Azerbaijan Grand Prix Odds, F1 Picks & Betting Predictions (Charlotte Observer)

Azerbaijan is a F1 racing venue where anything can happen, given its unorthodox layout. Here are the latest Azerbaijan Grand Prix Odds and our top picks.

He won the 2019 race and is one of only two drivers to win the race from pole. All licensed and legal operators in the United States have resources available to bettors, including educational guides on how to spot problem gaming, links to support services and tools to self-exclude for a set period of time. This is a week to avoid that because of the uncertainty, so don’t be afraid to get creative and opt for different builds that may not typically be comfortable. Support is available at the National Council on Problem Gaming, 1-800-GAMBLER and American Addiction Centers. Be sure to only wager on gambling sites that are licensed and regulated by the gaming regulatory body in your state. This is one of the first races of the season where it feels appropriate to really dig into game theory. The first theme is that Ferrari is underrated in its chance to overtake Red Bull for a win. Pirelli is providing the three softest tire compounds for the race, citing the speed of the track to justify its decision. Schumacher has been on the cusp of points during several different races this season, so a breakthrough at those odds isn’t a bad bet to take. Similarly, McLaren should do better in the faster portions of the track, with Mercedes better in the slower areas. Meanwhile, Schumacher has had a number of key errors that resulted in big crashes and the loss of both points and money toward the cost cap for Haas. Both will likely need to show improved form to keep their seats in 2023. Red Bull continues to talk up the threat that Mercedes poses, but that has yet to translate to race weekends. Lando Norris, George Russell and Valtteri Bottas have proven to be quick and should have the chance to contend for a podium if some luck falls their way.

Azerbaijan GP: Perez pips Leclerc by 0.070s in FP3 (Motorsport.com, Edition: Global)

Red Bull driver Sergio Perez set the fastest time in third and final practice ahead of qualifying for Formula 1's Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

That time was quickly beaten by Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, the latter leading the way with a 1m44.661s after Sainz had briefly demoted him. The start of FP3 was delayed by 15 minutes due to barrier repairs in Turn 1. The Dutchman tried again in the final minutes but was impeded by a train of traffic in the second sector after going purple in sector one, calling the traffic "unbelievable". Alex Albon was the first of the Williams cars in 17th, ahead of Mick Schumacher, with Bottas and Nicholas Latifi at the bottom of the timesheets. Twelve minutes in the first time on the board was courtesy of Mercedes, too, a still violently bouncing Russell stopping the clocks after 1m47.256s on softs. Mercedes tried to make the most of a final chance to trial much-needed set-up changes ahead of qualifying in a sunny and dry one-hour session.

The third free practice session for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix is scheduled for early Saturday afternoon. The team that we usually see back in Q3, has to recover from a poor first day in Azerbaijan. During the first two free practice sessions, the margins were minimal, although Ferrari seems to be slightly faster than Verstappen and Sergio Perez over one lap.

Slipstream Saturday: The Chaos Of The Azerbaijan Grand Prix (Frontstretch.com)

Baku, 2017. Vettel x Hamilton: Um dos momentos de MAIOR LOUCURA DA F1 NOS ÚLTIMOS ANOS.

However, their recent efforts seem to contrast with the new head of the FIA, Mohammed bin Sulayem. Aston Martin recognized Vettel for both his efforts and his allyship with the LGBTQ+ community. In reality, the graphics, marketing and engineering department have no overlap and each one is still trying to do their best. The move can easily be considered a performative nod to the queer community and requires little in the way of complex work. It’s easy to say for some, why worry about Pride when the team should be focused on making the car better? Ferrariʻs poor race management at Monaco is the type of situation that can erode confidence in a driver; seeing Red Bull again so close on the timesheets does not help in restoring it. Something about the track and the driverʻs attitudes creates an air of near absurdity and there is little reason to think that won’t happen again. The ensuing mess and required fixes to the safety barriers caused a red flag that ended when the GP resumed with a standing start. Sergio Perez took P1 and Lewis Hamilton easily overtook him, only to be felled by selecting the wrong brake mode and failing to make the first turn. Of course, the event still brought a bit of humor when Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat skimmed off each other, leaving both coming to a stop. Formula 1 has landed in Baku, Azerbaijan this weekend (June 11-12) for what has become a wild stop on the calendar. Of course, his record-breaking eight DNFs for the season did not help, either…

The session was paused for 10 minutes to add to the delayed start, while the cars most at risk of eliminated queued at the end of the pitlane in a bid to find clear track position. The Canadian locked the front-left and nosed into the Tecpro although punched reverse and was given the all-clear on damage to go again immediately for a flying lap to move into Q2. It was an evening of struggles for Bottas. The Finn had run off at Turn 3 in the first part of qualifying and then had to abort his next flying lap to leave him adrift of Zhou initially. Sainz was first to go for a final flying lap but was slow through the Turn 5-6 chicane and messy on the exit of Turn 7 to back out of his effort. That threw the attention on Leclerc, who set the fastest first and second sectors of the day to have a massive half-second cushion ahead of the flat-chat run to the line. The Ferrari driver had been adrift of teammate Carlos Sainz in the early part of Q3, but on his final flying lap turned in a rapid first two sectors to steal a march on all his rivals.

Lance Stroll was 19th after crashing twice in the first session. “We seem to lack maybe a tiny bit over one lap, but I think over the long run our car should be quite good," he said. The stewards took no action, ruling Hamilton's actions weren't dangerous and his overall lap time was fast enough. “I hit it quite hard a few times but it seems to be very strong, the car, this year,” he said. Footage from Norris' onboard camera showed Hamilton driving slowly through the narrow Old City section of the track and Norris then slowing down to match him. Formula One championship leader Max Verstappen qualified third in the other Red Bull, .347 off Leclerc's pace.

Stroll was forced to park his wounded machine as race director Niels Wittich deployed the red flag. Russell will start fifth on Sunday, two places ahead of Hamilton, who could drop further down the field if he is penalised for his qualifying misdemeanour. Q1 was red-flagged with two and a half minutes remaining after Lance Stroll crashed out. The Monégasque saw off Sergio Pérez, who took advantage of Leclerc’s flat-footed Ferrari team in Monte Carlo to claim his third career win, by 0.282sec. After claiming his sixth pole of the season and fourth in succession, Leclerc said: “All poles feel good but this one I did not expect because I thought the Red Bulls were stronger. He responded by saying: “I don’t know what you expect from me, man, sometimes.”
