Oklahoma softball dominates rival Texas in game one of the WCWS championship series. Led by sluggers Jocelyn Alo and Tiare Jennings 16-1.
Should the Sooners prove victorious Thursday evening they will win their sixth National Championship and second in a row. Alo got to the plate and got the home run party going, sending a two-run blast in into the bleachers. Trautwein sat the Longhorns down in order in the second inning OU added a run and extended their lead to 6-1. The Sooners are coming for it all, and Jocelyn Alo and Tiare Jennings let ESPN reporter Holly Rowe know that in a postgame interview. Oklahoma was well on their way to another run-rule victory and already had 40 on the season. The legendary Oklahoma line-up did not let up. The Sooners blackened the eyes of Texas to the tune of 16-1. In the home half of that same inning, however, Oklahoma quickly erased the one-run deficit with home runs by Jocelyn Alo and Taylon Snow to go up 5-1. OMG the power of the@OU_Softballtandem of ALO & JENNINGS is unbelievable . The Sooners lead @TexasSoftballin national championship game 1 14-1. Oklahoma set multiple NCAA records in the game. It was 5-1 Sooners but they were just getting started. After giving up a double, Trautwein walked three straight batters, bringing in a run for Texas. The fans from Austin were loud, proud, and letting the world know.
The Sooner slugger continues to set records in her final WCWS, yet opponents can't simply pitch around her due to the strength of OU's lineup.
“But, no, I mean, we've got to score runs to beat them. “But Jennings was on time the whole night. “When she comes up, I'm expecting her to hit a home run, probably like anybody else. “We're not making the pitches to get her out, or they're making the adjustments, knowing what we're throwing. That's a lot of power, by the way. “If you look at the first home run, look at the replay, it hit her halfway up the handle.
OU's defense held Texas in check, and the Sooner offense took over late to clinch the program's sixth National Championship.
May rung up a strikeout and a fly out before the defense again made an impactful play. Coleman again proved to be the eraser, firing a missile to second base and throwing Smith out. They love to win. They want to win. They like to win. Transfer pitcher Hope Trautwein was then called upon to close. It was her first home run in 20 games — which was Oklahoma’s last regular season matchup against the Longhorns. "When they're behind us, it just kind of feels like a tidal wave. "I told the team before we even started in this tournament defense plays a huge role. It's kind of like there's no escaping us at that point." "I was really proud of her efforts and trying to make some things happen defensively. Bahl erased a leadoff walk in the third with a strikeout and an outstanding effort by shortstop Grace Lyons to turn a double play, keeping OU in the game while the offense dialed in on Czech.
The Oklahoma softball team overcame an early deficit to beat Texas 10-5 and win its second-straight national championship.
The greatest home run hitter ever ended her career with a second WCWS title -- perhaps the most impressive one ever won in college softball history.
"I don't know what next year holds, but I know that they could make a run for the best team, too, and years to come." "Lynnsie Elam is our captain and has been our captain and is the glue that makes this team stick," Gasso said. "She has built a brand that stands for excellence and stands for a bar that has been raised above others. "She goes out and hits a home run," Snow said. But when Gasso felt the need to split time and get fellow catcher Kinzie Hansen on the field last season, Elam didn't put up a fight. "You know, I played in three more and sadly lost all of them," Stoops said, laughing. Young and ambitious, having left the center of the softball universe of the West Coast for her first Power 5 job more than 1,300 miles away, Gasso put her head down and went to work scouting junior colleges for a quick infusion of talent. WHEN THIS MARCH toward immortality began in the fall of 1994, there was no stadium for Oklahoma softball to call home. Fifty-nine wins and the best batting average and the best ERA in college softball this season speaks for itself. Gasso had to admit that when it came to her star slugger, Alo, she even began to anticipate a home run every at-bat. And it was a question about the D-word -- dynasty -- that got her. "I don't know how to answer," she continued tentatively.

A recent data analysis by USA TODAY determined OU was one of many of the nation's largest and best-known universities that manipulated roster numbers to inflate the reported number of women participating. It will have 3,000 seats, more than doubling the permanent seating of Marita Hynes Field, and it will have room to expand. Coale was hired from the high-school ranks, Norman High to be exact, and lots of folks believed OU hired her as a cost-cutting measure. She has been spurred by the crowds the Sooners played in front of this spring. The Sooners struggled to overcome it in recruiting, fundraising and even on the court. Soon after OU softball won its first national title in the spring of 2000, all the head coaches came together for a meeting. Hynes and her Sooners were driving through a desolate part of Arizona when one of the vans started flashing its headlights. Relish what the Sooners did this season, this postseason and this past week. “The most routine groundout will be like the greatest play in history when you watch how they celebrate. “It’s really unique and super cool to witness.” Tiare Jennings, Jayda Coleman and Jordy Bahl are already among the best players in the country. There have been lots of great Sooner teams, namely the 1974 OU football team which had eight All-Americans and outscored opponents 473-92. OU outscored opponents 64-17 at the WCWS. That’s a crazy score differential. “They play with such an infectious, positive energy, and I love how they pull for each other,” he said. It seems unlikely, but that’s where the Sooners are. Hard to argue that after OU outscored its opponents 579-65 this season. Hands from amid the fray then started shooting into the air with index fingers raised.

Here comes Texas coming back, and I'm trying to give Joce a hurrah,' " Gasso said with a sigh. The lefthanded Coleman wheeled and fired a laser to second base, where Lyons applied the tag to rob Smith of a double. "If Jayda could get up on the wall and reach, she's going to catch it, and I know that about her. "I was a little sick to my stomach for a second as I saw it getting some distance," Gasso said. This gem of a sequence noticeably ignited Bahl's fire as she authoritatively struck out Lauren Burke to end the inning. "I was really proud of her efforts and trying to make some things happen defensively. It was around this time OU's bats awoke after going scoreless the first three innings. "That was a big momentum turn for us because easily the score could have looked a lot different than 2-0," Gasso said. "I would say with me being a senior, I think this is the best team," Alo said with a smile. Coleman's first catch was against the outfield wall off the bat of Mary Iakopo with runners at second and third. "I'm going to let you decide," Gasso told a roomful of reporters afterward. "You guys all have the stats and all that stuff.
