It's difficult to get this out because it seems so surreal, but this is my last day as the host of 'The Mike Missanelli Show,'” Missanelli said Tuesday.

Johnson and Scordo will host the show in the interim, until a full-time replacement is named, according to sources at the station. “I’m not just a guest on your show, I’m a fan of you and your show. “But in the end, I hope the good outweighed the bad, and that people think I’ve been a positive part of this radio station’s brand.” So it’s going to be hard for me to fill that void.” What I can tell you is they already have a replacement show under contract and I’m sure you’ll be hearing about that in the next few days.” Later in the program, Missanelli told a caller he “wasn’t expecting” to announce the sudden end of his show.

He eventually moved on to WIP in 1992. “Back then, newspapers had budgets and they flew me all over the country. After he passed the bar in 1987, Missanelli was pondering his professional future when his editors asked him to cover college basketball.

Big Philly sports media news: Longtime 97.5 The Fanatic host Mike Missanelli says he's hosted his last show at the station.

In 2017, he lost a TV gig with 6ABC in Philly after criticizing female play by play announcers (specifically, Beth Mowins) and saying they sounded “unnatural.” Back in 2006, he was fired from 610 WIP after allegedly hitting a producer. After more than 12 years with 97.5 FM the Fanatic FM, Mike Missanelli has announced that today's show will be his last show.

For better or worse, he has been one of the most well-known figures in Philadelphia sports media. In his sports radio career that spans more than two decades, Mike Missanelli has been one of the most polarizing figures in Philadelphia sports radio. According to Missanelli, the station has decided to go in a different direction — though they will discuss the possibility of the longtime host remaining with the station in some role/capacity.

I’ve heard they like Hunter Brody but I have no clue if he’s in line to do a major daypart. Even if ratings slipped a little bit in the afternoon Mike was always their most well-known personality over there and was good with sponsors. He’s a veteran and has done it for so long, so if he wasn’t feeling it anymore, I can’t blame him at all. The station and I are talking about me remaining with the company in some kind of a role, but who knows. I’ll try to get the rest of it uploaded when I can, but the show doesn’t go up in podcast format until later. Nothing got out, so good job by the people over there to keep it quiet (or maybe they had zero clue what was going on).

Missanelli's situation: He signed a one-year extension last December and then a short-term one that took him into this spring, also from Crossing Broad. With the deal expiring again, there didn't seem to be an agreement on the next step, though Missanelli did acknowledge on Tuesday's broadcast that the station did leave the door open for him to stay on board in a different role. Co-host Tyrone Johnson and producer Jen Scordo will run the show in the interim and it will continue to be simulcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia for the time being, per The Inquirer's Rob Tornoe. Through tears and a cracking voice, the longtime sports radio host explained that his contract was due up in a couple of weeks and that he and the station's owners, Beasley Broadcast Group, have opted for a different direction.

I’ll try to hammer out the details and update this story. He’ll officially depart when his deal expires in a few weeks, though there is the outside chance that he may partake in some annual non-radio events. If Jen is not involved, then the new producer might do updates instead, but that seems like it hasn’t been settled yet. We’ll continue to “effort” that information, as they say in the business. For Brodes, this will complete a meteoric radio rise. NBC Sports Philadelphia is expected to continue simulcasting the program on television.
