Cheese products recalled in 9 states due to listeria concerns (NBC News)

A Midwestern cheese packaging company has issued a recall on 2800 pounds of product due to the possibility of listeria contamination.

It's really an uber-precautionary measure we're taking," Schnell said. The voluntary recall was launched after tests found listeria bacteria on a cutting board at the Brothers Inc. plant on May 3, according to Doug Schnell, the company's director of manufacturing and operations. The affected food came from the Brothers Inc. plant in Kansas City, Missouri, which converts huge blocks of cheese into consumer-sized portions, according to a joint statement from the company and the Food and Drug Administration.

Thousands of pounds of cheese have been pulled from shelves after potential listeria contamination caused a packaging company to issue a recall.

The cheese packaging company, Paris Brothers, Inc., of Kansas City, Missouri, issued a voluntary recall of several specific cheese products on Sunday, May 29. According to the Food and Drug Administration, the cheese products have the “potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.” The recalled cheese products were distributed to grocery stores at multiple locations in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, Nebraska, South Dakota, and a single store in Florida.

Consumers who purchased the affected products can also return the cheese for a refund and learn more here. Listeria, or listeriosis, is an infection that results from eating contaminated food. To date, no illnesses have been reported.
