Julia Garner Offered Role of Madonna in Biopic — Report (IndieWire)

Madonna offered Julia Garner the role of playing herself in the upcoming biopic directed by the "Lucky Star" singer herself.

As for how the film is coming along, Madonna said last year, “It’s a pretty crazy experience so far, I’m just in the writing process, and just deciding which stories to tell, how much detail to go into, which characters to develop. Garner’s team is said to be reviewing the offer and is considering accepting. Garner is rumored to have endured a “grueling” audition process to beat out Florence Pugh, “Euphoria” star Alexa Demie, Odessa Young, and Emma Laird, who were also on the shortlist to portray Madonna.

Last we heard, numerous Hollywood performers — actors and musicians alike — were being considered to play Madonna in the singer’s forthcoming biopic, which is directed by the Material Girl herself.

Madonna Biopic Will (Probably) Star Julia Garner (/FILM)

Madonna's self-directed biopic has been the subject of speculation for months, specifically when it comes to casting the highly-sought lead role.

The star said she's hated scripts about herself in the past so much that she called agents and studio heads to "threaten them and say that I will stand in front of the building and protest and make everybody's life a misery if they go through with it." Aside from her popular turns on Netflix, Garner's also starred in movies like "The Assistant" and "Electrick Children," both of which include layered yet subtle performances of characters whose arcs happen quietly. It's worth noting that, according to Variety, the "Ozark" and "Inventing Anna" actress hasn't officially accepted the role yet, but the offer marks a major step forward for the film that's been in the works since 2020.
