2022 NBA Finals: Finally, Stephen Curry earns first Finals MVP ... (USA TODAY)

Missing out in 2015 when Andre Iguodala won the award and in 2017 and 2018 when Kevin Durant won the award, Curry won the 2022 Finals MVP hands down.

You know, it just says a lot about his toughness and his competitive nature and what it truly means to be a winner." When Curry wasn’t scoring at such a prolific rate – just 16 points in Game 5 – he had eight assists and two steals. He scored at least 30 points in five games, including a series-high 43 points in Game 4, the second-highest scoring output in his Finals career. "I remember where I started and just the whole journey," Curry said earlier in the series. The fact that from high school to your first All-Star Game, like it's a journey, and everything that had to go right in your life and on the court for that to happen. "He's our engine offensively," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said earlier in the playoffs.

After Memphis blew out Golden State in Game 5, Curry had 29 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to eliminate the Grizzlies in Game 6. "This is an era of play that will be defined by LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant," Thomas said. If he doesn't, wherever he is at, he's been great." If he gets to the top 10, God bless him. Then, you can make the argument that there's some other people who should be in the top 10, top 15. "As [Boston's] Cedric Maxwell said to me the other night, he goes, 'There's [32 NBA Finals MVPs]. I'm one of them.' What I do know, and I do want people to realize, is the Chamberlains, the Russells, the Kareems, the Shaqs, that's four right there. All eleven voters from a national media panel chose Curry as the MVP of the 2022 Finals. Curry finished with 34 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds in the series clincher. Game 6 was also a legacy game for the point guard. "To me, this is his crowning achievement in what's already been an incredible career." And he let opponents hear it from him too during this championship run. In six games against the Celtics, Curry averaged 31.2 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Golden State Warriors have won their fourth NBA title in the last eight seasons. The Warriors lost the 2016 Finals in a rematch against Cleveland, but had they won, Curry would have been the heavy favorite for the award. His second and third were as a part of arguably the greatest team of all time. But his fourth should silence the doubters once and for all. Curry has been among the NBA's best players for a decade and has had the Warriors in the Finals in six of the past eight seasons, but despite his two regular season MVP awards, he'd never earned the top individual honor of the Finals. When he won his first championship in 2015, Andre Iguodala surprisingly one it after being inserted into the starting lineup for Game 4 and helping Golden State win the final three games of the series. This is Curry's first Finals MVP award, one in which he was a unanimous selection, and he earned it by averaging 31 points, five assists and six rebounds in the Finals against Boston's No. 1 ranked defense.

NBA Finals MVP Ladder: Stephen Curry finishes at top as Warriors ... (NBA.com)

Golden State's superstar puts in another memorable performance in series-clinching win to secure the 1st Finals MVP of his Hall of Fame career.

Green, Curry, and Thompson have now tied Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Byron Scott, and James Worthy for the third-most postseason wins by a trio (93) since 1976-77. “I just know how hard this is, and to be here for a fourth time, [I’m] so grateful for my teammates.” Curry has poured in at least 30 points in 51 career postseason outings to become just the 11th player to accomplish that feat. “I was feeling just so high on life that I did not want to leave the stage,” Thompson said. The point guard has scored 30 points or more in 14 career Finals contests. “We did it to ourselves. “They won and we lost,” Brown said after the game. Now, when they have something to say, they have to say I’m a world champion, too.” Interestingly, the booing subsided quickly into scattered chatter, as “MVP” chants gradually broke out in pockets around TD Garden from the Warriors fans clad in yellow and blue shirts sprinkled into a sea of green that engulfed the arena. Minutes later, the time arrived for Curry to receive his latest hardware. But it’s been really hard for me to think that’s actually been held against him.” So, it’s great to check that box for him.
