Riverdale Season 6 Episode 17 Review: Chapter One Hundred And ... (TV Fanatic)

Betty hosts a serial killer convention to hunt down The Trash Bag Killer on Riverdale Season 6 Episode 17. Does he take the bait? Read...

And with the plagues appearing on Riverdale Season 6 Episode 18, Percival also needed an excuse to retaliate. She might be perfect for her in the long run. I liked how she talked through her fears with Archie and started to process the walls she had built up. Cheryl admitting that she wondered if they would be endgame felt like it was answering the fans' many questions. Betty choosing to stay a hero and killing TBK was a great move. Her panel discussion about the type of fanatical love seemed to foreshadow a twist. Heather seems to be a level-headed character that can see through Cheryl's eccentricities. One of the strongest parts of this chapter was how it tied Betty's character growth together after all these seasons. I liked that the tracks connected to the serial killer theme of the convention. Or, she's in love with Betty because she views Betty as the next big serial killer. Betty had put everything on the line for just one more chance to take down her tormentor, hopefully. Hosting a giant True Crime-like convention full of fans and events could sway an egomaniac like TBK to check it out.

Riverdale Boss Breaks Down Musical Episode's Big Casualty, Betty ... (TVLine)

'Riverdale's' showrunner sheds light on the big death in Season 6's musical episode — as well as Betty and Archie's relationship status.

We were debating on what the final beats of that episode would be and torn between a very big swing and a quieter ending. That said, we are so proud of the run we’ve had, and the call did come as we were working on the last episode of Season 6. How did that decision come about, and what do you have planned for Riverdale‘s final run? We now know that next season will be the final season. He will emerge before the season ends, though, right? Jughead is still in the bunker hearing voices, so we didn’t see him much this week. Percival is gearing up to take this “truly Biblical” revenge on Archie and the gang, but I noticed when he tried to control the minds of all those construction workers, his nose started bleeding a little. Cheryl was thrown by Toni and Fangs’ engagement, but she bounced back with Heather, and they took the next step. Agent Drake confessed that she’s attracted to Betty, and it seems like Betty was considering it on some level, even if just subconsciously. The encounter with TBK led Betty to almost push Archie away, but he stayed by her side, and they recommitted to their relationship. (Plus, Agent Drake revealed out of the blue that she’s attracted to Betty, which Betty politely declined… Betty pointed a gun — her father’s gun, for the record — at the killer and demanded he take off his mask, but TBK only wanted to dismember Alice and Charles with her, declaring, “We’re soulmates.” Betty stood firm, though (“I’m nothing like you”), and shot the guy dead, finally bringing an end to his reign of terror.

Riverdale Creator Teases Betty's Turning Point After Serial Killer ... (TV Guide)

Riverdale creator Roberto-Aguirre Sacasa weighs in on how the latest serial killler-themed musical episode was a turning point for Betty.

Aguirre-Sacasa: I think it's definitely a turning point, and I definitely think she and Archie are in a new place by the end of the episode. I'm not gonna lie, when we got the news, we were still working on the finale and it definitely affected how we shaped the finale and we take a really big swing to set up season 7. Aguirre-Sacasa: Yeah, he was a sort of seminal piece of Betty's backstory when we did the seven-year time jump, and he was sort of at the core of her most recent trauma when she was trapped in the well. Aguirre-Sacasa: You're right that Betty is kind of caught between TBK and Archie. It's hard to think that there's a universe in which Betty will end up with TBK, though Clarise I think does end up with Hannibal Lector in some way in one of those movies. And I'll tell you, I think we're really honoring the animating spirit of the show, which has always been to take big swings, and we're not exiting on fumes. It was a sort of bucket of cold water that made them reflect in a really good way. But more than that, TBK became the personification of a lot of Betty's trauma and anxiety and fear that she's had from when she was a child. A lot of this season has been about unpacking those chapters of her while she was being groomed by her father, and unpacking some gaslighting that Alice did. And then we said well, what if we look at a serial killer musical, so it kind of snuck up on us a little bit. Below, Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre Sacasa, who also wrote American Psycho: The Musical, takes TV Guide through the creation of this musical episode and what it all means for what comes next. TBK is now dead, and Betty seems to have finally accepted that regardless of any serial killer genes, she herself is not a serial killer. Basically, Betty ( Lili Reinhart) was desperate to finally catch her nemesis TBK (Trash Bag Killer, in case you forgot), so Veronica ( Camila Mendes) set up a serial killer convention as a trap for him.

