17,000 more people for a total of more than 45,000. Only a couple miles from the heart of Canada's largest city, BMO Field is accessible by streetcar and subway, making it an ideal host city for World Cup-goers to add to their itineraries. BC Place is smack dab in downtown Vancouver, walking distance from bars and restaurants that World Cup-goers will take over, and in 2015, Robson Street was a sea of red, white and blue marching toward the stadium. It's a major East Coast tour stop for some of the world's biggest musical acts, it's hosted Premier League Lacrosse and more primetime NFL games (thanks to the Patriots' remarkable success) than can be counted. The Revolution averaged just 18,861 in attendance last season, but the Patriots have enjoyed a sellout streak dating back to 1994 and foster one of the more atmospheric home-field advantages in the NFL. In its current guise, Gillette has been home to World Cup qualifiers, Gold Cups and the Copa America Centenario. The Copa held its semifinals and final at the Meadowlands, and the 82,026-strong final crowd helped the 2016 edition of the tournament become the best attended in the competition's history. Major events hosted here: Miami finally got another soccer team of its own (Inter Miami CF) in 2020, but the city is no stranger to major events in several sports. (He also took in the sights of an Atlanta United game while taking a break from work.) The sports teams aren't bad, either: the KC Royals won the baseball World Series in 2015, while the NFL's Chiefs have won back-to-back AFC Championships (2019, 2020) and the 2019 Super Bowl thanks to the play of quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The city's MLS team, Sporting Kansas City, were a founding member of the league back in 1996 and boast two MLS Cups (2000, 2013) and four U.S. Open Cups. Fittingly for its location in Silicon Valley, Levi's Stadium is one of the most modern, technically advanced sports arenas in the world. Furthermore, it will be the first World Cup to boast 48 qualified teams following FIFA's vote in 2017 to expand the field from 32 sides, which had been the standard since France 1998.

FIFA Reveals 16 Cities to Host 2026 World Cup (FTNnews.com)

FIFA revealed the 16 host cities for the 2026 World Cup early on Friday, with 11 venues picked from the US.

"This will be huge for the growth of the game, similar to what the 1994 FIFA World Cup did for soccer in the US. It will grow the sport and unite the people. Osorio helped Canada to qualify for their first World Cup tournament since 1986 as they booked their place at Qatar 2022 and he was equally excited by the inclusion of Toronto and Vancouver among the host cities. The USA last hosted the FIFA World Cup in 1994.

FIFA saw what we all know is true: Philadelphia is a welcoming, world-class city and we have the experience to deliver a fantastic experience for teams, fans, and sponsors alike. “What a victory and what a testament to the strength of our bid,” said Daniel J. I am immensely proud of the exceptional work that we presented to FIFA, and I am grateful to the many partners who came together to support this Bid, including the PHLCVB, which led the charge dating back to the United Bid in 2016-17 and the Philadelphia Eagles, who have made Lincoln Financial Field such a spectacular venue. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, echoed Hilferty’s sentiments, “This is an incredible win for the Philadelphia and sets the stage for an unprecedented year for our city in 2026.
