The colors of our flag have meant different things to different people. They've meant many things to me as I've indicated in several articles I've written.
And as for “under God,” what kind of god allows for the wanton destruction of the most precious among us in the most horrible of manners? So, the colors of the American flag will have new meaning for me from now on. She was a victim of the Fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse-Agent Orange-the lethal, dioxin-laced defoliant dumped to the tune of millions of gallons on the jungle and troops alike. The white stripes will remind me of the innocence of children, their perpetually smiling faces, raucous laughter, devil-may-care attitudes unburdened by the responsibilities and stress concomitant with growing up; an innocence so clearly evident on the faces of each of the Uvalde 19. From this Flag Day on, the colors will have different meanings for me. The colors of our flag have meant different things to different people.

Flag Day, observed annually on June 14, celebrates the day in 1777 when the United States approved the design for its first flag. Others will celebrate with parades or at events sponsored by schools, veterans and groups like the National Flag Day Foundation, whose goal is to preserve Old Glory's history and pride. During the Civil War, Driver remained loyal to the Union and sewed “Old Glory” into a quilt for safekeeping, according to Tennessee Encyclopedia. When the Union army occupied Music City, Driver gave the flag to the troops to be flown for a short time over the State Capitol. The flag today features 13 horizontal red and white stripes, representing the nation's 13 original colonies, and a blue rectangle in the canton with 50 white, five-pointed stars representing the states. Letter writers offer insights into Flag Day and how and why we say The Pledge of Allegiance, continue to call for NH action to curb gun violence.
If the arguments defending the continued sale of the AR-15 and weapons like them as presented by Scalise, Buck and Thune are the grounds for its continued sale to the public, then there is no doubt that they should be banned again, as they were in 1994. And then, after the next slaughters, we will keep repeating the same exercise in futility ad nauseum. One year later, the governor vetoed a “red flag” bill that would have established a civil procedure to remove firearms and ammunition from someone found at risk of harming him or herself or others. Or there was this from Sen. John Thune (R-South Dakota), and Ken Buck (R-Colorado); the continued sale of the AR-15 is essential because, "vermin like prairie dogs and raccoon are the main targets for people owning AR-!5 style semi-automatic rifle." All this while the world watches and shake their heads in disbelief. What is a bit troubling lately is that some Americans appear to be pledging their allegiance to flags other than the current flag of the United States. Two versions of the pledge attempted to clarify that we should be pledging to the flag of the United States of America. Note that our current national flag has no diagonal lines, letters/names, animals/snakes or yellow on it. In November, New Hampshire voters must decide whether to support those who favor making no changes, like Gov. Sununu, or to vote for candidates who will work toward lawful solutions that protect both individual liberty and public safety. In August 2019, Gov. The blue canton and the thirteen stripes are the same as the 1777 flag with thirteen stars. In his veto message, Sununu wrote that “New Hampshire is one of the safest states in the nation, and we have a long and proud tradition of responsible firearm ownership. Americans have been pledging allegiance to the flag since Christian Socialist Baptist Minister Francis Bellamy wrote the first pledge in 1892. The pledge has changed a few times since then.

“We just want Flag Day to become a more recognized and unifying day for our country. Evidently, it caught on because, in the late 1800s, schools all over the U.S. reportedly held Flag Day programs to contribute to the Americanization of immigrant children. The Department of Veterans Affairs said the most widely recognized claim for the first Flag Day service refers to an event held June 14, 1889, in New York City at a free kindergarten for the poor. A principal named George Bolch had the school hold patriotic ceremonies to observe the anniversary of the Flag Day resolution. The proclamation asks Americans to remember what the flag stands for and why you should be flying it.” The fact that school usually was out by the time Flag Day rolled around might explain why we know so little about it.
