Draymond Green's Mom Called Out Celtics Players Before Game 3 (CalBearsMaven)

The Warriors forward continues to be the center of drama both on and off the court in this year's NBA playoffs.

Just go ahead and play the game.” Just play the game. Green’s mother Mary Babers-Green, however, thinks the Celtics players are to blame for the on-court drama, specifically Boston’s Jaylen Brown. She did not appreciate the Celtics forward saying that Green should’ve been ejected during the game.

Maxwell and Green have engaged in a back-and-forth over the Warriors' style of play versus physicality in the '80s.

Golden State shook it off to tie the series with a 107-88 blowout in Game 2, but Maxwell was not impressed with the way Green chose to play. "Some of the guys that be talking weren't the guys that was punching people," Green said. Needless to say, Maxwell was not a fan of this response. "There were a few guys back then that would lay you out, that would knock you out, that would foul you and get thrown out the game: Bill Laimbeer, Rick Mahorn. But everyone running around acting like they were that. Boston started the series in dominating fashion after a massive fourth quarter gave them a 120-108 win in Game 1. Maxwell did not believe in Golden State's toughness before the series even began.

Cedric Maxwell to Draymond Green: 'Ask Your Daddy Who I Was' (Sportscasting)

The banter between former Boston Celtics star Cedric Maxwell and Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green continues.

A lot of the shenanigans that’s going on in the game right now with Draymond would not have been tolerated during the ’80s. Maxwell certainly found himself in the middle of many brawls. There was a lot of pushing, elbowing, and trash-talking to try and get the Boston player off their game. They act like guys was just walking around the court and like, ‘I’m hitting that guy in the nose.’ Green was the talk of Game 2. Maxwell came back and implied that Green didn’t know what he was talking about since he wasn’t even born when he played.

The Celtics on the floor and the fans in the stands will be doing their best to try to influence a repeat of Game 3. In terms of the overall performance, Green's showing on Wednesday night was the first of its kind. Green was called for a foul for grabbing Grant Williams on one Celtics possession early in the second quarter, then drew an offensive foul on Williams on the next Boston possession. With just over four minutes remaining in the game, amid a mad scramble for a loose ball, Green threw a light shove into Marcus Smart. In doing so, Green picked up his sixth foul of the game. The Warriors were outscored by 13 points when Green was on the floor, a stark contrast from his impactful performance one game earlier. BOSTON -- Draymond Green entered Game 3 of the NBA Finals with a spotlight on him.

“I have all the confidence in the world in Draymond Green,” Thompson said. Just three nights after his trash talk and dominant defense propelled the Warriors to a Game 2 win in San Francisco, Green was a liability on both ends of the floor. However, it might be the first time he played so poorly on the biggest of stages. It was midway through the fourth quarter of the Warriors’ 116-100 loss to the Celtics in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night, and Green had just endured perhaps the worst performance of his playoff career. The Warriors’ emotional leader, Green struggled to channel his signature tenacity as his team dug a 15-point hole late in the first quarter. Added Warriors head coach Steve Kerr: “He had a tough game, but I trust Draymond as much as I trust anybody.

Warriors news: Draymond Green gets brutally honest on ugly Game 3 (ClutchPoints)

Warriors star Draymond Green didn't mince words when describing his horrible performance in Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Celtics.

Steve Kerr, however, is not making a big deal of Green’s latest setback. Green fouled out of the contest and finished with a brutal stat line of two points, four rebounds and three assists. True enough, Draymond Green was non-impactful in Game 3 and “soft” might just be the most apt word to describe his performance.

Draymond Green, the Warriors' emotional leader, got lost in Game 3 (The Athletic)

"(Green's) one of our best players," Steve Kerr said. "We rely on him for his energy and his brain. … He'll bounce back. He always does."

It is now on Green to get back on that knife’s edge again, in what will be a must-win for Golden State on Friday night. He bounced back with a strong Game 2, with an impact that didn’t show up on the stat sheet (nine points, five rebounds). As ever with Green, it’s the snarls, the skirmishes, the way he gets under the opponent’s skin and drives them to distraction. But like I said, (also) knowing the No. 1 adjustment is the force that I play with. Laimbeer literally wore a snazzy black fedora in Portland in 1990 as he completely discombobulated the Trail Blazers emotionally, taking control of a series that was 1-1 coming to the Rose City, with the Blazers having three consecutive games on their home floor. That Laimbeer, a four-time All-Star who averaged double figures in rebounds for seven straight seasons, and was a two-time NBA champion who grabbed more than 10,000 rebounds, isn’t in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame remains a terrible sore spot for Pistons fans. By game’s end, Green was reduced to screaming at referee Courtney Kirkland after fouling out with 4:07 left — no foul was called on Al Horford after he fell on a prone Curry as both dove for a loose ball. “We rely on him for his energy and his brain. Even now, after going just 1-of-4 from the floor and grabbing only four rebounds in 35 minutes, Green wore the black hat comfortably. It has been this way around Green for so long that the Warriors didn’t even seem to notice. It’s been like that the whole playoffs, every run we’ve made over the course (of the past few years). He expects it. Another day in the life of Green, who played, in his own words, “like s—” and “soft” in the Celtics’ 116-100 victory over the Warriors, giving Boston a 2-1 series lead. Then little Deuce and Green’s son, D.J., who’d sat on the podium with his father, took a picture together.

Draymond Green was clearly Public Enemy No. 1 at TD Garden in Boston during Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night.

Green was roundly booed by the Boston faithful during pregame introductions, and then later when he touched the ball in the first quarter of Game 3. This is hardly the first time that Green has been singled out by another team’s fanbase. If Green’s plan was to get under the skin of the Celtics and their fans, he was successful.

Being a Warriors fan must be relatively easy, at least compared to most other teams in any other sport. You already have three championships in the bag.

You know that he knows it, and it must be more upsetting to think that he doesn’t know. You watch Draymond’s highest total on a night be his fouls and conversations with refs and there have to be palpitations. It’s not always on the cover of the magazine, but it’s there in the middle if you look for it. It’s not going in, and you know it, and something must’ve gone wrong for it to have happened at all. If you know your shit, then you know all the things that Draymond Green does that helps the Warriors win. They’re still there, they’re just shrouded in people who want to be part of the party.
