George Kambosos Vs. Devin Haney: Odds, Records, Prediction (Forbes)

Here's everything you need to know about George Kambosos vs. Devin Haney as they battle for the lightweight championship.

Here’s more info on the George Kambosos vs. So, I’ll go with Kambosos. He has the ability to hurt A-list fighters (and Haney has been buzzed in the past), and fighting in his home country of Australia is going to provide a tremendous boost for Kambosos. I’ll pick him to win by decision, somewhere in the 115-113 range. He can’t do that vs. We’re still waiting on Haney’s signature victory, but that’s something that could happen this weekend. This is basically a pick ‘em fight, and it’s only gotten tighter. Lee Selby in 2020). He’s also won his last three fights by split decision, so he’s certainly walked a tightrope lately. Haney never actually won his belt in the ring. He originally was supposed to face former No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter Vasiliy Lomachenko (who’s still No. 6 on my list), but Lomachenko backed out because of the war in his home country of Ukraine. In stepped Haney, who holds the only lightweight title Kambosos doesn’t have. I had to earn my belts, earned them the hardest way. “I take nothing away from him. I could've fought the garbageman outside if I wanted to, but I chose you. Devin Haney, including the odds, their records and a prediction on who will win.

Over 10.5 Rounds (-500) and Yes: Fight to go the distance (-400) are just too expensive. Kambosos pulled off the stunning split-decision win over Teofimo Lopez to seize the WBA Super World Light title, as well as the IBF belt, the WBO World Light title and The Ring strap. Boxing odds: Devin Haney still slight favorite against Kambosos, more (Bad Left Hook)

Devin Haney remains a slight favorite going into tonight's fight with George Kambosos Jr, even though Haney is the road fighter in Melbourne, Australia, ...

If I have to pick a a best bet — and I don’t, this is just for conversation’s sake — it would either be take the money line on Danny Roman at +425 or take a Fulton stoppage at +400. My actual pick for the fight is Fulton by decision, but those lines are enticing. Fulton is not a big puncher, but I can see a scenario where to stay in the fight, Roman expends a lot of energy and gets himself gassed out a bit, leaving him vulnerable as the fight wears on. Cordina is -110 by decision or technical decision, and a very wide +700 for a KO/TKO/DQ victory. Morrell is -650 to win by KO/TKO/DQ, and +500 to win by decision or technical decision. I’m on record picking Kambosos and Cordina to win, but the Kambosos situation may have shifted after the weigh-in, and the odds aren’t so long you get any big return, anyway. Ogawa, on the other hand, is favored to win by stoppage if he wins at all. But in less skeptical terms, let’s not forget that Cordina was considered a rising potential star by Matchroom not that long ago. This is another fight expected to go the distance. Let’s say first it would be foolish to ignore Cordina is fighting at home. This is also easily the closest line of Haney’s career to date, as he’s generally been a pretty overwhelming favorite. Fulton (20-0, 8 KO) hasn’t lost yet, but some did believe the judges were a bit generous in his November win over Brandon Figueroa Jr, which unified those two belts. He wasn’t out there ralphing in a bucket like Miguel Berchelt before weighing in to fight Oscar Valdez, and he didn’t shed every drop from his body and still fail to make weight.

Two champions square off in a fight that holds plenty of betting value.

NY, AZ, CO, CT, IA, IL, IN, MI, NJ, PA, TN, VA, WV only. NY, AZ, CO, CT, IA, IL, IN, MI, NJ, PA, TN, VA, WV only. Must be 21+. AZ, CO, IA, IL, IN, LA, MI, NJ, NY, PA, TN, VA, WV, WY only. 21+. New customers only. 21+. New customers only. Throwing a few bucks on it to end in a draw at +1600 isn’t a bad idea either. There is certainly a scenario where Haney out-boxes Kambosos for 12 rounds and earns a decision victory. Haney was expected to be without two key members in his corner. One thing to keep in mind is Kambosos is fighting in front of his home crowd in Melbourne. In what should be a razor close fight, I see value on Kambosos +280 to win on points over the more highly-regarded Haney. New customers only. Kambosos was coming off two uninspiring split-decision wins over Mickey Bey and Lee Selby before he shocked the world by upsetting Teofimo Lopez as a +600 underdog. The last few weeks have featured fights where one boxer is a large favorite.

Kambosos wildly swung and missed with a shot upstairs, his momentum causing him to fall into the ropes. A short left hook by Kambosos was immediately countered by a left hook from Haney who then moved to his right. Haney pumped his jab to start the twelfth and final round. An overhand right managed to get through for Kambosos midway through the round, followed up seconds later with a chopping right before wrapping Haney’s right hand in his left arm. Haney was first to the draw, with Kambosos responding seconds later. A right uppercut split the guard of Kambosos to begin round five of a championship fight that saw Haney brimming with confidence. Haney brushed it off and pumped a double jab before the bell and grinned in Kambosos’ face as the two went to their respective corners. Referee Hector Afu was active in a fight that barely required his presence, warning Kambosos for pushing down on the back of Haney’s head in round seven. Kambosos managed a left hook upstairs midway through the round, catching Haney but not followed up with anything to make him pay beyond that point. Kambosos wildly missed with a left hook near the end of the round as Haney fully hit his stride. The Las Vegas-based champ connected with an uppercut to the body, which Kambosos brushed off but without a sufficient response. Devin Haney can no longer be called an email champion, a titleholder or anything but the undisputed lightweight champion of the world.

Enter Haney, who was embroiled in a dispute with Kambosos and much of the boxing world over the legitimacy of his title. But when Russia invaded Ukraine, Lomachenko decided to remain in the war-torn country with his family and passed on the fight. "Since we started out, we said we wanted to be the best. When I would go to the right, I would fight his left hook. I'm going to pitch a shutout." "His timing was just a little bit shaper than my timing," Kambosos admitted. When I would go to the left, I would fight his right hand. ... This is going to make me hungrier." Anytime Kambosos (20-1, 10 KOs) closed the distance, Haney stepped back and fired a jab. He wanted to land the overhand right, and he wanted to land the big left hook. "I took the last round off just because I knew I was comfortably ahead, but I fought a good, smart fight. Indeed, it was a virtuoso defensive performance from the rising star.

After they go the distance in Melbourne, Devin Haney wins by unanimous decision. And we'll get another look at this matchup soon.

Haney becomes the tenth undisputed champion in boxing in the 4-belt era (since 1988), and the second in the lightweight division, joining Kambosos as having held that honor. Gervonta Davis bout could set up as one of the biggest fights in a long time at 135 lbs. Of course, this is assuming that the second fight plays out in a similar fashion as the first. The lightweight division is crowded and it can be argued that Kambosos lucked up when he edged out Teofimo Lopez last November to become the unified champion. Maybe things will change in the return bout, maybe they won't. Both fighters will be compensated handsomely for their time. The 23-year-old made it look easy as he tamed the rabid fans who came to see the homecoming of George Kambosos. It was an indisputable drubbing that left them silent for a majority of the 36 minutes as Kambosos head repeatedly snapped back like a Pez dispenser. None of those disadvantages mattered as Haney surgically dissected Kambosos behind a pinpoint accurate jab to cruise to a unanimous decision.
