Cochise, Saucy Santana, KenTheMan, Big Scarr, Big30, KayCyy, and Kali round out the 2022 Freshman Class.

Big30, based in Memphis, had his first breakout moment after hopping on the 2021 single “ Neighbors” by Pooh Shiesty, his childhood friend. Houston rapper KenTheMan grew up singing in her high school’s choir, writing poetry, and taking part in girl groups before exploring a hip-hop career. Find the cover below.

Three rappers with Michigan ties named to 2022 XXL Freshman Class (mlive.com)

Babyface Ray, Babytron and SoFaygo, all from Michigan, each made the 15th anniversary XXL Freshman Class.

Producer Wheezy Outta Here made beats for the cypher. SoFaygo, 20, was born in Grand Rapids and moved to Cobb County, Georgia before he started making music. Twelve artists made the final cut.

XXL revealed its 2022 Freshman Class on Tuesday (June 14), including Cochise, KenTheMan, SoFaygo, KayCyy, Doechii, Nardo Wick and more.

This is the 15th XXL Freshman Class, with the list starting back in 2007 and skipping a year before returning in 2009. Coi Leray, Blxst, Flo Milli, Pooh Shiesty and more were heralded in last year’s XXL Freshman Class. Notable Freshman Class alumni include Kid Cudi (2009), J. Cole (2010), Future (2012), Travis Scott (2013), Chance the Rapper (2014) and Megan Thee Stallion (2019). Doechii, who is Top Dawg Entertainment’s first female rapper, was featured in Billboard‘s Pride issue as one of music’s queer game-changers.
