Henry Cavill Returning As Superman Confirmed? (GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT)

Whether or not Henry Cavill might return to play Superman has been a big question mark for a while, and now there might finally be an answer.

The Superman films up to this point have been fairly grim, whereas Superman is usually a character that is known for a brighter and more idealistic tone. The last time we saw Henry Cavill as Superman was in 2017’s Justice League. Technically, we saw him again in 2021’s Zack Synder’s Justice League, but Cavill’s scenes had already been finished, so there was no need for him to suit up for reshoots in the director’s cut. While it was reported that J.J. Abrams was working on bringing a Black Superman to screen with writer Ta-Nehisi Coates, that script might be retooled as a return for Henry Cavill instead. The status of the J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates project would likely not affect the other Black Superman that would be coming to HBO Max. That project is being developed by Michael B. Jordan and will introduce Val-Zod, an Earth-2 character who is not the same Kryptonian as Kal-El — the Superman most are familiar with. J.J. Abrams had signed on with Warner Bros for a huge contract that would have him producing various projects for the media production giant. Apparently, the studios have been getting antsy to see some forward motion on these DC projects, which might be why they’re wanting to capitalize on a Superman script that is nearly done.

Reportedly, Zaslav wants to get a Superman movie off the ground, with Henry Cavill the focal point of any plans to create a shared universe of DC characters beyond that. According to TheWrap.com, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is reshaping the studio’s plans, with Superman a focal point for the studio. Veteran studio chief Toby Emmerich was moved on earlier this week, with Zaslav clearly pulling the strings moving forward, and according to TheWrap’s DC insider, Zaslav has instructed his team to “scratch every Superman project in development and start fresh with Cavill.”

DC Insider Recommends Woke Superman Cancellation; Back To ... (Cosmic Book News)

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has been cleaning house at WB which could include plans for the Black Superman. Matt McGloin Posted: 06/02/2022 ...

Worth a mention as part of that original plan was to do an Arkham Asylum adaptation, and now they are doing that, too. “If anything, they’ll go back to individual movies unless De Luca has some plan,” according to a DC insider. What could the new DC plan be going forward? Also as I tweeted, the DC insider recommending a return to Henry Cavill as Superman and a shared universe to be built around the actor and character is the original plan that was supposed to happen from ten years ago or more. The current Superman projects underway at WB include the J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates Black Superman as well as the Michael B. Jordan Black Superman, with the former sounding more like a replacement for Henry Cavill than Jordan's take which is said to be using the Val Zod alternate universe version of the Man of Steel for HBO Max. Echoing exactly my thoughts from a week ago, now it is claimed a DC insider is recommending the cancellation of the woke Black Superman and a return to Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel.
