Golden State Warriors vs Boston Celtics Jun 8, 2022 Game - Scores ... (NBA.com)

The Celtics look to right the ship and embrace the comforts of home on Wednesday when they host Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.

If I can get in those one-on-one matchups and be able to play-make out of that and read the defense well, we can create a lot of good shots. Then when we have good offense and good shots, that helps our defense a lot. And Boston will try to rebound against a Golden State team that has won at least one road game in each of its last 26 playoff series, an NBA record run that began in 2013. The status of Celtics big man Robert Williams III could be something to watch after he was listed as questionable with left knee soreness. Right now, we're here playing a different opponent, a different team, and we've got to look at it as such. Unfortunately for Boston, it was done in by being outscored 35-14 in a disastrous third quarter on Sunday to see a modest halftime deficit balloon to 23 points.

Celtics' Hoop Ruled Too Tall After Complaints During Pregame ... (Sports Illustrated)

Game 3 of the NBA Finals was nearly played under unusual circumstances.

Sidney jumps up to grab the rim and deduces that it is, in fact, regulation. While this is certainly an unusual occurrence, let’s hope that pre-game hoop height checks become the norm for this series going forward, just to be safe. After his first attempt fails, he looks gobsmacked at the basket and asks a critical question: “ Is this s— regulation?”

The Warriors forward continues to be the center of drama both on and off the court in this year's NBA playoffs.

Just go ahead and play the game.” Just play the game. Green’s mother Mary Babers-Green, however, thinks the Celtics players are to blame for the on-court drama, specifically Boston’s Jaylen Brown. She did not appreciate the Celtics forward saying that Green should’ve been ejected during the game.

The pick: Poole over 12.5 points That way, you get a boost if Smart's ankle really prevents him from playing major minutes, as White would then take on a bigger playmaking load, and if the Celtics are going smaller, White will have an easier time pulling in a few stray rebounds as well. Gary Payton II coming back gave the Warriors yet another weapon on the perimeter, and Draymond Green spent plenty of Game 2 on Jaylen Brown as well. He's been to the Finals five times and has five games below 25 percent from 3. The Celtics seem to be figuring out that going small is their best bet against the Warriors. Marcus Smart playing just 25 minutes in Game 2 was concerning, but Payton Pritchard has done an admirable job defensively thus far. CBS Sports will be providing daily picks for the duration of the postseason.

NBA Finals 2022 - Boston Celtics use size, quickness to regain ... (ESPN)

Boosted by the home crowd, Boston came out strong and asserted its will inside en route to a Game 3 victory.

In Game 3, Boston had attempted 14 shots at the rim by halftime, along with drawing four shooting fouls, with Brown leading the attack. Curry limped off the floor and did not return -- though neither did the rest of the Warriors' starters with Golden State trailing by 14. For all of their advantages inside, the Celtics consigned themselves to the perimeter and midrange in Game 2, attempting only six shots at the rim. In Game 3, he asserted himself as an initiator in the Celtics' half-court game. But on Wednesday, Boston's D showed off its versatility while Brown and Tatum turned in mature, heady performances that seized control of the game in the first half. For all the celebration of skill and small ball in recent years, the NBA still rewards size and quickness at big moments.

Curry has been the undisputed MVP for the Warriors throughout the playoffs, and even in Game 3, his 15-point third-quarter performance was the reason Golden State was back in this game. After the game, Curry said he had pain in his foot, but was hopeful he could play in Game 4. He slowly got up and was limping around and remained in the game, but he didn't look the same after that incident. Stephen Curry scored a game-high 31 points on 12-of-22 shooting and had 15 in the third quarter as the Warriors momentarily held the lead. Boston, up 2-1 in the Finals, withstood a third-quarter charge from Golden State, and put the game away in the fourth quarter. Boston Celtics Withstand Stephen Curry's 3-pointers for Game 3 Win (The New York Times)

Golden State's Curry had 31 points, including six 3-pointers, but Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and Jayson Tatum had big games of their own for Boston.

