Lauren Boebert investigated for mileage reimbursement, tax liens (Salon)

Group that helped defeat Madison Cawthorn alleges Boebert used bogus campaign reimbursements to pay off tax liens. By Igor Derysh.

Boebert has faced several complaints to the Federal Election Commission but the agency has been gripped by hopeless partisan gridlock. In late 2020, Boebert reimbursed herself for the mileage and paid off the liens. The aides also said that Boebert paid off the tax liens before the reimbursement hit her bank account. "Colorado deserves more than an irresponsible, loudmouth member of Congress," Wheeler told the outlet. The Denver Post reported in February 2021 that Boebert paid herself more than $22,000 in mileage reimbursements, sparking questions from campaign finance watchdogs. - Lauren Boebert admits to campaign finance problems: "I under-reported a lot of stuff" to the FEC

"Colorado citizens should be disgusted with Lauren Boebert. Lauren Boebert created this problem on her own and is finally going to be held accountable. "As you are both fully aware, utilizing an illegal source of funds or ill-gotten funds to pay off a tax lien is illegal in Colorado and under federal law," the PAC's complaint wrote. However, the complaint suggests there was an inappropriate use of funds on Boebert's part, among other allegations. The officials are also examining whether Boebert used around $20,000 in donor cash to pay tax liens on her restaurant, Shooters Grill, per the outlet. Meanwhile, representatives for Boebert told The Times that the lawmaker had accounted for the mileage and paid off the tax liens before the donor reimbursements were banked. Boebert paid off the liens in late 2020 and reimbursed herself for campaign travel during the same period.

According to the group, Boebert accumulated eight tax liens between August 2016 and February 2020 that were filed for failure to pay Colorado unemployment premiums on her restaurant. "As you are both fully aware, utilizing an illegal source of funds or ill-gotten funds to pay off a tax lien is illegal in Colorado and under federal law," American Muckrakers PAC's president, David Wheeler, wrote in a June 1 letter to the state labor department and Colorado attorney general. The group said it uncovered information indicating Boebert used money that was "obtained illegally" to pay off $20,000 in tax liens placed by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment on her business, Shooters Grill. "In other words, you cannot use federal campaign funds to pay off your tax liens by reimbursing yourself for miles you didn't drive. "I represent over 50,000 square miles of Colorado; I connect with the people I serve rather than sitting at home in a basement like most Leftists." In a statement in response to the action from the state attorney general, Wheeler lambasted Boebert, calling her a "clown that can't even pay her employees money owed to them or pay the appropriate taxes."

He wrote in an email that the office “referred (the complaint) to the appropriate agencies to evaluate the allegations and whether any legal actions are justified, which is our standard practice.” We hope voters will help us fire Boebert by supporting Don Coram for Congress. Rep. Lauren Boebert Being Investigated for Fraud — Here's Why (Market Realist)

Rep. Lauren Boebert is being investigated for fraud in regards to ill-gotten campaign funds that she allegedly used to bail out her struggling restaurant.

According to The New York Times, the suspicion is that she inflated her miles for 2020 and then used the reimbursement money to pay for tax liens that her restaurant Shooters Grill incurred. Deputy Attorney General for Colorado Janet Drake sent an email to PAC claiming that regulatory authorities will collaborate with the necessary organizations to address the possible crime. Many stated that sometimes they were paid out of the register, in cash, and without tax deductions. According to The Denver Post, Boebert recently paid $20,000 in tax liens, which were created due to her not paying for unemployment premiums incurred by the restaurant. It was revealed back in 2021 that Boebert cashed two checks that came out to $22,259 for her campaign mileage reimbursement. She allows restaurant staff members to openly carry firearms in her restaurant.
