Holly Clouse, who went missing as a baby, found over 40 years after ... (CBS News)

A baby who has been missing since her parents were found dead in a wooded area in Houston in 1981 has been found, Texas authorities announced.

"The very first thing that ran through my head when we heard Holly was found was the call that I got eight months ago … about my sister's death," Tina Clouse's brother, Les Linn, said in a statement. A group of either two or three women, all wearing robes, and possibly a male met the family, who had contacted authorities. Webster said the family who raised Clouse aren't considered suspects in the killing of her biological parents. In late December 1980 or early January 1981, the families of Clouse's parents received a call from a person who identified herself as "Sister Susan," Webster said. Members of the group are believed to have traveled in Arizona, California and possibly Texas, Webster said. As a baby, Clouse was left at an Arizona church, Webster said.

They were barefoot and identified themselves as members of a “nomadic religious group” that believed in “the separation of male and female members,” as well as a vegetarian lifestyle. “It is such a blessing to be reassured that she is alright and has had a good life.” Sister Susan added that she had the couple’s car and would return it to Florida in exchange for money, Webster said. And it was genetic genealogy that helped Texas investigators identify the bodies of the Clouses more than 40 years after their remains were found. On Thursday, the Texas Attorney General’s Office announced that Holly, now 42 and a married mother of five, has been found living in Oklahoma, the Chronicle reported. What puzzled their family members after the discovery, however, were the whereabouts of the couple’s infant, Holly, who had gone missing with Tina and Harold in 1980.

Holly Marie Clouse was found by the Office of the Texas Attorney General's new Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit.

“The whole family slept well last night. “What matters,” Peacock said, “is that Holly was found happy and alive and now knows that she has a huge extended family that has loved her for decades.” CNN reported that Holly Marie was turned over to officials at an Arizona church as an infant. A search was conducted in three states for records of Holly Marie Clouse. Family History Detectives launched the Hope For Holly DNA Project and became custodian, they said, of the genetic profiles of several of Holly’s family members. “It’s one of the most meaningful things I’ve ever been a part of,” said Detective Steve Wheeler of the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. “It’s a once in a lifetime thing to play even a small part in reuniting a family after 40 years.” Now, after being “missing” for more than 40 years, the woman who had been known as “Baby Holly Marie,” has been reunited with her extended family as a result of an investigation by the Office of the Texas Attorney Genera’s new Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit.

The mystery behind who killed the girl's parents more than 40 years ago remains unsolved and has authorities seeking the public's help.

In late December 1980 or early January 1981, the missing couple’s family received a telephone call from a woman identifying herself only as “Sister Susan.” The woman said she was calling from Los Angeles to explain that the missing couple had joined their religious group, renounced all her worldly possessions and wanted no further contact with their families. The women were taken into custody and the car was turned over to Donna Casasanta, Harold Dean Clouse’s mother, but no case file about the women’s arrest could be found by Florida authorities, Webster said. It was not known how the women came into possession of the infant. Hours after the stunning revelation, the Oklahoma woman was introduced to her grandmother, aunts and uncles during a Zoom call. As for the missing infant, it wasn’t until Tuesday, when modern technology led investigators into her workplace, that the now 42-year-old woman would learn of her biological family and her tragic background. The Harris County medical examiner’s office said the man had been beaten to death, while the woman had been strangled.

“My office diligently worked across state lines to uncover the mystery surrounding Holly’s disappearance. Baby Holly” Crouse, now aged 42, was not found with her parents at the murder scene and her parents were not identified until 2021 using DNA tests.

Holleman, who was present at the meeting with Holly, declined to comment publicly on the investigation other than to say “he is glad this family could be reunited and find some answers after so many decades,” according to a news release from the city of Lewisville. Last year, Identifinders International used genetic genealogy to identify those victims as Tina Gail Linn Clouse, 17, and Harold Dean Clouse Jr., 21, a young couple who had been living in Lewisville and were missing.

Baby Holly's parents were found slain in Houston but no one knew what happened to their daughter – until now.

“Baby Holly has been located alive and well and is now 42 years of age. “I hadn’t slept the whole night in 42 years, and that’s the truth.” “Baby Holly” Crouse, now 42, had been missing ever since her parents were found slain at a murder scene in 1981. According to Webster, one woman, who called herself “sister Susan,” had contacted members of the Linn and Clouse families in either late 1980 or early 1981 and told them Tina and Dean Jr. had joined their group and no longer wanted to have contact with their families. They hope the latest developments lead to a break in the case. “I was crying for joy, because we’ve all been praying that we would find her and she would be okay – and she’d had a family that took care of her and raised her proper … we were very glad for that.”

“It was extremely surreal,” said Allison Peacock, of FHD Forensics and who served as the other genetic genealogist on the case. The whole family slept well last night,” said Cheryl Clouse, Holly’s aunt, in a statement to the Chronicle. But even with the discovery of Holly, the case still isn’t cracked. “I personally am so relieved to know Holly is alive and well and was well cared for, but also torn up by it all. They contacted Debbie Brooks, Harold’s sister in Kentucky, and unearthed the couple’s long-unknown identities. That baby was her life.” Yet, the homicide was a strange mystery until they were identified by the team in 2021. I hadn’t slept the whole night in 42 years, and that’s the truth.” She received letters from her son throughout the family’s travels, until October of 1980 when they abruptly stopped. At the time, she didn’t know why they halted so suddenly, but one day, she received an odd anonymous call a few months later. According to Harold’s family, he was always a troublemaker. “She looks a lot like her mother…
