We go over how to watch Monday's game between the Texas Rangers and Cleveland Guardians and make some picks.

He threw fewer than 5 strikeouts in five of his eight starts this season and will get a matchup with a Guardians lineup that strikes out the fewest times per game. The Guardians have a slight pitching advantage in this matchup, and they have the better offense, so there’s a lot to like about their chances on Monday night. What really went wrong for the New York Rangers in Game 3 ... (Forever Blueshirts)

The New York Rangers were completely overmatched from the time Nikita Kucherov scored on the power play at the 10:50 mark in the second period on.

Meanwhile, this was a far cry from the Rangers peak effort in Game 1 and solid showing in Game 2. “It was 2-0, there was a lot of hockey game left and they were playing well tonight,” Gallant explained. “It went down to the wire and we had a chance to win late in the hockey game. That one at the start of the third, I don’t know about that one.. “Fortunately for them they scored that power play goal to make it 2-1. Tampa also took two penalties on contact plays with Shesterkin that the Rangers converted on.

Ondrej Palat scores in final minute; Lightning top Rangers in Game 3 (Edmonton Journal)

The Tampa Bay Lightning showed they aren't willing to hand over their crown without a fight.

Kreider’s 10th goal of these playoffs boosted his career total to 34, tying Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert for the franchise record. Zibanejad’s 10th goal of the postseason was his NHL-leading sixth on the power play, tying Adam Graves (1996) for the franchise record in a single postseason. “At that point you either fold up and just hope out there or you go out and do it,” Stamkos said. Stamkos’ goal was his sixth of the playoffs. New York’s Mika Zibanejad recorded a power-play goal and an assist and Chris Kreider also tallied with the man advantage. Tampa Bay capped a spirited rally from a two-goal deficit after Nikita Kucherov’s nifty backhanded feed found Palat deep in the right circle.

Texas Rangers Top 50 Prospects (FanGraphs)

This is a deep, healthy system with a calvary of young pitching on the way.

There is enough depth among the Rangers’ upper-level relief arms to withstand the natural rate of injury and failure for their bullpen prospects, making the development of the starters in that “Lower-Impact Arms” group of honorable mention prospects particularly important to the club’s stability over the next handful of years. The Rangers are starting to have good problems, like “what do we do with all these prospects?” They have one of the bigger upcoming 40-man crunch situations, with a dozen candidates for a December 2022 40-man add (Jung, Winn, White, Acuna, Harris, Ornelas, Slaten, Weems, Englert, Bradford, Kent, Wendzel) and not enough places to put all of those guys. Kindreich is a loose lefty with a good changeup who was taken in the eighth round of the 2021 draft. While the Rangers can hopefully coax more out of Jon Gray, it is him, Dane Dunning, and Glenn Otto who project to be the long-term components of a viable rotation, while others like Taylor Hearn (who still has two option years left) ideally downshift into either relief or spot start roles. Osuna has sneaky pop for his size but it’s still shy of what is typical for a big league left fielder, and it projects to stay that way. Walker has long been a FanGraphs favorite because of his bat-to-ball acumen, his powerful physique (part of what we thought would lead to more power), and his swing’s lift (which we thought would help him get to that power), but a poor approach has undercut the whole operation. MacLean, 19, still only sat about 86-87 mph in 2021 and has been shifted into a relief-only role this year, but his frame and mechanical grace are indications that he might eventually throw harder and switch on his fastball’s traits. Ahlstrom is a four-pitch lefty out of Oregon from the 2021 draft. Mateo, 20, is built like a slot receiver and has plus bat speed, but his offensive output is undermined by his lack of plate discipline. He’s not a true shortstop and lacks typical physical projection, but both he and Osuna, a 19-year-old left field-only athlete currently raking at Low-A, have a chance to get there on the strength of their hit tools. Below is an analysis of the prospects in the farm system of the Texas Rangers. Scouting reports were compiled with information provided by industry sources as well as my own observations. Del Orbe is very raw for a 20-year-old, but some of that might just be because he’s a 6-foot-3 switch-hitter who’s still growing into his body.

Under 5.5 goals (-129): Both goalies showed up in Game 3 for the first time in this series. The pregame narrative: Tampa Bay’s championship experience was on display on Sunday. The Bolts battled back after falling behind 0-2, and Ondrej Palat scored the game-winning goal with under a minute remaining. Rangers to win Period 2 (+225): New York’s 25 second-period goals during the postseason are second only to the Edmonton Oilers (27). The Rangers have won two of the three middle frames so far in this series and have done so by a combined score of 5-2. That’s noticeably lower than New York’s eight goals at even strength. It’s hard to imagine the Lightning exerting that level of domination in consecutive games, and that’s why we’re rolling with the Rangers in Game 4. The Tampa Bay Lightning struck in Game 3 with a comeback 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers and have added some intrigue to the Eastern Conference final.

