That’s how much Williams is worth, according to Forbes’ calculations, thanks to her $94 million in career winnings on the court, endorsements and investments. Williams’ $45.3 million in earnings last year placed her No. 33 on Forbes’ “World’s Highest Paid Athletes” list. Serena Williams will play Wimbledon beginning later this month, the 40-year-old announced in an Instagram post Tuesday morning, her first tournament in a year as she remains one victory shy of the all-time Grand Slam singles record.

Serena Williams Plans to Play in Wimbledon (The New York Times)

Williams hasn't competed since she was injured during the first round of Wimbledon last year.

She has not competed since last August in Chicago and is not on the initial list of Wimbledon wild cards. Ashleigh Barty went on to win the Wimbledon title and then reaffirmed herself as the No. 1 player by winning the Australian Open in January ,only to retire unexpectedly in March at age 25. Williams has both despite her long absence from the tour. Serena Williams is No. 1,208, which explains why she required a wild card to gain entry to Wimbledon. But if she does indeed return to the All England Club, it will be her 21st appearance at Wimbledon, where she has won seven singles titles and seven doubles titles, six of the doubles titles with her older sister Venus Williams. Rennae Stubbs, a coach and former player who is an ESPN tennis analyst, said Williams’s comeback was particularly noteworthy given her exit from Wimbledon last year, in which she limped off the court in tears.

Serena Williams will play later this month at Wimbledon, which awarded a wild-card invitation Tuesday to the 23-time Grand Slam winner.

While Williams has been sidelined, first Ash Barty and then Iga Swiatek stepped into the opening left by her extended absence. Earlier in the day, Williams posted a photo of her white shoes on what appears to be a grass court and the message: "SW and SW19. It's a date. That is why she was not automatically placed in the Wimbledon field. (The tournament was canceled in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic.) Williams was the runner-up there in 2018 and 2019. Serena Williams will play at Wimbledon after all.

Serena Williams will return to tennis at Wimbledon after year-long ... (The Washington Post)

With 23 Grand Slam titles, Serena Williams, 40, on Tuesday received a wild-card entry to Wimbledon to seek a 24th after a year-long competitive hiatus.

Williams, whose power, skill and competitiveness revolutionized women’s tennis since she won her first Grand Slam at the 1999 U.S. Open, has been seeking to equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles. A well-executed drop shot not only can take a player by surprise, it also can exploit a shaky vulnerability. Until Tuesday, it wasn’t clear if Williams would return to competition at all. Instead, the All-England Club announced her wild-card entry. John Feinstein: “Statistics are overused, but a handful of Nadal’s numbers go beyond breathtaking. During her hiatus from the sport, her ranking has plunged to 1,208, well outside the cutoff for automatic entry to Grand Slam singles events.

Serena Williams received a wild card for Wimbledon later this month and will return to tournament tennis next week for her first matches in nearly one year.

Williams has not competed anywhere since getting injured during the first set of her first-round match at the All England Club a year ago. In 2021, Williams lost her footing on the slick grass and then her right leg buckled, leading to just the second mid-match retirement at any Grand Slam tournament of her career and first since 1998. But on Tuesday, Williams posted a photo of her white shoes on what appears to be a grass court and the message: “SW and SW19. It’s a date.

Serena Williams Invests In Karat To Expand Their Brilliant Black ... (Forbes)

Jeffrey Spector, co-founder and president of Karat, says that while doubling the number of Black engineers in tech is a lofty objective, they have a strategy in place to achieve it. Both Williams and Mays, who grew up in Compton, California, understand the significance of the kind of transformation that technology can bring to communities that have experienced trauma and disenfranchisement. "All it takes is one chance to transform a person's life and the lives of others who follow," Mays adds. It's critical for me to go back to Compton and other parts of the country and show people that they can pass anyone's hiring criteria. By giving firms access to a larger, interview-ready talent pool, the Brilliant Black Minds initiative aids in the resolution of these important business concerns. The whole goal of the tech industry is to stimulate innovation, which you can't accomplish if there are only a few voices representing each sector." "It makes the purpose and meaning of what we do at Karat a lot more important and interesting from a cultural and societal standpoint,” adds Bhende. My focus is ensuring the solutions to those challenges are developed by all of us,” said Williams. “There has never been a shortage of brilliance in Black America; only limits to the access and opportunities extended to our community. The Brilliant Black Minds program uses Karat's interviewing cloud to provide free interview practice, feedback, and coaching to aspiring software engineers in this community. With only 5% of all software engineers in the United States being Black, the hurdles to entry into the tech industry are being exposed. Serena Williams recently announced a strategic investment in the initiative that enhances access and inclusion in the tech industry. However, the same study found that additional interview preparation boosts confidence - 79% of respondents with three practice interviews said they were more likely to succeed.

Wimbledon needs Serena Williams more than Serena Williams ... (Deadspin)

The greatest tennis player of all time is returning to the sport's most prestigious tournament. But this time around, one side needs the other more than ...

The sport of tennis needs Williams on the court, especially given the way things are going on the women’s side. As of right now, Osaka’s name is on the entry list for the tournament. As a legendary sports icon that changed the way her sport is played, and viewed, and as an athlete that makes more money off the court than she does on it, at age 40, referring to Williams as someone who plays tennis instead of just viewing her as a “tennis player” isn’t a diss, it’s a fact. The tournament — and sport — needs her. That’s why, in 2022, Williams is doing The All England Club a favor. The greatest tennis player of all time is returning to the sport’s most prestigious tournament.
