Warriors mailbag: What can Golden State do to help Klay Thompson ... (San Francisco Chronicle)

Before the Golden State Warriors play Game 3 of the NBA Finals, Connor Letourneau fields...

He is in the running for the Jazz job. It’s time for the Warriors to start making good on their “Strength in Numbers” mantra. It’s worth noting, though, that this lineup thrived in garbage time against the Celtics’ reserves. I personally don’t expect him to play Wednesday. Given how injury-prone he has been all season, the Warriors are probably better off just shutting him down and letting him serve as another assistant coach of sorts. Do you see Iguodala and GPII a part of the rotation together? Unless someone like Payton or Otto Porter Jr. gets injured, I would actually be a little surprised if either Kuminga or Moody got meaningful run in these Finals. Kerr needs to stick with the players he can depend upon. Boston has done a great job of getting physical with Golden State, and making players like Jordan Poole and Thompson uncomfortable. Though he shot 3-for-4 from the field and grabbed five rebounds, he committed three fouls and posted a plus-minus of minus-7. The Warriors need someone to emerge as a reliable No. 2 option to Stephen Curry. Will Thompson snap out of his mini shooting slump? Luke Walton? Frank Vogel to handle the defense? He’s aware that his recent struggles have been a national talking point, and I know he is eager to silence his doubters. Believe it or not, Thompson was the Warriors’ most efficient pick-and-roll scorer during the regular season.

Warriors need Klay Thompson to figure it out if they're going to win ... (For The Win)

Over the years, we've gotten used to Klay Thompson's dynamite scoring. His career 41-percent shooting from three is one of the best in NBA history.

Consistently great play, however — and not just in Game 6 — could very well lead to another title for the Warriors. After Poole stepped up in Game 2, it’d be great for the Warriors if Thompson could now have a moment to himself. On the NBA’s biggest stage, against one of the league’s top defensive teams in the Celtics, the Warriors need Thompson to step up. The over/under for Thompson’s points is 18.5 (-118 for the over) — fourth-best among both squads combined. The bucket-getters have to put the ball in the hoop consistently. His career 41-percent shooting from three is one of the best in NBA history.

Should Warriors be concerned about Klay Thompson? Debating ... (Sporting News)

Scott Rafferty (@crabdribbles): It's been a tough NBA Finals for Klay Thompson so far. In Golden State's Game 1 loss, Thompson finished with 15 points on ...

Sure, it's still a tough shot, but it's within the flow of the offense — and it's one Klay is capable of making. I think we're on the same page that we're not overly concerned with Klay's start to the Finals yet. I think he's earned the right to take a tough shot or two in the post. Look, Jordan Poole is trying to get Klay to come off the Bjelica screen to put him in a position to make a play. Look, part of what makes Klay Thompson special is that he is one of the greatest shooters the game has ever seen, and to be a great shooter in the NBA, you have to have confidence. This is part of the process to get him there. No, but in the context of the game, I'm not going to crush him for that look. It wasn't a two-point game with five minutes left in the fourth quarter. Gay: It was less than a minute into the half. For the rest of Klay's career, he's going to be judged on his shot-making ability. He's also been pretty up and down in the postseason — not a huge surprise considering the injuries he's coming back from — so it's not like this slump came out of nowhere. I think we can agree that if the Warriors keep getting this version of Klay Thompson, one that has had little to no impact in both games, then they probably won't win the title.

Klay Thompson Might Be Dealing With More Than A Shooting ... (Basketball Forever)

ESPN NBA analyst Jay Williams thinks Klay Thompson is not in a shooting slump, but instead thinks it may be a case of "heavy legs."

On Tuesday’s episode of the Keyshawn, JWill, & Max Show, Williams said he thinks the star is in a different stage of his career. Instead, he offered Thompson may simply be a different player at this stage of his career. The series is tied 1-1 after the Celtics managed to win Game 1 on the road.
