That 2009 SCF was first Final rematch since Islanders Oilers from 1983 and 1984. It is not required to be won by a player from the Cup champion. According to ESPN’s broadcast, that was the first five-hole goal Vasilevskiy’s allowed this postseason We rightfully make a ton out of how he can be a game-changer, but don’t forget that his line is stacked with two-way talent on both wings in Gabriel Landeskog and Val Nichushkin The Lightning trail 2-1.— Shayna (@hayyyshayyy) pic.twitter.com/aVfp0PbYoe June 16, 2022 Think the Lightning are patting themselves on the back for that deadline add? 5-on-3 power play for the Avalanche for 1:33 is a pretty massive opportunity. Nice set-up from Mikko Rantanen via Gabriel Landeskog. Not a lot to do for the Lightning against that sort of talent on a 5-on-3. END 1: The Avalanche lead 3-1 against Tampa. They have dominated play thus far and lead 15-8 in shots. One goal Vasilevskiy probably wants to have back. Lightning rarely lays two eggs in a row in any series. It’s obviously a super small sample, but the Avalanche didn’t entirely shield Nathan MacKinnon from the Anthony Cirelli matchup.

Avalanche intends to swarm Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy in ... (The Denver Post)

“They do have a great goalie on that side that has accomplished a lot but we also know that defending isn't just about goalies,” Avs forward J.T. Compher said ...

Colorado’s ability to control the puck and continually pepper opposing netminders with shots has been a hallmark of its play throughout its 12-2 playoff run. Love our leadership starting with (Gabe Landeskog) all the way down, and we’re prepared and ready to go play our game. “We’re in a good spot,” Bednar said after the morning skate. Both guys have shown throughout the season that they can be successful and both guys have been doing the work. “Both guys have been huge for us all year and have stepped up at different points,” he said. And Colorado intends to beat him four more times in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Stanley Cup final: Lightning-Avalanche Game 1 live updates (Tampa Bay Times)

History is within reach. Oust the Avalanche, and the Bolts can become the first team in 40 years to win three straight Stanley Cup championships.

It has legitimate superstars in Nathan MacKinnon and defenseman Cale Makar. They don’t freelance (well, okay, aside from Nikita Kucherov) and seldom deviate from their structure. Follow our Tampa Bay Times sports team on The organization identifies players that have inner drive, fit into their locker room, fill a particular role and hunger for championships. They know what success looks like and recognize when their effort isn’t where it needs to be, which is why they never lose confidence in themselves. They understand the amount of work that went into winning it. It’s not just about skill, though the Lightning have it in spades. 6:30 p.m.: The Avalanche will have their starting goaltender back. 7:44 p.m.: The Avs will be without Nazem Kadri and Andrew Cogliano for Game 1. Coming off the rush, a shot by Mikko Rantanen squeezes through Vasilevskiy and it looks like Gabriel Landeskog knocks it the back of the net while driving to the crease. 9:00 p.m.: At the end of the 1st period, it's 3-1 Avalanche. Two weak goals by Vasilevskiy and a questionable penalty to put the Avs on a 5 on 3 lead to the defending champions behind early in Game 1. It's 5 on 3 for 1:33 for the Avs. 0 0 The Lightning were pushed to seven games by the Maple Leafs in the first round, but were able to prevail. 0 Andrei Vasilevskiy continues to be the best goaltender in the league, sporting a 2.27 goals against average and a .928 save percentage. Who will win the Stanley Cup: Colorado Avalanche or Tampa Bay ... (USA TODAY)

The Tampa Bay Lightning look to win a third consecutive Stanley Cup, but the Colorado Avalanche stand in the way. USA TODAY staffers make predictions.

When rolling, this Tampa team is a hard one to stop, though the Avalanche will certainly give it their all to stop them with their own brand of electric hockey. Lightning in six: I picked Tampa Bay over Colorado before the season started so I feel compelled to stick with that pick now that they're facing off for the Stanley Cup with history on the line. I had chosen the Avalanche before the playoffs and had Cale Makar winning the Conn Smythe Trophy. I believe the dynamic defenseman will be the difference in a hard-fought series.

“I think this is the best time to learn about hockey if you're a Colorado sports fan.” “To learn a new sport, for me on my end, it's been absolutely incredible, especially when I get to do it with my family. “It was certainly an exciting time not just for sports fans, but just for everybody who had just been waiting for Denver to really come into its own as a big American city, right?” As the current Avs team gets set to play in their first Stanley Cup Final in 21 years, longtime fans are hoping for a replay of some of the same magic that brought the Cup home to Denver in 1996 and again five years later. “First we had, you know, [Andrés] Galarraga and [Vinny] Castilla and all those fellows who became household names,” she said, referring to the home-run hitting Rockies sluggers from that era. You want to know what is really going on these days, especially in Colorado. We can help you keep up. They haven’t been to the Final since. While Ware was nodding off, the city of Denver was just starting to come alive. And she’s been cheering on her team ever since the Avs — formerly known as the Quebec Nordiques — moved to Denver from Canada in 1995. Count Folk — who attended an Avs watch party at the old McNichols Arena the night they beat the Florida Panthers in triple overtime to win the Cup in ‘96 — as one of those fans. “The entire place exploded,” Folk said of McNichols on June 10, 1996. You see, it’s long-been a tradition for Red Wings fans to throw dead octopuses on the ice during playoff games, so the whole octopus theme here actually isn't all that bizarre – OK, well, maybe it still is.
