“Bullet” is also an adept grappler and it is a possibility that take the most efficient route to victory getting the fight to the ground. The key to a Santos victory will be to attack with leg kicks and make Shevchenko a less mobile target. She would drop a split decision in her promotional debut to Mara Romero Borella, but has since reeled off consecutive victories over Molly McCann, Gillian Robertson, Roxanne Modafferi, and Joanne Wood to become one of the division’s must-watch prospects. But “Bullet” sees that the time is right to turn her crosshairs on a different target: the bantamweight championship. With Nunes perhaps more vulnerable than in years prior with a recent loss or an opportunity to best Peña again, becoming only the second female two-division champion in UFC history feels like the right goal to pursue next. She has the power to take the lead on Saturday, adding a young contender to a resume that already lists Holly Holm, Julianna Peña, Katlyn Chookagian, Jessica Andrade, and others.

UFC 275: Teixeira vs. Procházka prediction, odds, picks, time: Best ... (CBSSports.com)

SportsLine's Kyle Marley reveals his UFC 275 picks and predictions for Jiri Prochazka vs. Glover Teixeira.

Batgerel Danaa (-145) vs. Teixeira (33-7) has long been regarded as one of the most prolific grapplers to ever wear the UFC uniform, and his expertise in that discipline has allowed him to reach the apex of his career at age 42. Visit SportsLine now to get detailed picks on every fight at UFC 275, all from the incomparable expert who's up more than $13,000 on MMA in the past three years, and find out. Joselyne Edwards (-170) vs. Prochazka is a -200 favorite (risk $200 to win $100), while Teixeira comes back at +170 in the latest UFC 275: Teixeira vs. He's also backing a fighter to "mix in a full MMA game plan" on the way to a dominant victory. I anticipate this fight mainly taking place on the feet so I will take Kape," Marley told SportsLine. In January he lost a split decision to Brandon Royval, who is now ranked No. 5. His last fight with Rizin resulted in a first-round knockout of UFC alum C.B. Dollaway, and Prochazka was immediately pressed into action against top-five competition in the UFC. You can only see his picks at SportsLine. He watches every single fight for every professional MMA card and does extensive research before each event. His first defense comes against a celebrated prospect in the powerful Prochazka, who dominated the competition in various promotions before joining the UFC two years ago.

A big part of that, however (and a remaining struggle) seems to be distance offense and whether or not his opponents have it. And it feels like a lot of his success has come from being a better grappler than the men he’s trying to take down. And while the grind is still there, the confidence in getting to it seems to be eroding. Like 80% of his game is clinch control and grappling without the slightest threat of a finish. That’s exactly the kind of wrestling game that works best for Matthews. Add in the quick turnaround for Fialho, and this feels like a disappointing loss. Zane Simon: I love Fialho’s UFC run to date, and I really like the set of skills he’s putting together behind a heavy power-punching game. Joanna’s takedown defense is exemplary and was so in the first fight, but just the threat of Zhang’s wrestling could throw off Jedrzejczyk’s rhythm and ability to get strikes off at will. I really think it’s in her nature to engage in a firefight after getting cracked, so I believe this will still be as fun as the last one. The division is getting better and the top prospects have shown a level of physicality and dynamic fighting ability that’s just not been prevalent in a lot of the top contenders over the years. The Bloody Elbow staff has made its picks for Saturday’s UFC 275 event in Singapore, and we’re predominantly picking Jiri Prochazka to take the light heavyweight title away from Glover Teixeira in the main event. Prochazka is a terrific athlete with fantastic vision, but if Glover can even just get on top of him and slow him down for a round, that might even things up enough to make this fight really interesting. Anton Tabuena: Prochazka isn’t as tested as the veteran champion and he can also get too wild at times, so I can see Teixeira finding opportunities to either counter with a big shot or land a takedown.

UFC 275 Odds, Betting Advice: Glover Teixeira vs. Jiri Prochazka (Sports Illustrated)

Betting advice for UFC 275, headlined by UFC light heavyweight champion and underdog Glover Teixeira defending his title against Jiri Prochazka.

Since she is younger, hits harder and is the better wrestler, I’ll narrowly lean Zhang over Jedrzejczyk by decision. That is something I think she did well in the first half of the first fight. Jiri Prochazka is—in my opinion—the most-intriguing fighter in the UFC right now. Zhang Weili (-167) vs. Maheshate (+145) vs. The card is absolutely stacked with two title fights and a rematch of arguably the greatest fight in UFC history.

