Oilers F Kane to have hearing for hit on Avs' Kadri
EDMONTON, ALBERTA – The NHL will hold a hearing with controversial Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane, presumably today, for his cross-check from behind ...
As I said last night, I don’t think the incident was as bad as many have made it out – with the proviso that 1. I know he likes to reverse hit and I was just trying to get a bump on him, and that’s really all I did. Kane is a repeat offender and Kadri was injured and out for the rest of this series and maybe longer.
Nazem Kadri is a major reason the Colorado Avalanche are one win away from the franchise's first trip to the Stanley Cup Final in more than two decades.

The Avalanche did not reveal the specifics of his injury, but Bednar said he would be out for this series “if not longer.” “I’m the sure [the NHL] will take a look at it.” After the hit, which came just 1:04 into Game 3, Kane was given a five-minute major for boarding.

Mikko Rantanen scored the final goal in the game, making it 4-2 with a shot into an empty net at 19:30. The Habs have a bit off a rep here as the toughest interview. As a result of that, the Avs are just one win away from their first Stanley Cup final since 2001. The Colorado forward left Game 3 and didn't return with an upper-body injury.
“You’re taught from a young age that you don’t do that, especially in that distance from the boards. Kane got a five-minute major on the play for boarding, but Kadri couldn’t return. Colorado head coach Jared Bednar confirmed the news after the game, adding Kadri could be out for “longer” than just this series.

“Val is a huge part of our team and our offensive game and our checking game and helps out in all areas of the game,” Landeskog said. It comes from everybody in the room — just a little bit more. Nichushkin scored on two fortunate deflections to give Colorado the lead. The Avalanche won titles in 1996 and 2001. In Game 3, he made the big stop on McDavid to keep it tied before Compher scored. “Frankie’s quick and got over there and made a great stop on it,” Colorado forward Nathan MacKinnon said.
Valeri Nichushkin scored a pair of goals and Colorado outlasted Edmonton 4-2 to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.
In the first period alone, he broke up what looked like a golden scoring chance between Connor McDavid and Evander Kane, and he had a crucial blocked shot late in the period on a two-on-one. It was his second multi-assist game of the series, as he also had two assists in Game 1. The Avalanche needed some depth scoring to step up after Nazem Kadri was knocked out of the game after a nasty check from behind by Edmonton’s Evander Kane early in the first. Nichushkin’s second goal gave Colorado the lead early in the second, as he whipped in a shot from the slot. J.T. Compher had a brutal start to the postseason, but he’s one of the hottest players going right now. The Avs moved to 6-0 on the road in the postseason, downing the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 on Saturday in Game 3 of the Western Conference Final.

The Avs and I would have stayed another couple weeks or so had they been able to hold a 4-3 lead with 3:43 left in regulation against the Dallas Stars in Game 7 of the second round. “Lot of similarities – hotel to the rink. The whole thing was just very strange.” Otherwise: no team dinners allowed outside of any NHL-sanctioned restaurants, inside the “bubble” that comprised the J-Dub, the arena, the two or three restaurants and an outside mixed zone area that included a couple food trucks, including a beloved Tim Horton’s truck. The Avalanche would play 15 games here in total, three of which were in a round-robin seeding setup. There were videos on the JumboTron of fans from each team, cheering their teams on from thousands of miles away. The Avs stayed at the J.W. Marriott hotel, which actually is connected to Rogers Place. Players would literally walk to the arena through the connected “bridges.” Players otherwise could not be very many places other than the rink and their rooms. Despite being in the same building for games, I had to ask questions via Zoom. It was all just very weird – and remember, this was the start of everything Covid-wise, so it was all uncharted territory, for all of us. The games were played with no fans in the stands. The Avalanche, you’ll recall, played all their playoff games at Rogers Place in that weird, crazy, surreal summer of 2020, when Covid was in full effect and nobody had any vaccines yet. I was one of them. Well, a lot of it was bad, though.

Could be one guy one night, could be a different guy the next," he said. "The hit is the most dangerous play in hockey," Bednar said. "Obviously, it's a huge loss. Video review confirmed a five-minute major penalty for boarding, which the Oilers successful killed off in the first period. "I was just trying get a bump on him. Kadri was trying to control the puck in the Oilers' zone.

“We’re here to hopefully make it boring and gross and just play a good two-way game. Avs winger Mikko Rantanen had a game-high eight shots and missed the net just once. Colorado failed to capitalize in 11:27 of man-advantage time against Edmonton in Game 3 on Saturday night (officially 0-for-5). It couldn’t convert on a five-minute major to the Oilers’ Evander Kane and an ensuing minor on Darnell Nurse. The Avs had seven minutes of PP time before the Oilers had a second. Winger Gabe Landeskog and defenseman Cale Makar were the only Avs to have more than one missed shot. They were just 1-of-7 with the man-advantage in Game 2 and now 2-for-14 in the series (14.3%). The Avs need to again throw everything they can on Oilers goalie Mike Smith and continue to avoid missing the net or having shots blocked.