Rangers come to town as Guardians start homestand (Let's Go Tribe)

The Texas Rangers, also known as the team that gifted Cleveland Emmanuel Clase, will be coming to town as the Guardians start a seven-game homestand.

- wRC+: 96 (10th in AL) - Record: 25-28 (10th in AL) Duran, on the other hand, was ranked as the Rangers’ No. 4 prospect with big-time power potential. Rookie third baseman Ezequiel Duran — acquired in the Joey Gallo trade with the Yankees — and rookie left fielder Steele Walker have a combined 11 major-league plate appearances. Getting to Clase will require Cleveland to hit the ball, something they have done inconsistently this season as a young and very streaky team. Assuming there are some closer-worthy games over the next three days, Clase will get to face his former team for the first time this season.

On June 6 in NYR history: Who's the new coach??? (Bluelinestation.com)

On June 6 in New York Rangers history, GM Glen Sather made one of his worst hires when he surprised the hockey world by hiring Bryan Trottier as coach.

He came to the Rangers from Edmonton in a deadline deal in exchange for Radek Dvorak. He’s a familiar face to Ranger fans due to his work on the NHL Network. Sundstrom went on to play seven more years for San Jose and Montreal as a defensive specialist. His return to MSG in a Detroit Red Wings uniform is one of the most memorable events in Rangers history. Niklas Sundstrom was a right winger born on this date in 1975 in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden. He was the eighth overall pick by the Rangers in the first round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. He played four seasons with New York and despite scoring 24 goals, was making a name for himself as a defensive forward when he was part of one of the worst trades of the Neil Smith era. It was all for naught as they missed the playoffs for the sixth straight year. The good news for the Rangers was Trottier lasted only 54 games.

He played in the first 12 games of the playoffs but has been a healthy scratch since Goodrow returned on May 28. "He comes back and plays. If either can't play, expect center Kevin Rooney to be reinserted. That's what he does." He came out for one more 36-second shift, but could not continue beyond that. Strome's lower-body injury came on his first shift of the second period, as he was lightly shoved from behind by Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ondrej Palat and appeared to awkwardly plant on his right leg.

Head coach Gerard Gallant sounded optimistic about the possibility that New York Rangers center Ryan Strome may not be out for too long.

Immediately he went down in pain and practically hobbled all the way back to the bench. However, he must’ve quickly walked it off and returned within a minute staying in the game. Will the Oilers avoid the sweep on Monday night? He will center Tyler Motte and Ryan Reaves, which was the case before Goodrow returned for Game 6 against the Carolina Hurricanes. He immediately reacted in pain and had difficulty skating back to the bench. The Rangers labeled it a lower-body injury.

Rangers aim to compete at higher level against Lightning in Game 4 (NHL.com)

The New York Rangers didn't come into the Eastern Conference Final naively underestimating the challenge of knocking out the two-time defending Stanley Cup ...

It's what they did to come back against the Penguins and Hurricanes. We know that third goal is going to be important kind of like in Game 2, but once they got the [tying] goal we just couldn't get ourselves going north and attacking." "With them getting the early one on the power play we couldn't switch back to playing attacking hockey like we usually do," Rangers forward Andrew Copp said. The Rangers couldn't do much of anything offensively, including when they had a power play in the third. The Rangers built a 2-0 lead midway through the second period on power-play goals from Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider, but it's only like that angered the Lightning more. We're going to have to take it from them.

Rangers blaming 'unfortunate plays' for special teams' poor results (New York Post)

The Rangers' penalty kill is just two for its last five. But coach Gerard Gallant does not see an issue with the team's play at four-on-five.

I think we gotta try and not let them get zone entry and move the puck around. “As far as the PK, yeah, we had a couple minor details I guess you could clean up for [Game 4],” K’Andre Miller said. In Sunday’s Game 3, with the Rangers holding a two-goal lead at the halfway mark, it was special teams that allowed the Lightning back into the game, as Kucherov and Steven Stamkos scored on the man-advantage to tie it. I think we let them get set up. Agree or not, it’s a new wrinkle to an Eastern Conference Final in which the Rangers came in with a seemingly clear edge on special teams. I would say it was a couple unfortunate plays for us.

The good news, however, is that Strome “should be fine to go tomorrow,” per Head Coach Gerard Gallant, and that's great news on a number of fronts. Lineup depth.

Strome has a key role to play on the man advantage and, while the Rangers converted twice on the power play in the second period, they went 0-for-3 the rest of the way and that inability to take advantage cost them. This lineup has got the job done consistently for the Rangers this postseason, and having Strome available for Game Four is huge in the sense that Gallant won’t be forced to alter the balance of his team. In what was a tough Game Three all-round for the Blueshirts on Sunday, the firm kick to the crotch came in the form of Strome leaving the game with an undisclosed lower-body injury.