Zhang Weili Expects Another Thriller in Joanna Jedrzejczyk ... (Sports Illustrated)

Weil rematches Joanna Jedrzejczyk on Saturday with a shot at the UFC's strawweight title on the line.

“Every fight, when I get into the octagon, I’m very excited,” Zhang says. “Three rounds and five rounds are definitely very different,” Zhang says. ”For the first fight, I was a very stubborn fighter,” Zhang says. “I know she’s a very good striker, so for the first match, I just wanted to show that I'm better than her on the striking side. This time, Zhang said she's looking to utilize a more well-rounded approach rather than simply standing in the pocket and trying to outslug her opponent. In March 2020, China’s Zhang was still the UFC's reigning strawweight champion, while Poland's Jedrzejczyk was a former titleholder looking to regain her belt.

Sean Zerillo previews all 11 fights on Saturday's UFC 275 card and gives his picks using his betting model.

The other three opponents have gone 1-4 (with a win over Priscila Cachoeira), and two have since retired. That said, Matthews is the more diverse striker who is less likely to brawl (61% striking defense, vs. This Strawweight title eliminator is a rematch of 2020’s Fight of the Year from UFC 248. Maddalena (“JDM”) is a high-volume striker who has shown impressive boxing in his relatively limited MMA career. While I don’t project value on either side of the moneyline, I see this bout reaching a decision 44% of the time — far closer to the divisional average. JDM sets up his strikes well and knows when to take power off or add more onto his punches to change the tempo of the exchanges. I don’t see either man as a particularly potent finisher, yet this bout is expected to finish at a significant clip. While you could way for a live entry on Kang after Round 1, I’m willing to bet him at +115 or better pre-fight (projected +110). Garcia will look to mix takedowns wherever possible and win the grappling exchanges. On the feet, he’s very slow and likely to get finished unless he can slow the fight down, create extensive grappling situations, and put Allen flat on his back. Allen has some durability concerns, but Malkoun isn’t the type of fighter to threaten a knockout. If “Mr. Perfect” can weather the early storm from Danaa, he should begin to take over the fight in the final two frames.

UFC 275: Teixeira Looks to Avoid Midnight Against Electrifying ... (Cageside Press)

Glover Teixeira's title victory was one of the feel good stories of 2022, but he will need to hold off both a younger challenger and Father Time once again ...

While a UFC title victory would be a career changing moment for Prochazka, he has admitted himself that he will need to approach his battle with Teixeira differently. The challenger will need to take a more disciplined approach and pick his spots to engage with Teixeira on the feet as to leave less openings to be taken down and let the champion wear him down. After going 4-4 between 2014 and 2017, it appeared for a time that his run may not be destined to end with a UFC title. Of course, he made them count as his promotional debut in 2020 saw him stop former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir in the second round. While Teixeira had put together a five fight win-streak to return to title contention, most still expected the knockout power and experience of champion Jan Blachowicz to give him plenty to deal with. “The Natural” needed all 25 minutes to win the belt back that night, but to many that fight ended then and there.

Old school meets new school in the UFC 275 headliner as Jiri Prochazka will try to take away the light heavyweight championship from Glover Teixeira in an.

Last time, it was Weili's ability to mix things up with her takedown attempts and her power that were the difference. But Prochazka has the potential to once again give the division a star. The problem for Santos is that Shevchenko has skills wherever the fight takes place. They combined to land 351 significant strikes in an all-out donnybrook that saw Weili take the split decision. They still might not hold up to their predecessor on the card. Since he left to pursue the heavyweight title, Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira have held the title. Santos has made her mark on a division that's been run by Shevchenko for nearly four years. He has just two UFC fights to his name, but he's made the most of them. His rivalries with the likes of Daniel Cormier, Rashad Evans and Alexander Gustafsson made the division interesting and gave it a dominant champion. He'll look to add Teixeira to that reel. Teixeira took the long route to becoming a UFC champion. Shevchenko will look to continue her reign of dominance against a new contender in Santos.

UFC 275 predictions (MMA Fighting)

Can Glover Teixeira keep his fairy tale championship run going against Jiri Prochazka? Will Valentina Shevchenko make Taila Santos the next name on her hit ...

