Is the 'Berserk' manga continuing? The critically acclaimed manga was placed on hiatus following the original author Kentaro Miura's untimely death.
Fortunately for Berserk fans, that wasn't the end of the series. Kouji was a childhood friend of Kentaro and worked closely with him on the manga. Guts is one of the only remaining survivors of Griffith's quest for godhood. The series has won several awards and gained international recognition during its run. With a legacy like this, it's no wonder that fans and creators were devastated by the loss of its author. But a year after his death, plans are being set for Berserk to make an enormous comeback.
Berserk creator Kentaro Miura died in May 2021 at the young age of 54, leaving behind a legacy that inspired iconic games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
It sparked its own licensed games and anime, while also inspiring directors like Hidetaka Miyazaki who brought that bleak dark fantasy to life in his own games, pulling characters and designs right from the pages of the Manga into Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and Elden Ring. "Before his passing, Kentaro Miura spoke to his close friend Kouji Mori about the stories and episodes he had in mind for Berserk," Young Animal Editing Department's statement reads. "We were reluctant to end his story without sharing these with his fans.

We hope that everyone will continue to have the same connection with Berserk in the chapters to come. However, we will write the manga so as not to deviate from Mr. Miura’s own words. We have read as many of your comments as possible for the “Dai Berserk-ten (The Great Berserk Exhibition)”, “Young Animal Memorial Issue (Young Animal 2021 No.18)”, and “Berserk Volume 41”. We are extremely grateful for each and every one of your words and for your messages sent to us through social media. Six chapters will be released in the 13th issue of Young Animal later this month, on June 24, ending out the Fantasia Arc/Elf Island Chapter and moving on to a new arc thereafter. Our minds and hearts are still filled with the thoughts Mr. Miura shared with us during that time.

Moving forward, Young Animal will publish six chapters that will conclude the “Fantasia Arc/Elf Island Chapter,” before moving on to a new arc that will begin afterward. “I will recall the details as much as possible and tell the story. “We will resume the serialization of Berserk,” Young Animal said in a statement.

Still, I think I can almost tell the story that Miura wanted to tell.” I will only write the lines and stories that Miura described to me,” Mori concluded. “I will only write the episodes that Miura talked to me about. But that wouldn’t convey the scenes that Miura described to me, or the lines of Guts and Griffith… “‘The staff are saying they will finish the last chapter that was left behind, so can you take a look?’” You didn’t have to be a Berserk fan to mourn the untimely passing of Kentaro Miura, the creator/writer/artist responsible for one of the most popular—and bloodiest—fantasy sagas in manga.
Berserk has kept quiet since its creator Kentaro Miura passed away last year, but the franchise won't stand by the side forever.
At this time, Young Animal is expected to resume Berserk beginning this month, and it will finish up the Fantasias arc in six chapters. As a close friend to Miura, Mori spoke with the creator about his iconic series plenty, and he acted as a sounding board for Miura's vision. Earlier today, the editorial team at Young Animal confirmed plans to continue the manga using materials left behind by its creator.
Publisher Hakusensha announced the continuation will be based on conversations and notes by original series author Kentaro Miura.
I will only write the lines and stories that Miura described to me. “I will only write the episodes that Miura talked to me about. Still, I think I can almost tell the story that Miura wanted to tell.” “I have a message and promise to everyone. “Nearly 30 years ago, Miura called me and said, “I need to talk to you about drawing a rough draft.” I went to his workplace just to talk as we always do, but Miura looked more serious than usual. Berserk will continue with six chapters to conclude the current Fantasia Arc/Elf Island Chapter and then the series will begin a new arc.
'Berserk' Will Continue Under the Supervision of Kentaro Miura's Friend: Kouji Mori already knows the ending.
Having been a little over a year since the mangaka’s death, news has been released by Hakusensha, publishers of Young Animal, that the manga will continue. With a heartfelt letter to fans, the Young Animal Editorial Department apologizes for the lack of news and goes on to announce that Kentaro Miura’s friend, Kouji Mori, will be carrying the Berserk torch as he was in know on how Kentaro Miura saw the story ending, and has a great deal of material left in his possession from Miura. While Berserk will continue without the late Kentaro Miura, the team promises to maintain the quality and storyline that was discussed with Miura, and nothing more. There were early talks that indicated that fans would never know how Kentaro Miura’s Berserk would end.

Since then, Mori claims that the series has gone exactly as Miura had planned, and beyond that, he has full knowledge of what Miura had envisioned for the story to the very end. Mori recounts working on a manuscript with Miura over 30 years ago, a time in which Miura set out his vision for the story's entirety, down to the last chapter. Mori will be supervising the project, which Miura's team, Studio Gaga, seeks to continue with the basic objective of attempting to achieve what Miura had wanted for the series.
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Berserk chapter 364! Following the incredible announcement from Berserk's publisher Young Animal that the manga will resume ...
Even though Miura will tragically never be able to finish what he started, it's clear that his legacy is in the right hands, a man who will honor Miura's vision and allow people around the world to see the characters whom they have fallen in love with over the decades come back to life to continue impacting their lives outside of Berserk's pages. It would be incredible if Griffith's arrival provides Guts with the validation that he has moved on from vengeance It's not too farfetched, as the possibility that Guts would allow himself to let go of this hatred was a development fans wouldn't have thought possible. Guts and Casca have their own demons to tackle, but they are creating the remnants of a real family with the mysterious Moonlight Boy. Although it would be powerful if Guts and Casca decided to stay behind and start a family together on the elven paradise, it's unlikely since both characters are so integral to the story. Despite everything Griffith did to him and his brothers in arms, Guts was clearly moving past his hatred of Griffith. In chapter 345, Guts made a shocking confession: that he was almost free of his obsession with Griffith, having found greater purpose in protecting his new group of friends and family. Ever since chapter 263, Guts has been intent on traveling to the island of Skellig, first as a means to protect Casca while he and the rest of his comrades continued their journey against Griffith without her before evolving to a new possibility: to cure her. Griffith clearly wants those who know of his bloody past to move on and embrace him as he is now, and his appearance in chapter 364 undoubtedly was done in service of that.