Riverdale recap: [Spoiler] dies in the season 6 musical ... (EW.com)

Veronica is running the show at SlaughterCon, which includes a number of panels, musical numbers, and finally, a one-on-one chat with Betty Cooper, TBK's one ...

She's scared that he will be a victim of that darkness and won't want to be with her. Betty then finally comes clean to Archie, telling him that she's scared that whatever was inside her dad is inside her too and that one day she might not be able to resist it. I love the fact that Veronica is mature enough to root for her best friend and her ex. She tells TBK that she's nothing like him, then pulls the trigger on her father's gun and kills him. As he tells her that she's one of "us," she finally fights back. She knows that was a dealbreaker with Veronica, so when she asks if that's the case here, too, he tells her they should talk after they catch TBK. She tells Betty to talk to Archie and then proceeds to tell Drake to back off. She then admits that TBK might be right about her — she's not sure she wants marriage, kids, and a white picket fence, otherwise known as all the things Archie definitely wants. Archie, Toni, and Tabitha sing a song to the workers to remind them of their families. The two of them then attend Toni's bachelorette party and decide to move forward with their relationship. While Veronica and Betty kick off the convention, Percival decides to test his limits and manipulate the minds of all the workers currently on strike so they get back to work. Veronica is running the show at SlaughterCon, which includes a number of panels, musical numbers, and finally, a one-on-one chat with Betty Cooper, TBK's one survivor.

Riverdale boss says [Spoiler] is really dead, promises ... (EW.com)

'Riverdale' boss Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa says TBK really is dead, but there will be a 'wild choice' at the end of season 6.

And we were weighing a very big swing for the end of the season and into season seven. Speaking of the end of the season, Riverdale has announced that its seventh season will be its last. And according to Aguirre-Sacasa, knowing the end is in sight has freed the writers up to take some big swings toward the end of season 6. This is a big step, but it will be resolved." It's a big piece of it for sure and it's a milestone, but I feel like, for instance, there's no resolution yet for someone like Alice [Madchen Amick], who's a part of this story as well. We said, 'Is this the end of Betty's season story?' And the answer is, not quite.

Riverdale season 7: Show EP explains final season decision (CarterMatt)

In the event you did not know already, Riverdale season 7 is going to be the final one at The CW. So what inspired this choice?

Based on how we read this quote and also what we know Riverdale to be, it feels almost inevitable that there’s going to be some big cliffhanger at the end of this season. Isn’t that the right way to get everyone more excited for the future? Based on early indications, that seems to be the case.

Riverdale Explores Serial Killer Fandom in Its Latest Episode (Den of Geek)

As the TBK storyline wraps up on Riverdale, Betty learns a bit about the battle between light and dark within herself.

• Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa adapted Bret Easton Ellis’ American Psycho for the stage, a fact Veronica conveniently ignores to mention in her praise of the show. (More on this below). It didn’t really take advantage of the musical format with the exception of some fun performances that made the American Psycho stuff feel like a forced afterthought. This was a bit of an odd installment as there was so much going on besides the core Betty/TBK wrapup. But without ever learning much about TBK’s motives, the depths of his crimes and why exactly he was so obsessed with Betty in the first place, his downfall feels arbitrary and unearned. With this being Riverdale, death tends to be uncertain, but that isn’t the case here — which is a relief as the TBK saga never quite became anything more than an economy brand version of The Silence of the Lambs. This conflict rips Betty apart as each of the three offers her a chance to fully embrace not only who she is, but who she will become. Yet another example of this show discarding a villain in an unsatisfactory fashion. Betty fears that this darkness will one day consume her, and then Archie. Not even addressing how he is, you know, invulnerable now, Archie reinforces how he won’t ever give up on her and he knows that her inner light will prevail. Turns out that Drake has feelings for Betty. Correctly stating that Betty does not have to compartmentalize with her the way she does Archie, Drake awakens a curiosity within Cooper. “Everyone compartmentalizes with everyone,” Veronica tells Betty, before reading Drake the riot act for further complicating her BFF’s already tumultuous life. TBK thinks that he and Betty are soulmates, and that they can be a serial killer power couple. Returning to Archie after the deed is done, she explains how she feels that the evil that drove Hal Cooper/The Black Hood is inside of her too. With Veronica’s help she stages Slaughter Con, a serial killer fan gathering, at Babylonium, hoping to draw out TBK and stop him once and for all.