In the end, he’ll get a rare decision win and a ton of valuable experience. Della Maddalena has only once fought past the second round and it’s the bouts that go the distance that will give us a better gauge of where he stands in the loaded welterweight division. It’s going to be a standup battle, it’s going to have us on the edge of our seats, and there’s probably going to be some judging controversy after the eye-popping striking numbers are tallied. I did this for Jessica Andrade (I wasn’t the only one) and Lauren Murphy (I was one of the only ones) and I’m doing it again for Santos. Della Maddalena’s boxing is the first thing that jumps out at you when you watch the tape. When the fight breaks down into an all-out scrap, will Matthews default to his training or can he find that extra gear to push through Fialho’s power punching and answer with primal force? That said, Santos is going to give her a fight, possibly the toughest test she’s faced since winning the title. He has a huge speed and athleticism edge in the standup, so Teixiera will have to counter with fundamental boxing technique and guile to avoid a KO blow. Plus, anytime one fighter’s grappling defense is a question mark, I’m always going to favor the power of jiu-jitsu. Her first fight with Zhang Weili took an incalculable physical and mental toll on both women and while Zhang looked better in her second fight with Rose Namajunas, I have to wonder if she’s ever allowed herself time to truly recover. I’m in agreement with what UFC President Dana White said earlier this week: If Shevchenko runs through Santos like she has everyone else, I’ll be impressed and she should be allowed to fight for whatever title she wants. Should Teixeira get within grabbing range, the challenger should do everything in his power to create separation and reset in striking distance.

This is Jiri’s most likely win condition, so this will come down to Teixeira avoiding heavy strikes. Well, Prochazka may not be as egregious as Mozharov, but there are plenty of 0-1 and 0-2 opponents on his record. However, we have not seen him beat the elite-level competition. UFC 275: Silvana Gomez Juarez Knocks Out Liang Na In Highlight ... (Cageside Press)

An absolutely stunning scene early on the UFC 275 card saw Silvana Gomez Juarez knock out Na Liang in violent, highlight reel fashion.

On the other hand, Na is now on a two-fight losing streak and will most likely be fighting for her job next time out. An overhand from Na landed, and then a few seconds later, Na shot for a takedown which Juarez defended. Meanwhile, Juarez had lost two straight after arriving in the UFC on a three-fight win streak.

UFC 275: Zhang Hits Spinning Back Fist KO, Jedrzejczyk Retires ... (Cageside Press)

Weili Zhang did not leave it to the judges at UFC 275, stopping Joanna Jedrzejczyk with a spinning back fist to win their highly anticipated rematch.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Zhang fired a spinning back fist— and Jedrzejczyk hit the canvas! They continued to trade, and a massive “Weili” chant broke out at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. China’s Zhang fired a kick to the body. The Polish fighter was trapped against the fence, eating punches; she got back to her feet, but Zhang showed more of her newly honed wrestling skills, getting the fight down again. Lots of top time from Zhang; when they got up again, Jedrzejczyk appeared to nearly get the upper hand, but Zhang got her back down. It did, though it was a very different fight — one that didn’t require the full three rounds afforded to it. One of the most hotly anticipated rematches in years started off with Jedrzejczyk on the outside, using lateral movement, while Zhang tried to cut her off.

Jedrzejczyk shucked off a takedown attempt from Zhang but ate a stiff one-two combination. Jedrzejczyk rejected the idea and scrambled to freedom. The Chinese powerhouse scored multiple takedowns and punished Jedrzejczyk with ground-and-pound. Zhang wrapped up Jedrzejczyk against the fence and mauled her with strikes.

UFC 275 - Who's next for Jiri Prochazka, Valentina Shevchenko and ... (ESPN)

One title changed hands while a second was barely retained. Who gets the next shot? Brett Okamoto plays matchmaker after UFC 275.

And the next contender will be the winner of this fight in August. It's a defensible position to say the UFC should run this back, but I don't think it'll happen. Teixeira said in the Octagon he would like to keep going, and he certainly is capable of doing so. Rodriguez is deserving of a title shot, frankly; she's just not as deserving as Zhang. I think this is a great option for Teixeira. And again, it has nothing to do with his ability. You have to be elite to beat Chookagian at flyweight right now, and Santos just proved -- even in a loss -- that she is. Zhang just put a massive exclamation mark on this rivalry with Jedrzejczyk. Zhang has never looked better, and she sported some outstanding wrestling on Saturday. Her decision-making and creativity -- it's all there. That fight ended when Rakic suffered a leg injury, but the victory still goes on Blachowicz's record -- and that record looks good, as he has won six of his past seven bouts. With under a minute left in the fifth round of the main event at UFC 275 in Singapore, Glover Teixeira looked like he was about to put it on cruise control for a decision win. The other champion in the night heard ... "and still!" He also showed a lot of heart and championship grit in Saturday's victory. After the bout, Jedrzejczyk placed her gloves on the mat and retired from the sport.