It was an anxious moment for the Celtics, who could have folded but instead revealed their toughness once more. Boston shot 57.4 percent from the field to take a 68-56 lead at halftime. Early in the fourth quarter, Smart banked in a 3-pointer. All eyes, though, were on the start of the second half. Golden State got off to a brutal start, missing 11 of its first 15 field-goal attempts as Boston ran out to a 24-9 lead. The third quarter was particularly problematic for the Celtics in Game 2, when they shot 4 of 17 from the field, committed five turnovers and were outscored, 35-14. The Celtics are chasing their 18th championship, while Golden State is making its sixth finals appearance in eight seasons. The rim was soon lowered to its proper 10-foot height, but it did not seem to help. BOSTON — It was only the second quarter, but the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum seemed determined to build on a theme as he eyed an opportunity on Wednesday night. And while Boston is making its first finals appearance since 2010, Celtics Coach Ime Udoka said he hoped to emulate Golden State’s long-term success. The Celtics did most of their damage in the paint, where they outscored Golden State, 52-26. Game 4 is in Boston on Friday.

The Celtics outlasted the Warriors 116-110 in Game 3 and took a two-games-to-one series lead in the NBA Finals.

In the first half, they were outrebounded by 10 boards and the Celtics scored twice as many points in the paint -- 32 to 16. If the Warriors plan to even things up again Friday night, they have to be tougher and more engaged from the start. The heartbeat who was full of energy in Game 2, finished with two points, four rebounds, three assists and fouled out with four minutes remaining in the game. What else is there to say about the three-time MVP? Curry scored 14 points in the first half, and came out of halftime a man on a mission. Jaylen Brown scored 17 points in the first quarter and wound up with 27. He scored 31 points and drilled six 3-pointers.

NBA Finals: Warriors go on inspired third quarter run, Celtics ... (Pacifica Tribune)

The Warriors went on another big third quarter run, but the Celtics had a fourth quarter answer in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

Boston bested the Warriors 11-4 in the first four minutes of the final quarter, pulling ahead 104-93. But unlike Game 2, Boston continued to battle back, regaining control of the game to take a 93-89 lead heading into the fourth quarter. After another impressive offensive display, Curry was visibly shaken up in the closing minutes of the game as Celtics center Al Horford rolled up on Curry’s left leg while diving for a loose ball late in the fourth quarter. Why we didn’t sustain it, I don’t know I have to go back and watch the film and see where we let go of the rope at,” said Green, who admittedly played “like s—” and finished with two points, four rebounds and three assists. “Credit to them.” “We’ve been in this situation before.

9 takeaways as Jaylen Brown and the Celtics bully Warriors in Game 3 (Boston.com)

The Celtics beat the Warriors 116-100 in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, taking a 2-1 series lead as Jaylen Brown and Robert Williams played well.

“We had Nelly. We had Nelly in the building. “We’ve played in front of rude people before,” Thompson said. We had to adjust down the line.” “I’m going to have to look at it on film a little bit more,” he said. “Dropping f-bombs with children in the crowd. So that was the main key, to continue to be solid on offense and stay out of the teens, like we did in the first two games in the third quarter.” Williams forced Curry into a turnover on the next trip down, tipping away a pass attempt in the pick-and-roll. “So I picked up my foul pushing off him because he’s screaming at the bottom of the pile. The Warriors pulled Curry late in the period for a little rest, and the Celtics built back their lead. “We kept scoring,” Udoka said. Curry and Thompson can get hot, but if the Celtics don’t beat themselves, they are in a much better position. A lead that once ballooned as high as 17 dissipated entirely and the Warriors briefly took a one-point lead before Marcus Smart buried a triple to put the Celtics back in front.

Celtics bounce back again to top Warriors in Game 3 of NBA Finals ... (USA TODAY)

Boston improved to 7-0 following a loss in the 2022 playoffs, pulling away in the fourth quarter to defeat Golden State 116-100 in Game 3.

The Warriors committed eight turnovers (three by Curry, three by Jordan Poole), and Boston had four steals and two blocks in the quarter. Curry has been spectacular offensively, averaging 31.3 points in the Finals, but Boston’s stout defense has limited the rest of the Warriors through three games. With 5:06 remaining in the third quarter, Steph Curry made a 3-pointer and Boston’s Al Horford was assessed a flagrant foul-1 for not giving Curry room to land after his shot. "For us, it's just a resilient group that kind of doesn't care about the last game, put it behind us and move on to the next." The Warriors will need that kind of shooting moving forward. In Game 2, Boston scored 88 points.