UFC 275 results, highlights: Jiri Prochazka wins light heavyweight ... (CBSSports.com)

Teixeira shot again and Prochazka tried to roll back to his feet but Teixeira landed in mount. Prochazka was able to quickly get back to his feet and landed a good combination of elbows and punches to the head before drilling Teixeira to the body with a huge punch. Shevchenko landed a big head kick but it came after a kick to the groin. With the fight seemingly in the balance, Teixeira put the fight on the ground and seemed to be fully in control until Prochazka was able to kick off the cage and reverse the position. Prochazka was able to explode back to his feet and immediately went on the attack. Teixeira mixed punches and elbows to the face as Prochazka tried to wall walk but allowed Teixeira to take his back in the process. Prochazka was left with a massive cut over his left eye from big Teixeira strikes from mount, but every time Teixeira appeared to have grabbed control, Prochazka would find a way out of trouble and back to his feet. Teixeira shot for a takedown out of desperation and fought on well but the body work clearly took a toll. The narrative entering the UFC 275 main event between light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira and top challenger Jiri Prochazka was that Prochazka needed to do everything in his power to stay off the ground if he wanted to become champion. Prochazka chose to get back to the feet and started to pump the jab. Prochazka managed to get to the back and locked in a rear-naked choke and Teixeira tapped out with 30 seconds left in the fight! Teixeira landed a lot of heavy shots on the feet again and drove Prochazka back to the cage looking for a takedown but Prochazka broke away.

UFC 275: Jiri Procházka stuns Glover Teixeira for title in instant classic (The Guardian)

I want to be a businesswoman. I want to be a mom. Moments earlier, Shevchenko (23-3) was tested from the opening round by Santos, who won four straight fights to earn her first UFC title shot. The Chinese veteran left no doubt the second time, ending the bout with the spectacular spinning strike that ended it. Both fighters were bleeding from cuts in the third round, and Procházka also wobbled Teixeira in the middle rounds before his dramatic finish. Procházka survived nearly five rounds of consistent punishment from the 42-year-old Teixeira, who became a first-time UFC champion at 205lbs late last year.

The new champion also earned some star power with his style of fighting that leaves him in vulnerable positions.

The fact that Jedrzejczyk hadn't fought in two years seemed to catch up with her. Two of the three judges agreed that Shevchenko had won the second round, which opened the door for her to rally in the championship rounds by sweeping both on all three cards to steal the victory. The swing round in this case appeared to be Round 2 when Santos continued her success on the ground. Jedrzejczyk's five consecutive title defenses from 2015-17 remains the most successful reign in 115-pound history. Shevchenko, who briefly secured a triangle choke attempt on the ground, got the better of the standup that round and was also much busier offensively while her back was stuck to the ground. In just his third UFC fight, the 29-year-old native of the Czech Republic is now a champion. Either way, it's a fight fans won't soon forget as each warrior was willing to persevere through extreme damage and fatigue until an uncharacteristic mistake from Teixeira in Round 5 led to his heartbreaking defeat while ahead on two of three scorecards (with the third one even). This fight had a shocking ending similar to Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen I yet was much sloppier and frenetic than most great title bouts as technique largely went out the window in this veritable street fight. Subscribe to Morning Kombat with Luke Thomas and Brian Campbell for the best analysis and in-depth news, including instant analysis of UFC 275 at the conclusion of the PPV event. But it's the incredible intangibles he employed in rallying to victory that will keep them coming back to the turnstiles to watch him compete. Meanwhile, in the co-main event, women's flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko was forced to rally and hang on for a disputed split-decision win against Taila Santos. From an action standpoint alone, Prochazka's submission win with just 28 seconds to go in the final round easily belongs alongside Jon Jones-Alexander Gustafsson I, Zhang-Jedrzejczyk I and Frankie Edgar-Gray Maynard II as the best championship tilts in the 29 years UFC has been in business. Thanks to his willingness to so often go against the grain of what is considered the orthodox norm in this sport, it's very likely no one will.
